Otra faceta o enseñanza fue como superior la decepción, pues el protagonista en uno de sus mejores momentos, sufre un accidente muy grave, donde termina muriendo uno de los espectadores del evento, lo que le lleva a plantearse retirarse y volver a su vida diaria, pero luego de superar lo sucedido, volviendo a competir en las 24 horas de Le Mans, una de las carreras más importantes y demandantes de su categoría, ganándola con un equipo a base de los pilotos de la academia de corredores.

La mayor inexactitud histórica está en esta sección, pues ademas de que Jann no perteneció a la primera camada de pilotos, pudiendo sobresalir con un terreno un poco más recorrido, el drama principal no sucedió de esta forma, quitándole un poco de peso a la parte emocional, además de que se nota que está fue una jugarreta por parte de los guionista, que buscaron transformar un suceso muy triste, temporalmente incorrecto, en la principal basa de desarrollo del protagonista.
