Muchos pensarán de esta película que sólo trata sobre tenis y lo competitivo y desafiante que puede ser estar al maximo nivel, o tal vez de un triángulo amoroso, donde sucede la típica historia en la que dos mejores amigos se enamoran de la misma chica, ocasionando un quiebre en esas relaciones. Más allá del sentido que cada uno le pueda encontrar, a mi me pareció un reflejo de las relaciones humanas, el hambre por alcanzar el éxito y la búsqueda insaciable por el placer, pues la vida misma en muy raras ocasiones nos permite lograr cada uno de estos apartados.
Many will think that this movie is only about tennis and how competitive and challenging it can be to be at the highest level, or maybe about a love triangle, where the typical story happens in which two best friends fall in love with the same girl, causing a break in those relationships. Beyond the sense that everyone can find, to me it seemed a reflection of human relationships, the hunger for success and the insatiable search for pleasure, because life itself rarely allows us to achieve each of these sections.
Esta historia inicia con Art, un multicampeon de los torneos más importantes de este deporte, que después de sufrir una lesión en el hombro, intenta volver a los terrenos de juego, pero más allá de que no consigue dar el nivel adecuado, se le nota también su falta de hambre, mientras que su esposa Tashi, que hace las veces de su entrenadora, intenta que la recuperé, planeando que se encuentre con su mejor amigo en un torneo de más bajo nivel, mismo que fue su ex pareja, iniciando a sí una red de manipulación, donde a los giros de los acontecimientos evidencian la toxicidad entre este triángulo amoroso.

Al iniciar la final entre Art y Patrick, empiezan a mostrarnos flashbacks de su pasado, donde vemos como eran mejores amigos, campeones de torneos juveniles en dobles y promesas del deporte, así como el nacimiento de su amor por Tashi, la tenista más prometedora y arrasadora de su generación. El ganador de ese torneo juvenil empieza a salir con el personaje interpretado por Zendaya, plasmando el deseo que existía entre ella y Patrick, lo que explicará mucho de lo sucedido en el futuro.
At the beginning of the final between Art and Patrick, they begin to show us flashbacks of their past, where we see how they were best friends, champions of youth tournaments in doubles and promises of the sport, as well as the birth of his love for Tashi, the most promising and devastating tennis player of his generation. The winner of that youth tournament starts dating the character played by Zendaya, capturing the desire that existed between her and Patrick, which will explain much of what happened in the future.
Pese a que Art se juega más que un partido, pues su matrimonio y familia depende del resultado del juego, Patrick lo destroza en el primer set, pues este oponente no sólo era su mejor amigo, sino también su rival en todos los aspectos, aquel que nunca pudo vencer. En un nuevo flashback vemos la lesión de Tashi, y como Art manipuló todos los hilos de la relación de sus amigos para que este terminará, logrando eliminar a Patrick de la ecuación, lo que eventualmente le permite quedarse con la chica.
Despite the fact that Art has more than a match at stake, as his marriage and family depend on the outcome of the game, Patrick destroys him in the first set, as this opponent was not only his best friend, but also his rival in every aspect, the one he could never beat. In a new flashback we see Tashi's injury, and how Art manipulated all the threads of his friends' relationship so that this one would end, managing to eliminate Patrick from the equation, which eventually allows him to keep the girl.
Art y Tashi no eran felices juntos, pese a tener una hija y hacer todo lo posible por mantener su familia a flote, la presencia de Patrick desestabiliza todo, pues el amor no es un sentimiento sencillo, este se alimenta de los deseos y ambiciones de los enamorados, y cuando cualquiera de estas cosas falta, es muy fácil notar el la falla en el engranaje. De vuelta a la actualidad, Art remonta el segundo set, preparándonos para un tercer set donde quedará aún mejor plasmado toda esta maraña de manipulación, y sin importar quién sea el ganador, todos terminarán perdiendo algo muy importante.
Art and Tashi were not happy together, despite having a daughter and doing everything possible to keep their family afloat, Patrick's presence destabilizes everything, because love is not a simple feeling, it feeds on the desires and ambitions of those in love, and when any of these things is missing, it is very easy to notice the fault in the gear. Back to the present day, Art picks up the second set, preparing us for a third set where this whole tangle of manipulation will be even better captured, and no matter who the winner is, everyone will end up losing something very important.
Las actuaciones también estuvieron en una línea positiva, los monólogos entre los personajes masculinos muestran bien sus personajes y expectativas en la vida, pues uno fracaso al nunca tener un motivación clara para llegar a ser el mejor, llegando casi a ser un mendigo en la actualidad, mientras que el otro consiguió casi todo lo que anhelaba, triunfando en un deporte tan competitivo como el tenis, pero se ve su falta de garra al sentirse completo y exhausto. La actuación de Zendaya fue lo más remarcable, su hambre la logró canalizar en su pareja, siendo muy exitosa, pero en la actualidad se siente aburrida y preocupada al ver como su único aparente deseo, está llegando a su final.
The performances were also in a positive line, the monologues between the male characters show well their characters and expectations in life, as one failed to never have a clear motivation to become the best, becoming almost a beggar today, while the other got almost everything he wanted, succeeding in a sport as competitive as tennis, but you can see his lack of drive to feel complete and exhausted. Zendaya's performance was the most remarkable, her hunger she managed to channel in her partner, being very successful, but at present she feels bored and worried to see how her only apparent desire, is coming to an end.
En conclusion, esta cinta no me parece una obra de arte, pero me gustó mucho como manejaron a sus personajes, además las tomas, los cuadros y los escenarios están perfectamente logrados, por lo que tengo que decir que el trabajo del director me pareció soberbio, pero donde creo que faltó más pulir el proyecto fue en el apartado del guión, pues hay varias inconsistencias y diálogos que requieren de más fuerza para complementar lo que estamos viendo, lo que me parece aún más increíble desgranando lo que logró el director.
In conclusion, this film does not seem to me a work of art, but I really liked how they handled their characters, plus the shots, paintings and scenarios are perfectly achieved, so I have to say that the director's work seemed superb, but where I think the project lacked more polish was in the section of the script, as there are several inconsistencies and dialogues that require more strength to complement what we are seeing, which seems even more incredible shelling out what the director achieved.
De verdad al ver el tráiler, saber algo de ella palicula, no me llamo la atención, pero con tu post parece más complejo de lo que m imagine.

Desde mi percepción, fue algo mejor de lo que me habia imaginado, tiene sus problemas, sobre todo en el guion, pero creo que es bastante disfrutable.
