Recently, I have been obsessed with movies that portrays the doctrine and Style of the Catholic Church. As a Catholic, I intend to use such movies to grow my faith and also see the workings and the entirety of the church. Some of such movies include :The Pope's Exorcist, the Conclave, cabrini, father Stu and so on. While the Pope's Exorcist movie is all about the casting out of demon using the Holy Bible and some psychological experience which is done by a professional in the field. The conclave is about the entire process involved in the selection of a new Pope in Rome which involves the secrecy and transparency in the voting process.
Cabrini is a movie that caught my attention while sourcing for movies that reflect Catholic doctrines or the lives of the Saints. The movie is a biographical representation of Saint cabrini in the Catholic church, who later became the first American woman to be canonized. A brief summary of the movie is about a lady called mother Frances Cabrini, who was an Italian immigrant to America, she was a determined woman who felt destined to help the poor no matter what. It is worthy to note that in the 19th century in America the Italian immigrants where treated with disdain and were made to live in abject poverty, discrimination and exploitation from the Citizens of America. In this movie set in the 19th and 20th century they described that the lives of the rat in this country were better than the lives of the Italian immigrants.
Why this movie inspires me is because it was not an easy feat for the nun Mother Cabrini and the other sisters to travel down and begin the mission to alleviate poverty because they needed help and funding which was not forth coming by financially. She was a strong and courageous woman that fought in the face of adversity as she did not allow the cardinal and The Popes judgment to sway her from carrying out the mission. Even at some point, when she was given the permission to go to New York City the Archbishop saw it as a death sentence and a mission that is impossible.
Mother Cabrini faced a variety of challenges that could make an individual question they are faith and purpose in life some of which includes: the numerous threats she faced, the series of rejection she got before facing her fears, the discrimination amongst the people by not offering her loans and selling buildings to her to carry out a mission and so on. Her courage and resilience inspires me because even in our contemporary world women are still relegated to the background and believed that there is nothing they can achieved in the patriarchal world. Obviously the narrative is changing women are becoming outspoken courageous and Fearless even in the face of adversity.
In the movie, one of Cabrini's motto was the biblical passage in Phillipines that states that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,". She obviously believed in her faith and the fight against injustice. This is inspiring as a teaches ladies both young and old that they can achieve whatever they set their mind to all it takes is to be courageous believe in your fight and also be kind.
In conclusion, the movie Cabrini inspires me personally to be kind to the people around me that cannot afford to live a healthy life. We should learn the Helping Hand when we can be it financially morally or emotionally. In all, let try to inspire positive changes wherever we find ourselves.
