As a sound engineer by profession, one of the things that strikes me most in movies and series, is all the sound work that these projects have, the soundtrack in a film, is a highly dedicated and detailed profession and should be so, because of this depends a lot, the realism in the situations presented in the production and the immersion that can cause in us.

Como ingeniero de sonido de profesión, una de las cosas que me llama más la atención en las películas y series, es todo el trabajo de sonido que estos proyectos tienen, la banda sonora en una película, es una profesión sumamente dedicada y detallista y debe ser así, ya que de esto depende mucho, el realismo en las situaciones que se presentan en la producción y la inmersión que pueda provocar en nosotros.

When an excellent sound work is accompanied by a great acting and photography work, masterpieces are born that remain through time, we can name many, and beyond what makes a good film, this can be quite subjective, we can understand that there is a way or a way to represent things correctly. Every artistic project has with it an objective and a subjective part, and sometimes it is a line that in many moments is very difficult to distinguish. Each of us as human beings have different opinions, and to express ourselves objectively about something is for me one of the most difficult things for humanity.

Cuando un excelente trabajo de sonido es acompañado de un gran trabajo de actuación y fotografía nacen obras maestras que se mantienen a través del tiempo, podemos nombrar muchas, y más allá de que lo que hace a una película buena, esto puede ser bastante subjetivo, podemos entender que existe una manera o una forma de representar las cosas correctamente. Todo proyecto artístico tiene consigo una parte objetiva y otra subjetiva, y a veces es una linea que en muchos momentos es muy difícil de distinguir. Cada uno de nosotros como seres humanos tenemos opiniones distintas, y expresarse objetivamente acerca de algo, es para mi de las cosas más difíciles para la humanidad.

I want to present my humble opinion regarding the film "sound of metal" a production that, despite having certain shortcomings, its concept and sound amazed me incredibly, along with some very good performances by the protagonists, is a film that can make you reflect and understand what it is: "the sound of silence".

Quiero presentarte mi humilde opinión en relación a la película "sound of metal" una producción que, a pesar de tener ciertas falencias su concepto y su sonido me maravillaron increíblemente, junto con unas actuaciones muy buenas de parte de los protagonistas, es una película que puede hacerte reflexionar y entender lo que es: "el sonido del silencio."

Ruben and Lou are a couple of musicians who have a quite peculiar metal band, in broad strokes it may seem like a thrash metal band, a rather noisy genre that tends to noise, but on closer inspection it has a slightly more punk concept, being able to enter into what would be the Punk-Metal.

Ruben y Lou son una pareja de músicos que tienen una banda de metal bastante peculiar, a grandes rasgos puede parecer una banda de thrash metal, un género bastante ruidoso que tiende al bullicio, pero al verla más de cerca posee un concepto un poco más punk, pudiendo entrar en lo que sería el Punk-Metal.

In one of the band's gigs Ruben (the drummer) begins to lose his hearing in the middle of the event, in desperation he seeks an immediate medical consultation only to find out that his sound function is only working at 30% of its capacity, it is here when Ruben must decide what to do with his life with his band and with Lou, going from losing everything as a musician to trying to find himself in his new reality.

En uno de los toques de la banda Ruben (el baterista) comienza a perder la audición en medio del evento, desesperado busca una consulta médica inmediata solo para saber que su función sonora trabaja nada más a un 30% de su capacidad, es aquí cuando RUBEN debe decidir que hacer con su vida con su banda y con Lou, pasando de perderlo todo como músico a tratar de encontrarse a si mismo en su nueva realidad.

The film revolves around the drama of the drummer losing his hearing, triggering little by little the loss of the most valuable things he has in his life, his job, his music, his partner, his essence, his way of being and many other things more, we can clearly see the human behavior in this situation using a fairly mature personality that tries to be optimistic despite the great adversity that is put in front of her. Watching the protagonist's development towards wellness and then seeing the decisions he makes along the way is something that can be very frustrating, but what can we say to someone who lost his whole life so suddenly? How would we feel if tomorrow all the effort we made for something or someone was worth 0, starting totally from nothing again, with all the time wasted on your dream that is now impossible. Putting yourself in those shoes is not easy. And I feel that RUBEN took it very well despite all the difficulties. It is very painful to see the development of everything and not knowing if you feel good because the character grows as a person or bad because he simply stopped fighting against the facts after trying everything he could, accept and continue, forget and forgive, let go for happiness, there are many things that I identified with in this film and even more when it touches the theme of losing his hearing, as a sound engineer would be terrible to live that, and see the strength of a musician who lives by and for the music and from one day to the other simply loses it is something I would not wish anyone in any sense. All this tragic theme towards the protagonist is mixed with the love theme with his partner (LOU).

La película gira en torno al drama del baterista perdiendo su audición, desencadenando poco a poco la perdida de las cosas más valiosas que tiene en su vida, su trabajo, su música, su pareja, su esencia, su forma de ser y muchas otras cosas más, podemos ver claramente la conducta humana en esta situación valiéndose de una personalidad bastante madura que trata de ser optimista a pesar de la gran adversidad que se pone delante de ella. Ver el desarrollo del protagonista hacia un bienestar para luego ver las decisiones que toma a lo largo del camino es algo que puede llegar a ser muy frustrante, pero que le podemos decir a alguien que perdió toda su vida tan de repente? Como nos sentiríamos si el día de mañana todo el esfuerzo que hicimos por algo o por alguien valiese 0, empezar totalmente de nada otra vez, con todo el tiempo malgastado en tu sueño que ahora es imposible. Ponerse en esos zapatos no es fácil. Y YO siento que RUBEN lo tomo muy bien a pesar de todas las dificultades. Es muy doloroso ver el desarrollo de todo y no saber si sentirte bien porque el personaje crece como persona o mal porque simplemente dejó de luchar ante los hechos luego de intentar todo lo que pudo, aceptar y seguir, olvidar y perdonar, soltar por la felicidad, son muchas cosas con las que me identifiqué en este film y más aun cuando toca el tema de perder la audición, como ingeniero de sonido sería terrible vivir eso, y ver la fuerza de un músico que vive por y para la música y de un día para el otro simplemente la pierde es algo que no le desearía a nadie en ningún sentido. Todo este tema trágico hacia el protagonista se mezcla con el tema amoroso con su pareja (LOU).

We understand that the protagonist couple lived a very difficult life, Ruben with drug issues and LOU with a very complicated family but connected to the music and things of life, both were able to connect as 2 human beings who want to be together, see the development of all this and Lou's decisions for Ruben to be better, is something very nice, not always a separation is a bad thing, maybe you just need space to be better for you and for that person, but sometimes you have the bitter pill that no matter how hard you try it is impossible, and you must understand all the causes and consequences that this entails, go ahead for you and be better for you, feelings of inferiority are something very common and when we see RUBEN feeling that he is no longer enough for LOU that he can no longer make her happy perhaps is something that many can doubt in the same way, regardless of whether it is a problem of self-esteem or not, are many things concatenated on the basis of a situation as complicated as it is, losing absolutely everything in your life.

Entendemos que la pareja protagonista vivió una vida bastante difícil, Ruben con temas de drogas y LOU con una familia muy complicada pero conectada hacia la música y por cosas de la vida, ambos pudieron conectar como 2 seres humanos que quieren estar juntos, ver el desarrollo de todo esto y de las decisiones de Lou para que Ruben este mejor, es algo muy bonito, no siempre una separación es algo malo, quizás solo necesitas espacio para ser mejor para ti y para esa persona, pero a veces tienes el trago amargo de que por más que lo intentes por más que te esfuerces es imposible, y debes entender todas las causas y consecuencias que eso conlleva, seguir adelante por ti y ser mejor para ti, los sentimientos de inferioridad son algo muy común y cuando vemos a RUBEN sentir que ya no es suficiente para LOU que ya no puede hacerla feliz quizás es algo en que muchos pueden dudar de la misma manera, indiferentemente que sea un problema de autoestima o no, son muchas cosas concatenadas a base de una situación tan complicada como lo es, perder absolutamente todo en tu vida.

Una de las cosas más importantes en una producción es la fotografía de la misma, como se arman los escenarios y estos en conjunto con todo lo demás trasmiten y amplifican las emociones de esos momentos, en la película "sound of metal", me pareció que el nivel fotográfico estuvo regular, las escenas estuvieron bien, pero generalmente no había ningún añadido extra o personalidad a las escenas (salvo muy contados casos, como por ejemplo dentro de la van en la que viajaban) la paleta de colores me pareció un poco burda con esos tonos azules-amarillos de bajo contraste que intentaban evocar la desesperanza y ansiedad del protagonista, y quizás el nuevo mundo en el que se encontraba ruben inmerso "bajo el agua" en algunos casos los colores jugaban con el sonido que sentía el baterista pero no era consecuente en toda la película, también podías estar en una escena vivida que debió haber sido tomada de una manera mas triste o melancólica a mi parecer y no fue así, los mejores momentos en el sentido fotográfico PARA MI, fueron al principio y al final, usándose en el principio unos tonos más amarillos-rojizos vividos underground, dándote esa sensación de punk, y al final, luego de la operación que sufrió el protagonista, dando como resultado una fusión quimérica entre tonalidades más reales y la paleta de bajo contraste que se estaba utilizando anteriormente.

Sin lugar a dudas lo mejor de ésta película por mucho, el trabajo que realizaron para interpretar la sensación auditiva que puede tener alguien sordo, es sumamente sublime, esa forma incomoda de no escuchar, la forma en la que se interpreta el silencio con un vacío al oído, creando una sensación de succión sonora. Con eso solo puedes pensar como el protagonista puede aguantarlo, siquiera tolerarlo y más siendo músico y perdiendo digamos su modo de vida instantáneamente al no poder escuchar correctamente.

La modalidades de escucha entre la realidad y la percepción del protagonista son increíbles, como pasa de un momento normal a la forma en que escucha RUBEN, lo cual es nada o casi nada de sonido en su persona, el tema de la música y los ambientes esta muy bien logrado y nada que decir de los efectos y foley, un trabajo totalmente de primer nivel y que a pesar de que su idea principal es el concepto del silencio, tiene mucho sonido que ofrecernos.

It is a work that deservedly won many awards including the Oscar for best sound and best editing! The sensations it offers are at another level, to take a totally unknown concept such as sound perception for someone who could only feel vibrations or minimal noises and make this totally credible and realistic, is something that requires a lot of imagination and knowledge of the subject, years of experience have paid off to make such a magnificent auditory work. A total delight for anyone interested in audio.

Es un trabajo que gano merecidamente muchos premios incluyendo el óscar a mejor sonido y mejor edición! Las sensaciones que te ofrece están a otro nivel, tomar un concepto totalmente desconocido como lo es la percepción sonora para alguien que solo podría sentir vibraciones o ruidos mínimos y hacer que esto sea totalmente creíble y realista, es algo que requiere mucha imaginación y conocimiento de la materia, años de experiencia han dado sus frutos para realizar tan magnífica obra auditiva. Un deleite total para cualquier persona interesada en el audio.

Without objection, the ones who stole the show with their performances were none other than RIZ AHMED (RUBEN) and PAUL RICI (JOE) performing very deep discussions and words at certain moments, RIZ had a great level being the main character and showing how Ruben's emotions and desperation were expressed at an epic level, while JOE (RICI) was the one who appeared and said what he had to say at that specific moment, without a doubt they were the performances that captivated me the most in the movie.

Sin objeción, los que se robaron la atención con sus actuaciones no fueron más que RIZ AHMED (RUBEN) y PAUL RICI (JOE) interpretando discusiones y palabras muy profundas en ciertos momentos, RIZ tuvo un gran nivel siendo el protagonista y demostrando como se expresaban las emociones y desesperación de Rubén a un nivel épico, mientras que JOE (RICI) era de los que aparecía y decía lo se tenía que decir en ese momento específico, sin duda fueron las actuaciones que más me cautivaron en la película.

"Sound of metal" proved to be one of the best films, having the best sound produced this year, however for me, in the aesthetic part left much to be desired, I feel it lacked a little cohesion in that sense to accompany and highlight the wonderful performances of the protagonists and the moments that aroused in the production, even so it is one of the films that I have most identified at the level of concept and sound level, certainly a jewel in those senses, which is worth seeing, and reflect on its message of life and calm, peace and moving forward. However extremely difficult it may be.

"Sound of metal" demostró ser una de las mejores películas, teniendo el mejor sonido producido este año, sin embargo para mi, en la parte estética dejo mucho que desear, siento que faltó un poco de cohesión en ese sentido para acompañar y resaltar las maravillosas actuaciones de los protagonistas y de los momentos que suscitaban en la producción, aun así es de las películas que mas me he identificado a nivel de concepto y a nivel sonoro, sin duda alguna una joya en esos sentidos, que merece la pena ver, y reflexionar de su mensaje de la vida y la calma, la paz y el seguir adelante. Por muy extremadamente difícil que sea.
