Siempre he sido una persona que no habia prestado demasiada atencion a las obras cinematograficas de mi pais, habian una que otra pelicula que podia disfrutar tan solo unos minutos antes de aburrirme por lo que se podran imaginar que cara puse cuando uno de mis amigos me hablo de esta pelicula hace unos años. Me la describia como una de las mejores peliculas de Venezuela, un drama de esos estilo Ciudad de Dios (2002) con esa melancolia y ese estilo sucio que caracterizaban las peliculas de pandillas norteamericanas, algo de parecido tienen ya que esta pelicula Venezolana tambien esta basada en la vida misma de su director Marcel Rasquin, que en medio de todo ese caos de la gran Caracas se atrevio a buscar un sueño y rodar esta pelicula.. En la ciudad mas peligrosa del mundo.

Venezuela desde hace ya un tiempo venia afrontando olas de crimen cada dia que pasa y el gran punto de focalizacion suele ser su capital Caracas, la ciudad vive en un perpetuo estado de alerta que tiene a sus habitantes mirando por encima de sus hombros cada que vez que ponen un pie en la calle, los barrios son quiza los mas golpeados por toda esta situacion ya que son cultivo de muchos nuevos criminales debido a la falta de oportunidades y a la falta de moral de algunos de esos individuos.

La pelicula nos traslada hasta este plano y en primeras instancias nos deja respirar todo ese aire de pobreza que destila, los techos cayendose a pedazos y la falta de espacio es lo que nos estalla en las pupilas para luego introducir a nuestros dos protagonistas: Daniel y Julio, uno sueña con convertirse en un futbolista profesional y el otro no tiene un sueño en especifico, vive del dinero sucio que gana para mantener a su familia a flote.

Nuestra bienvenida a este filme son dos realidades muy distintas entre si que al mismo tiempo se sobreponen, la busqueda de el sueño imposible desafia a la realidad de la situacion de otro hombre que vive el doloroso hoy dia a dia, la delincuencia, la extorsion y la corrupcion reinan en estas zonas y su director nos lo hace saber con su puesta en escena, dos jovenes encarnan los sueños y esperanzas de miles de venezolanos que encuentran su escape en el futbol y esperan impacientes el dia de que la vida les de una oportunidad.

Ya entrados en la trama se vive ese rastro de esperanza, la paleta de colores cambia y se vuelve mas luminosa cuando se conoce que uno de los cazatalentos de uno de los mejores equipos del pais esta buscando nuevas estrellas justamente en su ciudad, tenemos este oasis en el medio del desierto que no solo nuestros protagonistas estan buscando y que ciertamente no son los favoritos a beber de sus aguas, si bien la pelicula nos lleva de la mano por sugestiones de una mejor vida, cada vez que estamos a punto de probar el elixir nos deja bien en claro que esta no es una historia de las que terminan bien.

Afuera del barrio todo parece mas extenso, mas detallado y con mejor luz, la primera vez que vemos la ciudad de cerca tenemos espacios llenos de ruido pero que transmiten una sensacion de meyor movimiento, un breve respiro antes de bajar nuevamente a el bajo mundo de Caracas.

Nos meten de lleno en lo oscuro que pueden ser las sombras de la capital, en un lugar en donde se respira la criminalidad y las fuerzas del orden son mas alguien de quien debes cuidarte que un ente imparcial, -Aca estas solo- repiten sin parar cada uno de los sobrevivientes de este sistema caido, todos son responsables pero tambien victimas de alguna manera, todos contribuyen a que ocurran tragedias que marquen aun mas el odio entre ellos mismos, y en ese momento es donde ocurre lo que marca una de tantas vidas.

En un momento de la pelicula justo despues de mostrarnos lo crudo que pueden ser estos espacios sucede un tiroteo, uno de tantos que viven a diario en esta ciudad pero con un saldo fatal, la madre de nuestros protagonistas, una de las unicas luces que brillaban en la vida de Julio y Daniel se apaga de forma tragica, dando a entender que los malos contactos de Julio fueron razon de su asesinato.

Aqui es donde vemos la dualidad de dos formas de reaccionar en estos personajes, el caos y la venganza o la superacion y el perdon, cada escena esta cargada de tension ahora, no solo por los barrios de Petare si no por la friccion que hay ahora entre los dos hermanos buscando imponer su camino.

Es ahi en medio de toda esa tormenta de dolor en donde ocurre lo impensado, Daniel y Julio descubren al asesino de su madre y hacen todo lo posible para planear una venganza en contra de uno de los criminales protegidos por los capos de esta mafia, uno de ellos se v superado por la situacion y prefiere dejar todo pasar en paz, aun con el dolor dentro, acabar con el asesino significaria que ellos caerian muertos despues. La relacion entre los hermanos es puesta a pruba una vez mas pero concuerdan en que la venganza quiza en ese momento no era un camino viable.

De ahi tenemos un timejump que nos ubica unos meses despues en un partido de futbol, es un partido oficial pero en una de las calles de los barrios de Petare con bandalos a su alrededor se juega una final de torneo, un ambiente surrealista a plena luz de dia nos pone en el foco a los dos hermanos en un equipo en el otro de manera inesperada se encuentra quien asesino a su madre, no sirve de nada la justicia aca asi que la rabia se debe drenar en el campo, ambos llevan al equipo a un marcador favorable pero una vez mas mano de corrupcion hace presencia y uno de los criminales afuera del campo da la orden y amenaza al equipo entero para dejarse perder, algo que enfurece profundamente a Julio que acepta maldiciendo las condiciones y que de la misma manera hace que el equipo contrincante se mofe, empiece una pelea en el que Daniel explota completamente y mata a patadas en la cabeza al asesino de su madre, sin darse cuenta que el lider de las bandas criminales habia entrado al campo con un arma que dispararia a matar a Daniel.. Corte a negro.

Algun par de años mas tardenos encontramos en un estadio de futbol, los balazos de aquel dia se mezclan con el ruido de la multitud en el estadio, los equipos salen a la cancha y se alinean para rendir honores al himno nacional, la camara va pasando por cada jugador hasta que nos encontramos una cara conocida: Julio. jugando en el campo.

Cinematografia

Esta es una de esas peliculas que, guiados de la mano de un guion excelente y unos personajes bien establecidos te crea una atmosfera unica al mismo tiempo que nos transporta a mirar a Caracas con otros ojos, las tomas incluso cuando son a los viejos barrios de Petare son amplias pero conservan sus sombras y es solo cuando salimos de aquella zona cuando verdaderamente vemos un cambio en el estilo de filmar las escenas, tenemos que recordar que casi sin presupuesto, en un pais en una profunda crisis y sin apoyo de ningun ente, su director ha podido culminar una obra que supone un antes y un despues en el cine Venezolano.

He described it to me as one of the best Venezuelan movies, a drama like City of God (2002) with that melancholy and dirty style that characterized the American gang movies, something similar since this Venezuelan movie is also based on the life of its director Marcel Rasquin, who in the middle of all that chaos of the great Caracas dared to look for a dream and shoot this movie... In the most dangerous city in the world.

Venezuela for some time now has been facing waves of crime every day that passes and the great focal point is usually its capital Caracas, the city lives in a perpetual state of alert that has its inhabitants looking over their shoulders every time they set foot on the street, the neighborhoods are perhaps the hardest hit by this whole situation as they are cultivating many new criminals due to lack of opportunities and lack of morals of some of these individuals.

Our welcome to this film are two very different realities that at the same time overlap, the search for the impossible dream challenges the reality of the situation of another man who lives the painful day to day, crime, extortion and corruption reign in these areas and its director lets us know with his staging, two young men embody the dreams and hopes of thousands of Venezuelans who find their escape in soccer and impatiently await the day that life gives them a chance.

Once we get into the plot, we live that trace of hope, the color palette changes and becomes brighter when we learn that one of the scouts of one of the best teams in the country is looking for new stars just in their city, We have this oasis in the middle of the desert that not only our protagonists are looking for and that certainly are not the favorites to drink from its waters, although the film takes us by the hand by suggestions of a better life, every time we are about to taste the elixir makes it clear that this is not a story that ends well.

Outside the neighborhood everything seems more extensive, more detailed and with better light, the first time we see the city up close we have spaces full of noise but that transmit a sensation of better movement, a brief respite before descending again to the underworld of Caracas.

We are plunged into the dark shadows of the capital, in a place where criminality is breathed and the forces of law and order are more someone to watch out for than an impartial entity, -Aca estas solo- repeated endlessly by each of the survivors of this fallen system, all are responsible but also victims in some way, all contribute to tragedies that further mark the hatred among themselves, and at that moment is where it happens what marks one of many lives.

At one point in the film just after showing us how raw these spaces can be, a shooting happens, one of many that live daily in this city but with a fatal outcome, the mother of our protagonists, one of the only lights that shone in the lives of Julio and Daniel is extinguished in a tragic way, implying that Julio's bad contacts were the reason for his murder.

Here is where we see the duality of two ways of reacting in these characters, chaos and revenge or overcoming and forgiveness, every scene is loaded with tension now, not only for the neighborhoods of Petare but for the friction that there is now between the two brothers seeking to impose their way.

It is there in the middle of all that storm of pain where the unthinkable happens, Daniel and Julio discover the murderer of their mother and do everything possible to plan a revenge against one of the criminals protected by the mafia bosses, one of them is overcome by the situation and prefers to let everything happen in peace, even with the pain inside, to finish with the murderer would mean that they would fall dead later. The relationship between the brothers is put to the test once again but they agree that revenge was perhaps not a viable path at that moment.

From there we have a timejump that places us a few months later in a soccer match, it is an official match but in one of the streets of Petare neighborhoods with bandits around a tournament final is played, a surreal atmosphere in broad daylight puts us in the spotlight the two brothers in a team on the other unexpectedly is found who killed his mother, justice is useless here so the rage must be drained on the field, both lead the team to a favorable score but once again the hand of corruption is present and one of the criminals outside the field gives the order and threatens the entire team to let them lose, something that deeply infuriates Julio who accepts cursing the conditions and in the same way makes the opposing team scoff, starts a fight in which Daniel explodes completely and kicks his mother's murderer in the head, not realizing that the leader of the criminal gangs had entered the field with a gun that would shoot to kill Daniel. . A couple of years later we find ourselves in a soccer stadium, the gunshots of that day are mixed with the noise of the crowd in the stadium, the teams come out onto the field and line up to pay homage to the national anthem, the camera passes by each player until we find a familiar face: Julio. playing on the field.

Cinematography

This is one of those films that, guided by an excellent script and well established characters, creates a unique atmosphere and at the same time transports us to look at Caracas with different eyes, The shots even when they are in the old neighborhoods of Petare are wide but retain their shadows and it is only when we leave that area when we truly see a change in the style of filming the scenes, we must remember that almost no budget, in a country in a deep crisis and without support from any entity, its director has been able to complete a work that is a before and after in the Venezuelan cinema.
