Finished Stranger Things

So, we got to the end of the first half of the final season of Stranger Things, and I have to say, while it was good, I felt very lost when I first came into it.

The Demigorgans

This is one little nit pick I had about this season, and maybe it's just me, but I felt as though they were way too overpowered.

Not only can they rip there way out out of there world into the characters world at a whim, but they are also near unkillable.

During the final episode there was a battle between all of the soldiers and a bunch of Demigorgans, and regardless of how many bullets were fired at them, they barely reacted to any of it.

I found that having a bunch of them was a poor choice, because they were so over-powered, so it was kind of overkill, as far as I was concerned anyway.

Also, there was a strange effect during that battle, and I think it had something to do with all of the flashing lights but it almost gave this stop motion effect, which I've always liked. As I noticed it, I thought it would have been so cool for them to have animated the demigorgans in that way to kind of pay homage to the likes of Ray Harryhausen.

The Story

It felt a little bit slow, as if they were trying to just peak our interest for this part of the season, while holding all of the gold for the latter half which should release near the end of this month.

The story of this show is fairly complex with a lot of elements to it, and because of all of these moving parts I think the gap in between seasons was a little bit too long. For example, Aimee found a photo of us from three summers ago at a festival having fun, and she combined it with a photo of us from this month with two kids. A lot happened in the time between seasons, so I think some more effort by the show runners to catch people up would have been great, maybe a 10-30 minutes documentary/ catch up video that could have released on Netflix about a week before the show released.

There was a statement released prior to the shows release, saying that people should watch X, Y, and Z episodes from other previous seasons, to be caught up properly for what's going to happen. As far as I'm concerned that wasn't really good enough, and think they should have gone with a mini-documentary of some kind.

I'll obviously tune in to watch the end of the show in a few weeks, but I was a bit disappointed with this half of the season and really hope they come out with something amazing to wrap it up in a good way.

I would have loved to have the time to sit down and re-watch the entire thing before it released, but the way things are now, me and Aimee are lucky if we can watch a full episode of a show before crashing out in the evening.

This season felt as though by time it started to ramp up and get good it was over, which is a shame, but I am looking forward to getting back into it when the next half comes out.

Sort:

I will be watching it soon once I finish some other things. I do appreciate it when shows give you a summary of what went on previously as we will forget. I have too much that I want to watch right now and there will be more over Xmas. I may never catch up.
