The Story Of Avicii

Avicii memories

I personally didn't know all Avicii's songs but there are a few hits that always bring me back to a certain moment, a memory that I treasure and hold close to my heart.

One of them is "Wake me up", it's a sad memory as well as a good one but whenever I hear it, I always go back in time and see and feel how I stand in my livingroom in Holland, trying to lift the spirits of myself and my two oldest children by singing and dancing on whatever is on the TV at that moment. We didn't have many channels but Avicii's wake me up was played a lot on MTV and it was during a very hard time of change that I felt connected to this song.

The father of the two oldest kids had just left the house to stay at his new girlfriend and he would only come back to watch the kids whenever I wouldn't be there so that they could sleep in their own bed as he only rented a room somewhere. Although inside I knew it was best for me and them that he'd move on, I was still heartbroken that my family fairy tale was now shattered for real. He had done plenty to kick him out of my life in the past but he always knew that I would take him back because I felt that the kids needed us both.

The words "Wake me up when it's all over, when I'm wiser and I'm stronger, all this time I was finding myself but I didn't know I was lost" were words that kept playing in my head over and over again. Yet the tune was nice so I'd just make it a fun moment with the kids to dance in the living room (amonst other songs, of course) but I can still see and feel how I held their hands and how they'd join me while I did this to lift (mostly mine) our spirits.

Knowing what happened after, is enough to tear up writing this and moving on to the rest of the story I wanted to write.

I didn't know much about Avicii

I've never taken the time to learn more about Tim (Avicii) but I remember reading somewhere that he would stop touring as the year that he did was a very chaotic and life changing year for ourselves so it stayed in my memory. Yet I was too caught up to read about the reason at the time.

The next time I remember is that I read the news about Avicii's death and that it was suicide. I went online to look up news, although you never know if this is the truth, the words depressed came up several times. I remembering thinking how sad, such a talented guy feeling that he had no other choice then to end his life. How sad for his family and the people who enjoy his music so much. That was the end of the story for me, until Netflix announced the "I'm Tim" documentary.

I'm Tim

I was hoping to learn more about the life of Tim and maybe enjoy someo of his music. I got what I wished for and more. In the documentary his friends, his family and people he worked with shared their stories about Tim as well as never shown footage before was shared where you are taken back into that moment of where the hits were produced.

It was crystal clear to me that everyone really loved him and that everyone (I'm not kidding) thought he was a blessing to work with because he always knew exactly what he had in mind as well as knew how to project his vision onto others so that they knew how to add their part to all these productions that they made. It was inspiring to say the least.

Above you can find the trailer to the Netflix documentary. If you're a sensitive soul, like myself, be aware that some moments make you tear up and also be prepared to enjoy his music while watching. I was sad to learn more about the moment he commityed suicide, far away from everyone, in a foreign country. Although they keep the details to themselves, which is understandable, it broke my heart to learn that he was so far from his loved ones.

They also mention in the documentary that if only they were near, they could have done something, maybe this is the reason he did it the way he did. He was done, and he felt it was time. He is and will be missed, that's for sure. What a talented and inspiring guy Tim was!

Avicii - My Last Show

After the documentary ended, a pop up showed up with "Avicii - My Last Show" and while being sucked into the story already, we both wanted to watch this one as well. The last show was held at Ushuaïa Ibiza. How special to see how his last show went, even though it's also sad knowing what follows after.

If you're curious to watch this one as well, above you can find the trailer. If you like Avicii's music, and have any memory from any of his songs, I'd recommend you to watch these two Netflix productions so you know the story behind Avicii, and learn more about Tim.

Did you already watch them? Let me know in a comment what you thought about them..

I am a fan of Avicii and this was such a good documentary. It's really sad we lost great talent like him. I don't think EDM scene would be as popular as we know it today without his contribution. He's one of the people that shaped the industry and popularized it. To see him passing was a heartbreak moment for me.

What a shame isn't it? And you're 100% right, the EDM scene would have been so different, he had such a nice style and it's not without reason that people loved working with him. I think there hasn't been another artist like him so far, I'm surely going to treasure his productions!

It's amazing how music can accompany us in difficult times and connect us with our loved ones, as you did with your children. Tim's story is truly heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your experience.

It was heartbreaking indeed, what a loss for the music industry!

I had never heard of him, no surprise there. Not my usual style of music, but interesting story I just read on Wikipedia. Such a shame that he ended his life so young, fame, stress, and likely drugs didn't help out, poor guy.. Great post!

I like all kinds of music styles and Avicii has definitely been one of the people who stand out and always created something great.

Tim stopped touring because of the pressure I think, and probably hoped it would bring him relief but in the end it didn't seem to be the case, sadly. It's a shame but often people go off rails in the entertainment industry.

Thanks for stopping by !PIMP

I know little about Avicii but I'm very interested in his story so from your good review I'm sure I'll give it a look at some point.

I would definitly do so, it's a good one!

This is the first I'm hearing about the musician avicii

Although the actor Jensen Ackles also starrs in a movie that I'm watching right now.
His very good. I'm sure this is a wonder movie ✨

It's a documentary but really nice and interesting to see more of the behind the scenes. I often watch these type of documentaries, even if I Know very little about the actor/musician because they often give you another view on these people than the media normally writes..
