Westworld is a big bet from HBO to fill the void left by Game of Thrones. Ambitious from the beginning, with a good cast and a story created under the masterful brushstrokes of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, this television series paints the battle between two opposing worlds. On the one hand, that of robots, and on the other, that of man. Westworld investigates the search for humanity through the most precious treasure: free will, however, finding that treasure is not easy, especially when you must face your creator to get it.

Ambiciosa desde sus inicios, con un buen reparto y una historia creada bajo la pincelada maestra de Jonathan Nolan y Lisa Joy, esta serie de televisión pinta la batalla entre dos mundos opuestos. Por un lado, el de los robots, y por el otro, el del hombre. Westworld indaga en la búsqueda de la humanidad a través del tesoro más preciado: el libre albedrío, sin embargo, hallar ese tesoro no es nada fácil, y menos cuando debes enfrentarte a tu creador para conseguirlo.

We are in a futuristic reality, more precisely in a theme park where the guests are not dinosaurs, they are humanoid robots that bear a great resemblance to any human. Welcome to Westworld, a place where you can be anything you want, from a great old west assassin to a bounty hunter. The only rule here is to have fun in the Wild West and enjoy the pleasures offered by the hosts, those androids that you can kill, beat, and enjoy in a thousand possible ways. Everything is safe, they will not hurt you... or will they?

Estamos en una realidad futurista, más precisamente en un parque temático donde los huéspedes no son dinosaurios, son robots humanoides que guardan una gran semejanza con un humano cualquiera. Bienvenidos a Westworld, un lugar donde tú puedes ser lo que quieras, desde un gran asesino del viejo oeste hasta un caza recompensas. Aquí, la única regla es divertirse en el oeste salvaje y disfrutar de los placeres que ofrecen los anfitriones, esos androides a los que puedes matar, golpear, y gozar de mil maneras posibles. Westworld blends the futuristic contrast with the past of the American West. Duels to the death, brothels in plain sight, visceral brawls and violent drunks, all unified under adventure, action, suspense and drama. This series is not your typical machine rebellion where humanity must be preserved at all costs. Westworld is more than that, it is more than an amusement park, because that place is magical, unique and surprising, yet it is full of real enemies. A plague has infested it, a virus that must be eradicated for the survival of a species without errors or defects.

Westworld mezcla el contraste futurista con el pasado del oeste norteamericano. Duelos a muerte, burdeles a simple vista, riñas viscerales y borrachos violentos, todo unificado bajo la aventura, la acción, el suspenso y el drama. Esta serie no es la típica rebelión de las máquinas donde la humanidad debe preservarse a toda costa. Westworld es más que eso, es más que un parque de diversiones, porque ese lugar es mágico, único y sorprendente, sin embargo está repleto de enemigos de carne y hueso. Una plaga lo ha infestado, un virus que debe ser erradicado para la sobrevivencia de una especie sin errores ni defectos.

The story rambles in different points of view, on the one hand the creators, those human gods who have managed to create a sample close to life, and on the other the robots, also called hosts, made to give life to the entire old west. We don't know who in whom, because the similarities are so great that you can mistake a host for the best of your friends. The argument is solid and also brilliant.

La historia divaga en diversos puntos de vista, por un lado los creadores, esos dioses humanos que han conseguido crear una muestra cercana a la vida, y por el otro los robots, también llamados anfitriones, confeccionados para darle vida a todo el viejo oeste. No sabemos quién en quien, porque las similitudes son tan grandes que puedes confundir a un anfitrión con el mejor de tus amigos. El argumento es sólido y además, brillante.

Mainly we have Dolores, a girl whose name fits well with her destiny. She is an innocent little rancher who likes to herd cattle and do housework. As evening falls, she visits her hers in love with her Teddy for her, a tough cowboy who has traveled from remote corners to promise her that they will go beyond that plain lost in time to embrace something other than cattle. She is blonde and always smiling under the little blue dress. But something hidden, a secret that she herself does not imagine... Don't they say that the most innocent are the most ruthless? My favorite phrase: <<some people choose to see the ugliness of this world, the disorder, I choose to see the beauty.>>

Principalmente tenemos a Dolores, una chica cuyo nombre encaja bien con su destino. Ella es una inocente rancherita a la que le gusta arrear el ganado y hacer los quehaceres del hogar. Al caer la tarde, la visita su enamorado Teddy, un vaquero recio que ha viajado desde rincones remotos para prometerle que irán más allá de esa llanura perdida en el tiempo para abrazar algo distinto al ganado. Maeve is a brothel matron. She has to deal with drunken, violent cowboys, and the odd customer. Her life, if she is, seems to be normal, but who is that girl? What are all those memories? She never had a family, so why does she dream of that cabin and that tangled-haired little girl? She soon discovers that she really is a lie. My favorite phrase: <<Dreams mean everything. They are the stories that we tell ourselves of what could be, of who we could be.>>

Maeve es una matrona de un burdel. Debe lidiar con borrachos y violentos vaqueros, y con uno que otro cliente. Su vida, si es que lo es, parece ser normal, pero ¿Quién es esa niña? ¿Qué son todos esos recuerdos? The Gentleman in the Black suit hangs out like no other guest. He walks all over the park looking for the labyrinth, that game that one of the founders of Westworld left to decipher it. It is something detestable, macabre and does not show mercy. His adventure leads him to search for answers, unaware that he is actually digging his own grave. My favorite phrase: <<when you are suffering, is when you are most real.>>

El caballero de traje negro anda por ahí no como cualquier huésped. Anda por todo el parque buscando el laberinto, ese juego que uno de los fundadores de Westworld dejó para descifrarlo. Es algo detestable, macabro y no guarda clemencia. Su aventura lo lleva a buscar respuestas, sin saber que realmente está cavando su propia tumba. Dr Robert Ford, also known as one of the founders of the park and creator of the hosts, is a very philosophical old man who appears to know everything, and perhaps he does. Played by Antoni Hopkins, this character is one of my favorites because he always has a beam up his sleeve. Plus, he controls everything with a single blink. Isn't that wonderful? My favorite phrase: You can't play God without knowing the devil

Dr Robert Ford, también conocido como uno de los fundadores del parque y creador de los anfitriones, es un anciano muy filosófico que aparenta saberlo todo, y tal vez así sea. Finally we have Bernard, a somewhat reserved man who wears glasses to mislead the world. He is always out there with Ford, deciphering some errors that threaten to end the stability of the park. Too bad he also carries a burden with him, a weight that will make him discover unimaginable things.

Finalmente tenemos a Bernard, un hombre algo reservado que usas unos lentes para despistar al mundo. Él siempre anda por ahí con Ford, descifrando algunos errores que amenazan con acabar con la estabilidad del parque. Lástima que él también lleva una carga consigo, un peso que lo hará descubrir cosas inimaginables.

The first season is that jump to the main conflict. It has 10 somewhat slow chapters at the beginning, but little by little the story gains strength and everything makes sense. We discover the depth of the characters, their needs and their backgrounds. There's a bit of mystery, suspense, and action, and lots of cowboys and violent duels without going overboard, which I particularly like. The season finale leaves you with your hands on your head, because the momentous event changes the plot completely.

La primera temporada es ese salto al conflicto principal. Tiene 10 capítulos algo lentos al principio, pero poco a poco la historia cobra fuerza y todo toma sentido. Descubrimos la profundidad de los personajes, sus necesidades y sus trasfondos. Hay un poco de misterio, suspenso y acción, y muchos vaqueros y duelos violentos sin pasar a la exageración, algo que particularmente me gusta. El final de temporada te deja con las manos en la cabeza, porque el evento trascendental cambia el argumento completamente.

In the second season there is more action than in the first, and the axis of the story is based on a single point: the escape. Everything has changed, for the good of some and for the bad of others, and that unbalanced game is balanced on only one side of the scale. Again the plot is somewhat difficult to predict, and the settings come to life to show us beautiful and contrasting landscapes. This second part is the pinnacle of history.

En la segunda temporada hay más acción que en la primera, y el eje de la historia se basa en un solo punto: el escape. Todo ha cambiado, para bien de unos y para mal de otros, y ese juego desbalanceado se equilibra a un solo lado de la balanza. Nuevamente el argumento es algo difícil de predecir, y los escenarios cobran vida para mostrarnos paisajes hermosos y contrapuestos. Esta segunda parte es la cúspide de la historia.

Finally we have the third season, where new characters are incorporated and we see how some of the old characters fight each other. Artificial intelligence is even more abundant, and the ultimate battle finally seems to come to life. Unlike the other two, this season is set on a stage beyond Westworld, but, to the surprise of the viewer, we find a reality very similar to that of the theme park.

Por último tenemos la tercera temporada, donde se incorporan personajes nuevos y vemos cómo algunos de los antiguos personajes se pelean entre sí. La inteligencia artificial es más abundante aún, y la batalla definitiva al fin parece cobrar vida. A diferencia de las otras dos, está temporada se ubica en un escenario más allá de Westworld, pero, para sorpresa del espectador, nos encontramos con una realidad muy parecida a la del parque temático.

This TV series has everything to win your heart: well-armed characters, an original and wonderful story inspired by the Old West, a mystery that will force you to ask yourself a lot of questions and a well-armed action and not at all cloying. Westworld is a unique drama series in its proposal, and that comes to change the evil concept of the androids that they only wish to exterminate for the recurring destruction of humanity. Here the human is not destroyed, it is preserved, only in a different framework.

Esta serie de televisión tiene todo para ganarse tu corazón: personajes bien armados, una historia original y maravillosa inspirada en el viejo oeste, un misterio que te obligará a hacerte muchas preguntas y una acción bien armada y nada empalagosa. Westworld es una serie de drama única en su propuesta, y que llega para cambiar el concepto malvado de los androides que solo desean exterminar para la destrucción recurrente de la humanidad. Aquí lo humano no se destruye, se preserva, solo que en un armazón diferente.
