If you see it in a certain way when it comes to films and television, it could be said that comedy is a perfect genre, why? Because although humor is subjective, there is no other genre that requires marinating so many factors such as rhythm, direction, script and performances to make it work.
Today as part of the comedy week contest I wanted to bring you 6 of my favorite series and movies within this genre. It was not an easy task, I am passionate about humor and there were too many options to choose from.
Si lo ves de cierta forma cuando se trata de cine y televisión podría decirse que la comedia es un genero perfecto, ¿Por qué? Porque si bien el humor es subjetivo, no existe otro genero que requiera marinar tantos factores como ritmo, dirección, guion y actuaciones para funcionar.
Hoy como parte del concurso XXX quise traerles 6 de mis series y películas favoritas dentro de este genero. No fue una tarea fácil, me apasiona el humor y había demasiadas opciones por escoger.
I would like to start with the movies:

Superbad is on the surface a typical messy comedy directed by Greg Mottola, but when you review it deeply it contains a dense analysis of what is being a teenager and face the changes that comes with the coming adulthood. Michael Cera and Jonah Hill perfectly portray that friendship that we all had throughout our lives, and it's funny because it's true.
The script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg -which has something autobiographical about it- makes us empathize with their characters, with the feeling of losing a friend not because we wanted to, but because we changed and nothing feels like before. Yes, Superbad is vulgar, funny, has several incredible gags (McLovin), but also has a heart and that elevates it to another level.
Superbad - O Super Cool, como se le conoció en Latino America - es en la superficie una típica comedia gamberra dirigida por Greg Mottola, pero cuando la revisas con profundidad es un denso análisis sobre el ser adolescente y enfrentar los cambios que progresivamente van llegando al convertirse en un joven adulto. Michael Cera y Jonah Hill retratan a la perfección esa amistad que todos tuvimos a lo largo de nuestras vida, da risa porque es verdad.
El guion de Seth Rogen y Evan Goldberg -Que aparte tiene pizcas de autobiográfico- nos pone a empatizar con sus personajes, con la sensación de perder un amigo no porque quisimos, sino porque cambiamos y ya nada se siente como antes. Si, Superbad es vulgar, graciosa, tiene varios gags increibles (McLovin), pero tiene corazón y eso la eleva a otro nivel.
Hangover - if we ignore the sequels - had everything to be an instant classic. Directed by Todd Phillips - Yes, the same as The Joker - Hangover is a display of madness and irreverence. If Superbad focused on the problems of growing up, Hangover destroys the idea of maturity and seeks to regress.
It puts 3 adults with contrasting personalities out of their comfort zone, played by Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper -Which by the way, what a trio of actors- And lets us see through a small window how they solve the disaster they caused in the first place.
While no one here stole a tiger from Mike Tyson, it's easy to identify with them, with their interactions, fights, and reconciliations.
The sequels, let's not even talk about them, but the first part? amazing.
Hangover -si ignoramos las secuelas- lo tenia todo para ser un clásico instataneo. Dirigida por Todd Phillips - Si, el mismo de The Joker - Hangover es un despliegue de locura e irreverencia. Si Superbad se enfocaba en los problemas de crecer, Hangover destruye la idea de la madurez y busca hacer regresión.
¿Que pasó ayer? Como se conoció en latino américa pone a 3 adultos de personalidades contrastantes fuera de su zona de confort interpretados por Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis y Bradley Cooper -Que por cierto, que trío de actorazos- Y nos deja ver por medio de una ventanita como resuelven el desastre que causaron.
Si bien ninguno aquí le robó un tigre a Mike Tyson, es fácil sentirse identificado con ellos, con sus interacciones, sus peleas y reconciliaciones.
De las secuelas si ni hablemos, ¿Pero la primera parte? increíble.
On a slightly more experimental note I would like to mention What We Do In The Shadows, which for me is the magnum opus of Taika Waititi -who would later grab world fame by directing Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, both tremendous of course-.
Directed and starring Taika himself, WWDITS is a mockumentary that shows us the lifes of a group of vampires trying to adapt to the 21st century, full of black humor and a simple but effective story, it's like if we mixed The Office with Dracula, pure gold on an aesthetic and comedic level. Here I want to make special mention of the FX series of the same name, which tells the life of another group of vampires but preserves everything that I loved about this movie. Definitely a couple of underrated pieces of contemporary comedy.
En una nota un poco más experimental me gustaría mencionar What We Do In The Shadows, lo que para mi es la magnum opus de Taika Waititi -Quien después agarraría la fama del mundo al dirigir Thor Ragnarok y Jojo Rabbit, ambas tremendas por supuesto-.
Dirigida y protagonizada por el mismo Taika, WWDITS es un mockumentary o falso documental que nos muestra la vida de un grupo de vampiros tratando de adaptarse al siglo XXI, lleno de humor negro y una historia simple pero efectiva, es como si mezcláramos The Office con Drácula, puro oro a nivel estético y comédico. Aquí quiero hacer mención especial a la serie del mismo nombre de FX, que nos narra la vida de otro grupo de vampiros pero conserva todo lo que me encantó de esta película. Sin lugar a duda un par de piezas infravaloradas de comedia contemporánea.
When a film manages to make me feel attached to his characters (something that happens with the 3 movies that I mentioned before) I feel that it has special merit for its short duration, contrary to series that by their nature are way more extensive and allow one to grow with them over time, but, What are my favorite comedy series?
Cuando una película logra que me encariñe con sus personas (Algo que pasa con las 3 que mencioné) siento que tiene especial merito por lo corto de su duración, contrario a las series que por su naturaleza son extensas y permiten que uno crezca con ellos a lo largo del tiempo, pero, ¿Cuales son mis series de comedia favoritas?

I got to know The Office a little over a year ago and have already completed it twice, the adaptation of The Office UK is one of the funniest and most heartfelt comedies out there today. At its best it is a master-class in how to write humor and how to present it, Steve Carell As Michael Scott is probably one of the best roles that have been seen in any series of any genre, period. The whole cast is full of personality, its dynamics are brilliant and even in its worst moments - in the last two seasons the quality declines a bit - It manages to get a smiles.
The Office shows us why single-camera sitcoms are here to stay.
Conocí The Office hace poco más de un año y ya la he completado dos veces, la adaptación de The Office UK es una de las comedias más divertidas y con más corazón en la actualidad. En sus mejores momentos es una master-class de como escribir humor y como presentarlo, Steve Carell Como Michael Scott es probablemente uno de los mejores papeles que se han visto en cualquier serie de cualquier genero y punto. Todo el cast esta lleno de personalidad, sus dinamicas son brillantes e incluso en sus peores momentos - Que ojo, en las dos ultimas temporadas decae un poco - Logra sacar sonrisas.
The Office nos muestra por qué las single-camera sitcoms llegaron para quedarse.

From the hands of Dan Goor and Michael Schur (who also had to do with the office USA) B99 plays with an extremely complicated concept and comes out as a winner: A comedy about a police precint. It is always fascinating to see how with humor both banal issues and other way more delicate are addressed -when even other series in a more dramatic plan dare to face-. As with The Office, each character is iconic and they all work like gears in this great system, the one-liners (which at this point are essential for B99) give it a very own style, who would say that Andy Samberg as a policeman could give us one of the best sitcoms of recent times.
De las manos de Dan Goor y Michael Schur (que también tuvo que ver con the office USA) B99 juega con un concepto extremadamente complicado y sale triunfador: Una comedia sobre policías. Siempre es fascinante ver como con humor se abordan tanto temas banales como otros más delicados que ni siquiera otras series en plan más dramático se atreven a enfrentar. Al igual que con The Office cada personaje es iconico y todos funcionan como engranajes en este gran sistema, los one-liners (Que en este punto son esenciales para B99) le dan un estilo muy propio, quien diría que Andy Samberg de policía nos daría una de las mejores sitcoms de los últimos tiempos.

Although the comparisons are annoying and excessive, it is understandable why the internet launched itself to baptize Silicon Valley as "the better Big Bang Theory", since its first season it shares roots with geek culture -and how life is lived in the middle of that-, although Silicon Valley is not about experienced physicists but simple programming engineers.
SV is very much in line with the quality seal that HBO always offers.
Few comedies in my life have managed to mix a plot that engages with such quality jokes, endearing and absolutely realistic characters. Such a cynical vision of the world of Palo Alto that it makes us laugh as well as it hurts, it caught us for several seasons and knew how to end at the right time.
Aunque las comparaciones son odiosas y excesivas es comprensible por qué internet se lanzó a bautizar Silicon Valley como "la serie mejor The Big Bang Theory" desde su primera temporada, compartiendo raíces en la cultura geek -Y en como se vive la vida en medio de ella- aunque Silicon Valley no va de físicos experimendatísimos sino de simples ingenieros en programación, SV esta muy en linea con el sello de calidad que siempre ofrece HBO.
Pocas comedias en mi vida han logrado mezclar una trama que enganche con chistes de tanta calidad, personajes entrañables y absolutamente realistas. Una visión tan cínica del mundo de Palo Alto que da risa al igual que duele y que nos atrapó durante varias temporadas y supo terminar en el momento justo.
Each of these works of media won my heart, and although they are all really different, it is easy to see that there are a series of essential elements that they all share, it is never enough that you try to make people laugh, it is important that I care about your characters, that I feel involved in their adventures or misadventures, that i suffer with them when they have to suffer, that they feel limited, as we are limited by the fact that we are human beings.
Comedy by its nature can be approached from many angles, but always, to succeed, you must connect with us.
Cada una de estas obras se ganó mi corazón, y aunque todas son distintas es fácil notar que existen una serie de elementos esenciales que todas compartían, nunca basta con que intentes hacer reír, es importante que me importen tus personajes, que me sienta implicado en sus aventuras o desventuras, que sufra con ellos cuando les toca sufrir, que se sientan limitados, como nosotros somos limitados por el hecho de ser humanos.
La comedia por su naturaleza puede abordarse desde muchísimos ángulos, pero siempre, para triunfar, debe conectar con nosotros.
