The Uglies(movie review and my honest opinion)

in Movies & TV Shows3 months ago

It was another day to hide away from the mirror, too scared to stare at it and see her reflection.

It was part of the top picks on Netflix and it intrigued me so I decided to atleast check it out. Discovered it was a book adoption and so I decided to watch it. Ofcourse I had my doubts as usual about book adapted movies but watching the trailer of this one was not cringy or bad for my eyes. It was surprisingly creative and made me curious. I think I spent my almost two hours properly.

The Uglies is a Netflix book adaption that came into existence on the fifteenth day of September. The movie talks about the concept of being pretty as way to end conflict in the world. When everyone's pretty there would be no need to fight or room for discrimination and racism, everyone would coexist in a peaceful environment. The story starts with Tally, a fifteen years old anxious, impatient and a little bit excited to get her surgery to become pretty. She lives in the city and in this city,a compulsory surgery is performed on everyone once they turn 16 to become pretty. Tally meets a friend who introduced her to another world far different from the city and she gets to experience true freedom for the first time but she is a little doubtful and not trusting of the fact none of them got their surgeries done at 16. They had somehow escaped from the city. This world that was really strange and different compared to the one Tally was used to. It was called the Smoke and it was let by David. The leader of the city sought to destroy the smoke and resorts to desperate measure to eliminate the smoke and its supporters.

I don't know how I feel about this movie. I didn't exactly like it and I don't hate it either. It bears thematic resemblance to Divergent and Hunger games Abit. I mean there are hoverboards, a lot of hightech stuff and explosions here and there. For a book adaption,NETFLIX did a really good job. The concept of the book and movie might be cringe in a way but it was really creative,I have to give them that. Starting from the beginning to the end, I genuinely admired the creativity of the writer and it had me wondering,if the movie is this good then how about the book?

I can't wait to see how the author described what I saw in words. To say I'm pumped would be an understatement. I personally think The Uglies is a simple story, it's not a bad movie or anything but it was rushed a bit. I feel everything would have been in sync if the movie was two hours plus long. There were some scenes that required more time. I did like the end of the movie though.

Thanks for reading
