¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, mis días últimamente han estado bastante raros, ya inició la epoca navideña y no he visto ni la primera película referente a ésta epoca, ¿La razón? Ninguno de los estrenos me ha llamado la atención, no obstante hace unos días me fuí por un género que se aleja bastante de mí, llegué por casualidad a ésta película y acabé disfrutandola y recomendandola a quienes podía, sobre todo porque su diseño de vestuario me cautivó, así que fuera de todo pronóstico hoy hablaremos de La Cumbre Escarlata 🏚️🦋.
Hello Hello Community! ✨, My days have been quite strange lately. The Christmas season has begun, and I haven't seen a single film related to this time of year. The reason? None of the new releases have caught my attention. However, a few days ago, I ventured into a genre that is quite foreign to me. I stumbled upon this film by chance and ended up enjoying it and recommending it to everyone I could, mainly because I was captivated by the costume design. So, against all odds, today we're going to talk about Crimson Peak 🏚️🦋.
🏚️ SINOPSIS || SYNOPSIS 🦋
Edith Cushing es una joven americana que sueña con ser una gran escritora, desde niña ha creído en la existencia de fantasmas, por lo que éste ha sido un elemento recurrente en las historias que escribe. Nunca ha estado interesada en el amor, pues su mayor pasión siempre ha sido la escritura, sin embargo cuando un apuesto joven britanico llega a su ciudad, hasta ella se ve afectada por el aura enigmática y misteriosa que este desprende.
Thomas Sharpe se presenta como un soñador romántico que solo busca hacer realidad sus proyectos, a simple vista parece un perfecto caballero inglés, palabras dulces, gestos poéticos, una mirada cautivadora, pero con el aura de quien esconde un gran secreto. Cuando sus ojos se posan en Edith no hay nadie que detenga su inminente amor, ni siquiera su hermana Lucille Sharpe, es así como los tres deberán convivir como familia dentro de la retorcida casa familiar, en donde el misterio mostrará su peor cara.

Edith Cushing is a young American woman who dreams of becoming a great writer. Thomas Sharpe presents himself as a romantic dreamer who only seeks to make his projects come true. When his eyes fall on Edith, there is no one who can stop their impending love, not even her sister Lucille Sharpe. Thus, the three must live together as a family in the twisted family home, where the mystery will reveal its worst side.

🏚️ LA PERVERSIÓN SE TIÑE DE ROJO ESCARLATA || PERVERSION IS TINTED SCARLET RED 🦋
Debo arrancar esta reseña confesando que llegue a esta película por culpa de un edit de tik tok de una de las escenas finales entre Thomas y Edith, el video dejaba a la película con aires de dark romance, pero la realidad es que nadie me advirtió que era de horror, así que llegue inocentemente a esta historia para encontrarme con un primer plano de un fantasma mientras almorzaba, o sea todo bien con mi primera impresión 🤣🤣, teniendo en cuenta que yo no veo películas de este género porque después no puedo dormir.
No obstante, creo que ésta historia llego exactamente en un momento de mi vida en el que necesitaba salir de mi zona de confort, estaba en un dia muy triste, literalmente había pasado toda la tarde anterior llorando y lo menos que quería ver era una película o serie feliz, asi que quizas por eso puedo adelantar que me gusto mucho lo que vi en ésta historia, sobre todo por la estética que maneja.
I must begin this review by confessing that I came across this film because of a TikTok edit of one of the final scenes between Thomas and Edith. The video gave the film an air of dark romance, but the reality is that no one warned me that it was a horror film, so I innocently came to this story only to find myself watching a close-up of a ghost while I was having lunch. All well and good with my first impression 🤣🤣, considering that I don't watch films of this genre because I can't sleep afterwards.
However, I think this story came at exactly the right moment in my life when I needed to step out of my comfort zone. I was having a very sad day, I had literally spent the whole previous afternoon crying, and the last thing I wanted to see was a happy film or series, so maybe that's why I can say that I really liked what I saw in this story, especially because of its aesthetics.
Para empezar, creo que todos sabemos que a mí me encanta la moda y la confección, así que cuando me encuentro con trabajos cinematográficos que toman este elemento como parte de la narrativa que quieren manejar, yo soy la más feliz, y desafortunadamente eso no pasa con el género de historias que suelo consumir. De esta forma, toda la parte visual que esta película maneja me pareció sublime, si se presta la debida atención se puede notar o anticipar hacia donde van dirigidos los acontecimientos, y la forma en que los personajes se van transformando a los largo de la película.
Personalmente considero que los dos personajes que mayor trabajo de vestuario tuvieron fueron Edith y Lucille, y la conceptualización que hay detrás de los vestuarios de éstos personajes es bien interesante, más allá de que ellas representen la mariposa y la polilla, es que ellas son el foco principal del protagonismo de la película, para mí Thomas si bien es el interes romantico, yo no lo veo como el protagonista, al menos no de la forma en que estas dos mujeres toman la batuta de la historia.
To begin with, I think we all know that I love fashion and dressmaking, so when I come across films that use this element as part of the narrative they want to convey, I am delighted, and unfortunately that does not happen with the genre of stories I usually consume. In this way, I found the entire visual aspect of this film to be sublime. If you pay close attention, you can notice or anticipate where the events are headed and how the characters are transformed throughout the film.
Personally, I think the two characters that had the most elaborate costumes were Edith and Lucille, and the conceptualisation behind these characters' costumes is very interesting. Beyond the fact that they represent the butterfly and the moth, they are the main focus of the film. For me, although Thomas is the romantic interest, I do not see him as the protagonist, at least not in the way that these two women take the lead in the story.
Pero ¿por qué no lo considero el verdadero protagonista si al final se trata de un romance gótico?, por la sencilla razón de que Thomas siempre está en medio de dos mujeres, y en esta dinámica que lo acompaña desde que era un niño, una logra vencer a la otra y toma el control de la vida de él. Mientras que estas dos mujeres en específico, Edith y Lucille, son las que guían los hilos conductores de la historia, son las que se enfrentan durante toda la película, y no es casualidad que además sean los únicos dos personajes cuya entrada en la historia sea bajo una secuencia que transmite importancia.
De hecho, yo podría decir que la primera vez que Lucille sale en pantalla, con ese vestido rojo que ya te da mucha información sobre ella, es de las entradas de personajes que más me ha impactado aun siendo una secuencia bastante sencilla, y solo esa escena ya marca un antes y un después en toda la película, porque ahí entendemos que Thomas es mucho más de lo que dice ser, y que es Lucille la razón de ello.
But why don't I consider him the real protagonist if, in the end, it's a Gothic romance? For the simple reason that Thomas is always caught between two women, and in this dynamic that has accompanied him since he was a child, one manages to defeat the other and take control of his life. While these two women in particular, Edith and Lucille, are the ones who guide the story's plot lines, they are the ones who clash throughout the film, and it is no coincidence that they are also the only two characters whose entrance into the story is accompanied by a sequence that conveys importance.
In fact, I would say that the first time Lucille appears on screen, wearing that red dress that already tells you a lot about her, is one of the most striking character introductions I have ever seen, even though it is a fairly simple sequence, and that scene alone marks a turning point in the whole film, because there we understand that Thomas is much more than he claims to be, and that Lucille is the reason for this.
El romance de esta historia es bastante particular, es en todo el sentido de la palabra el epicentro de la película y lo que quiebra a todos los personajes principales, pero no solo hablo del amor romántico entre Edith y Thomas, que de una vez les digo que a mi me encanto a pesar de lo turbio que es, y que por esto mismo me gusto como acabo, no había manera en que fuese un final feliz por ningún lado. Pero hablar del romance entre estos dos personajes, nos hace tener que traer a la mesa la perversión en la relación entre los dos hermanos.
No hay que ser demasiado adivino para saber hacia dónde se dirigen estos dos, ni para entender qué clase de dinamica llevaban desde hace años, porque sí ésta es una pelicula con incesto, pero más allá de eso es una historia que retratar a la perfección el resultado del abuso y la manipulación psicológica por parte de una persona que es reconocida como autoridad, porque aunque en la película nunca se confirma como tal, yo estoy 100% segura que Lucille llegó a abusar sexualmente de Thomas cuando eran niños, no tengo pruebas pero tampoco las necesito.
The romance in this story is quite unique; it is, in every sense of the word, the epicentre of the film and what breaks all the main characters, but I'm not just talking about the romantic love between Edith and Thomas, which I must say I loved despite how murky it is, and for this very reason I liked how it ended, as there was no way it could have been a happy ending. But talking about the romance between these two characters means we have to bring up the perversion in the relationship between the two siblings.
You don't have to be a fortune teller to know where these two are headed, or to understand what kind of dynamic they've had for years, because yes, this is a film about incest, but beyond that, it's a story that perfectly portrays the result of abuse and psychological manipulation by a person who is recognised as an authority figure, because although it's never confirmed as such in the film, I am 100% sure that Lucille sexually abused Thomas when they were children. I have no proof, but I don't need it either.

Me recomendaron esta película después de ver la de Frankenstein de Guillermo del Todo. Se me hace super interesante y muy linda visualmente, también vi un par de edits que me llamaron la atención. No sé cómo no la vi antes, pero definitivamente la veré pronto. Muy buena reseña y que bueno que hayas podido disfrutar de ella a pesar de que no seas fan del género.
Justamente por ése estreno es que a mí me comenzaron a salir vídeos de ésta película, no solo edits sino también información sobre el arte conceptual detrás del vestuario, así que estoy segura que la vas a disfrutar 💖.
