Love, Death and Robots Vol. 3: Mejor que la segunda temporada, pero inferior que la primera / Better than the second season, but inferior to the first season

Volvió la serie de animación y antología por excelencia: love, Death and Robots, que trajo consigo 9 excelentes capítulos en lo que respecta a la animación, desde la tradicional, CGI e incluso Stop Motion, y aunque esta temporada en lo personal la considero mucho mejor que la 2da sin ningún tipo de dudas, la primera temporada, aún sigue siendo la mejor de todas, además de tener una mayor cantidad de capítulos, es la temporada que contiene los capítulos más icónicos de esta serie, pero en términos generales, Love, Death and Robots es una maravilla de la animación y en cómo se pueden contar historias interesantes y atrapantes en poco tiempo, teniendo algunos de estos capítulos historias tan buenas que te quedas con ganas ver un poco más. A pesar de esta serie está llena de capítulos auto-conclusivos en esta temporada optaron por continuar en un capitulo la historia de los 3 robots que vimos en la primera temporada, siendo esta historia (hasta la fecha) la única que ha tenido continuación (hasta donde sé). Hablare un poco de cada capítulo, cuales me gustaron más y un poco sobre su historia:

Los tres robots: Estrategia de salida/ Three Robots: Exit Strategies

Desde que se vio en el tráiler que se vio en tráiler que la historia de estos 3 robots con personalidades muy distintas entre sí y en diseño volvería, sabía que sería en primer capítulo de esta temporada. En este capítulo continuo la historia de estos 3 robots en un planeta tierra desolado y destruido, es decir, un mundo post-apocalíptico. Estos 3 amigos están buscando, además de ver si aún hay vida en el planeta, también buscan revolver que fue lo que les paso a los humanos y que los llevo a ese final tan trágico y violento, pero siempre desde el ámbito humorístico a pesar de que vemos cadáveres en todo lugar. La aventura de estos 3 robots, al igual que en la primera temporada es bastante divertida, cada uno de ellos, debido a sus personalidades muy distintas entre sí, aportan bastante humor durante todo el capítulo, pudiendo obtener casi al final una respuesta ante si los seres humanos pudieron huir del planeta tierra, de esta manera conquistando el planeta Marte, pero el resultado final, a pesar de que si se pudo colonizar a Marte, no es el resultado esperado.

Mal Viaje/ Bad Travelling

Este sin dudas es mi capitulo favorito, en él nos cuentan la historia de una embarcación que está siendo azotada por un crustáceo enorme el cual está matando a la tripulación, es por ello que entre todos los integrantes deciden por que una persona deba ir a enfrentarse a ese ser tan grotesco y mortal. El capitán del navío es el elegido para enfrentarlo pero para sorpresa de él, mediante el uso de un cadáver, este crustáceo gigante es capaz de comunicarse, y logra hacer un trato con el capitán, para que sea llevado a una isla, donde el crustáceo gigante pueda devorar y así satisfacer su hambre y el hambre de sus pequeños hijos con todas los habitantes de la isla. En un principio se nos da a entender que el capitán va a hacer eso para poder salvar tanto su vida, como las vidas de sus compañeros, sin embargo, el plan del capitán no es ese y durante este capítulo, vamos a ver una serie de traiciones, venganzas y tensiones entre el grupo de navegantes, ya que ninguno quiere morir a manos a este ser y prefieren traicionar a un montón de habitantes de una isla, a excepción del capitán que si quiere hacer lo correcto y matar a la criatura. Un capitulo excepcional, con una animación increíble, que sabe llevar la historia bastante bien, con mucha tensión e incluso terror porque cualquier cosa puede pasar en ese barco y nadie realmente está a salvo.

El mismo pulso de la maquina/ The very pulse of the machine

Para mí, este fue el capítulo más confuso, realmente no entendí muy bien lo que quiso representa esta capitulo a nivel simbólico. Pero en él, nos cuentan la historia de 2 astronautas exploradores que se encuentran en una de las lunas de un planeta de que no recuerdo el nombre, pero de un momento a otro algo sucede en esta luna y una de las astronautas muere, teniendo que cargar la otra con el peso de su cuerpo hasta un lugar seguro ya que se está quedando sin oxígeno y el vehículo donde viajaban fue destruido. Con el pasar del tiempo, la astronauta que sobrevivido empieza a escuchar voces desde el cuerpo de su compañera, por lo que piensa que se está volviendo loca, sin embargo, estas voces provienen de la propia luna que realmente es una maquina con conciencia propia, que ínsita a la astronauta a unirse a ella a nivel mental o algo así, ya que no tiene posibilidades de sobrevivir. Y realmente no entendí muy bien este capítulo, pero al menos a nivel artístico es bastante bonito y con una animación que me hizo recordar a la serie Archer.

La noche de los mini-muertos/ Night of the mini death

Creo que este es uno de los capítulos más cómicos de esta temporada. Parodiando a películas como “28 Days Later”, “Day of the death”, “Land of the living Dead” entre otras. Ya que simplemente es una historia, representada usando la técnica Stop Motion (O eso es lo que creo), con maquetas y pequeños muñecos, la propagación de zombis en una ciudad y posteriormente el mundo entero, hasta su inevitable destrucción total por medio de armas nucleares. Como ya mencione, un capitulo bastante gracioso debido a la forma en cómo van sucediendo todos los acontecimientos y como son representados.

Equipo Mortal/ Kill Team Kill

Este capítulo, con una animación un poco más tradicional es, después del de los zombis es el más gracioso a mi parecer. En esta historia nos cuentan como un grupo de militares o mercenarios, no lo tengo del todo claro, son enviados a reunirse con el resto de su equipo, sin embargo al llegar al punto de reunión se percatan que todo el equipo restante ha sido aniquilado de la forma más violenta posible, y al llegar a dicho lugar rápidamente descubren que quien los aniquilo es Oso-Cyborg bastante letal y casi indestructible, el cual fue creado por la CIA como un producto de defensa. La forma en como maneja el humor este capítulo a pesar de todo el desmembramiento y muerte que hay en él, es bastante buena. Es un capitulo bastante gráfico, pero de los más divertidos ya que está lleno de acción casi de principio a fin. Es de mis favoritos.

Enjambre/ Swarm

Sin dudas este es el capítulo que más me dejo con ganas de saber más, es el más intrigante de todos por la forma en como termine y en cómo te presentan el argumento y los eventos que podrían suceder luego de ese final. Esta historia nos cuenta que, muy lejos en el futuro, no se sabe exactamente cuánto, los humanos ya nos capaces de hacer viajes interestelares, de esta forma pudiendo interactuar con otros seres del espacio, e incluso comerciar. El protagonista de esta historia se encuentra con otra humana, una doctora que se encuentra estudiando al “Enjambre”, al cual es un grupo de seres, parecidos a insectos que trabajan muy parecido a las hormigas, teniendo incluso una “Reina”, el plan del protagonista el obtener crías de estas criaturas para llevarlas al planeta Tierra, y mediante el trabajo obrero que realicen estos seres, poder generar energía casi ilimitada, pero las cosas no van a suceder como el desea. El final de este capítulo te deja con ganas demás, muy interesante y visualmente espectacular.

Ratas de Mason/ Mason´s Rats

Otro de esos capítulos donde fue eje principal es la comedia, este capítulo se centra en la granja de un hombre de la tercera edad que descubre que tiene una invasión de ratas en su granero, sin embargo, estas ratas no son normales, ya que estas han evolucionado a tal punto que son capaces de crear sus propias armas para defenderse, ante tal situación el viejo contrata a una empresa encargada de la eliminación de alimañas y compra una máquina que en principio es especial para eliminar ratas, pero rápidamente esta arma y tecnología es superada por las ratas, por lo que el viejo tiene que comprar algo más fuerte y letal. Y sin más esta es la historia de este capítulo, con mucho humor y muerte de ratas. Algo que me pareció bastante curioso de este capítulo es que cuando el viejo ve toda la destrucción y muerte que ha causado esta máquina de eliminación de ratas menciona que “Esto parece una 4ta guerra mundial”, por lo que da a entender que en ese universo ya sucedió la 3era guerra mundial.

En salas abovedadas sepultadas/ In Vaulted Halls Entombed

Este capítulo es uno de mis favoritos de esta temporada, pero también es uno de los que más ganas tenia de ver un poco más. Empieza con un grupo de soldados siguiendo a unas personajes del Medio Oriente que han secuestrado a unas personas, estos se adentran en una cueva y son seguidos por los miliares, sin embargo, al entrar a esta cueva, ven que hay varios cadáveres que por su apariencia parecen que han sido consumidos hasta los huesos dejando solo un poco de carne en ellos. Rápidamente, los soldados descubren que causo estas muertes y resulta que son unas especies de arañas metálicas o algo así, pero lo más llamativo de estos insectos además de su gran cantidad y agresividad, es que tienen un rostro humano en ellas, y desde este punto pude percibir que este capítulo está altamente inspirado en Lovecraft y en su relatos, y esto es algo que se confirma en su totalidad ya que casi al final del capítulo aparece el mismísimo Cthulhu. Un capitulo bastante bueno, que sabe llevar el suspenso, aunque los rostros de los personajes se ven un poco raros, es clásico “Valle Inquietante”, que tanto se puede ver en videojuegos, robots y productos CGI.

Jíbaro/ Jibaro

Este capítulo es el más raro de todos, porque básicamente creo que no entendí nada de lo que vi, en este capítulo no hay ni un dialogo, pero si muchas imágenes raras en algunas ocasiones y situaciones que parecen una obra teatral. La historia empieza con unos soldados que parecen de la Edad Media, los cuales se encuentran caminando en un bosque, pero uno de estos soldados va a hacia un lago que se encuentra cerca de ahí y encuentra una pieza de oro, de repente los otros soldados y personas que se encuentran en el grupo son atraídos por un grito de una mujer que está cubierta por completo de oro y joyas, cada uno de los soldados va hacia la mujer y poco a poco van muriendo producto de sus propias armas o porque se van ahogando poco a poco en el lago. Es una situación bastante rara, todo es muy fantástico y mágico, un poco tenebroso, pero llamativo, pero también la forma en cómo se mueven estos personajes es muy teatral y exagerada. Los soldados parecen que están metidos en un hechizo por culpa de esta “bruja” cubierta de oro y joyas, realmente es un capitulo bastante raro.

Although this series is full of self-conclusive chapters in this season they chose to continue in one chapter the story of the 3 robots that we saw in the first season, being this story (to date) the only one that has had continuation (as far as I know). I will talk a little about each chapter, which ones I liked the most and a little about their story:

Three Robots: Exit Strategies

Since it was seen in the trailer that the story of these 3 robots with very different personalities and design would return, I knew it would be in the first chapter of this season. In this chapter continued the story of these 3 robots in a desolate and destroyed planet earth, ie a post-apocalyptic world. These 3 friends are looking for, in addition to see if there is still life on the planet, they also seek to find out what happened to the humans and what led them to such a tragic and violent end, but always from a humorous point of view, even though we see corpses everywhere. The adventure of these 3 robots, as in the first season is quite funny, each one of them, due to their very different personalities, bring a lot of humor throughout the chapter, being able to get almost at the end an answer to whether humans could flee the planet Earth, thus conquering the planet Mars, but the end result, although they could colonize Mars, is not the expected result.

Bad Travelling

This is undoubtedly my favorite chapter, in it we are told the story of a ship that is being whipped by a huge crustacean which is killing the crew, which is why among all the members decide that one person should go to face this grotesque and deadly being. The captain of the ship is the one chosen to face it, but to his surprise, through the use of a corpse, this giant crustacean is able to communicate, and manages to make a deal with the captain, to be taken to an island, where the giant crustacean can devour and thus satisfy its hunger and the hunger of its small children with all the inhabitants of the island. At first we are given to understand that the captain is going to do that in order to save both his life and the lives of his companions, however, the captain's plan is not that and during this chapter, we will see a series of betrayals, revenge and tensions among the group of sailors, since none wants to die at the hands of this being and prefer to betray a lot of inhabitants of an island, except for the captain who wants to do the right thing and kill the creature. An exceptional chapter, with an incredible animation, that knows how to carry the story quite well, with a lot of tension and even terror because anything can happen on that ship and no one is really safe.

The very pulse of the machine

For me, this was the most confusing chapter, I really didn't understand very well what this chapter represented at a symbolic level. But in it, we are told the story of 2 explorer astronauts who are on one of the moons of a planet that I do not remember the name, but from one moment to another something happens on this moon and one of the astronauts dies, having to carry the other with the weight of his body to a safe place because it is running out of oxygen and the vehicle where they were traveling was destroyed. As time goes by, the surviving astronaut begins to hear voices from the body of her companion, so she thinks she is going crazy, however, these voices come from the moon itself which is really a machine with its own consciousness, which urges the astronaut to join her on a mental level or something like that, since she has no chance of surviving. And I didn't really understand this chapter very well, but at least on an artistic level it's quite nice and with an animation that reminded me of the Archer series.

Night of the mini death

I think this is one of the funniest chapters of this season. Parodying movies like "28 Days Later", "Day of the death", "Land of the living Dead" among others. Since it is simply a story, represented using the Stop Motion technique (or so I think), with models and small dolls, the spread of zombies in a city and later the whole world, until its inevitable total destruction by nuclear weapons. As I already mentioned, a very funny chapter due to the way all the events happen and how they are represented.

Kill Team Kill

This chapter, with a more traditional animation, is, after the zombies, the funniest in my opinion. In this story we are told how a group of military or mercenaries, I'm not entirely clear, are sent to meet with the rest of his team, however upon arriving at the meeting point they realize that all the remaining team has been annihilated in the most violent way possible, and upon arriving at that place they quickly discover that who annihilated them is Bear-Cyborg quite lethal and almost indestructible, which was created by the CIA as a defense product. The way this chapter handles humor despite all the dismemberment and death in it is quite good. It's a pretty graphic chapter, but one of the funniest since it's full of action almost from beginning to end. It's one of my favorites.

Swarm

Undoubtedly this is the chapter that left me wanting to know more, it is the most intriguing of all because of the way it ends and how they present the plot and the events that could happen after the end. This story tells us that, far in the future, it is not known exactly how far, humans are already able to make interstellar travel, thus being able to interact with other space beings, and even trade. The protagonist of this story meets another human, a doctor who is studying the "Swarm", which is a group of beings, similar to insects that work very similar to ants, even having a "Queen", the protagonist's plan is to obtain offspring of these creatures to take them to planet Earth, and through the work done by these beings, to generate almost unlimited energy, but things are not going to happen as he wishes. The end of this chapter leaves you wanting more, very interesting and visually spectacular.

Mason´s Rats

Another of those chapters where the main axis is comedy, this chapter focuses on the farm of an elderly man who discovers that he has an invasion of rats in his barn, however, these rats are not normal, as these have evolved to such an extent that they are able to create their own weapons to defend themselves, In such a situation the old man hires a company in charge of eliminating vermin and buys a machine that in principle is special to eliminate rats, but quickly this weapon and technology is overcome by rats, so the old man has to buy something stronger and more lethal. And without further ado this is the story of this chapter, with a lot of humor and death of rats. Something that I found quite curious about this chapter is that when the old man sees all the destruction and death that has caused this machine to eliminate rats, he mentions that "This looks like a 4th world war", implying that in that universe the 3rd world war has already happened.

In Vaulted Halls Entombed

This chapter is one of my favorites of this season, but it is also one of the ones I was looking forward to see a little more. It begins with a group of soldiers following some Middle Eastern characters who have kidnapped some people, they enter a cave and are followed by the soldiers, however, upon entering the cave, they see that there are several corpses that by their appearance seem to have been consumed to the bone leaving only a little flesh on them. Quickly, the soldiers discover what caused these deaths and it turns out that they are some kind of metallic spiders or something like that, but the most striking thing about these insects besides their great quantity and aggressiveness, is that they have a human face on them, and from this point I could perceive that this chapter is highly inspired by Lovecraft and his stories, and this is something that is confirmed in its entirety since almost at the end of the chapter Cthulhu himself appears. A pretty good chapter, which knows how to carry the suspense, although the faces of the characters look a little weird, it's classic "Uncanny Valley", which can be seen so much in video games, robots and CGI products.

Jibaro

This chapter is the strangest of all, because basically I think I did not understand anything of what I saw, in this chapter there is not even a dialogue, but many strange images at times and situations that look like a play. The story begins with some soldiers who seem to be from the Middle Ages, which are walking in a forest, but one of these soldiers goes to a lake that is near there and finds a piece of gold, suddenly the other soldiers and people who are in the group are attracted by a cry of a woman who is completely covered with gold and jewels, each of the soldiers goes to the woman and gradually die product of their own weapons or because they are gradually drowning in the lake. It's a very strange situation, everything is very fantastic and magical, a bit scary, but striking, but also the way these characters move is very theatrical and exaggerated. The soldiers look like they're under a spell because of this "witch" covered in gold and jewels, it's really quite a weird chapter.
