There are a few ways, and I even sell some gadgets for that but a scale, magnet and calipers are pretty good for verification if the sample is not attracted to a magnet and the dimensions and weight match the manufacturer specifications you can be fairly certain it's real, the best bet is to buy from reputable suppliers it takes some learning and experience as well as having access to some tools to get good at metal verification
