This week i went to the cinema and i'm absolutely blown away by this movie. The Promised land (Bastarden). This historical Danish movie tells the story of a retired Army Captain during the 18th-century. His name is Ludwig von Kahlen, loyal to the Crown. The story is based on a true story and a book named "The Captain and Ann Barbara by Ida Jessen. The Captain has the plan to grow crops on the rough grounds of Jutland, the northern part of Denmark. The moorlands (heath) are "tough" land and up till than nothing grows there. The weather is cold and the people are poor. Ludvig von Kahlen has a dream, he plans to grow potatoes. He has,to find good soil, burn down the heath. By doing that, he encounters all kinds of problems, even romantic. Ludvig falls in love with the runaway peasant woman and has to deal with the cruel landlord De Schinkel. He claims he owns the ground. Nothing is going to stop him from making Ludvig's project fail, even murder. Absolutely star is the little girl Anmai Mus (Melina Hagberg), a Romani travellers orphan. She decides she is better of with Ludvig but he thinks different. Slowly he grows attached to her and they grow a strong father daughter relationship.
In my opinion a great historic drama with the fabulous actor Mads Mikkelsen. All ingredients for a good movienight are there. An absolute must see movie.
