A Huge Let Down? A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) || Movie Review.

I had high expectations for this movie because I was curious as to how the aliens came into the plot of this movie. My “How?” and “Why?” questions were not answered. However, having watched the two previous installments, I've concluded that the first two sequels are the best work from this franchise and I was disappointed that this installment didn't live up to the initial sequels.

”A Quiet Place: Day One” is an apocalyptic horror movie that was written and directed by Michael Sarnoski. It is the third installment in the franchise and it is also the prequel. It starred Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou.
Though this movie was first written by Jeff Nichols and later picked up by Sarnoski, we still can't tell if Jeff’s would've been better than Sarnoski.

The plot of the movie follows Lupita Nyong'o as sam. A terminally ill cancer patient who lives at a hospice outside New York City with her cat, Frodo but is a member of a therapy group where they share their problems and Vent out their emotions. Reuben, a nurse at hospice, convinced Sam to go on an outing with her group in the city.

Sam began to explore the city in search of a pizza with Frodo in her arms when nurse Reuben told her that she needed to get back to the hospice bus with the others so that they would leave. Sam was reluctant and began to insist she get her pizza regardless. In the end, Sam listened to her nurse and went to the bus to join the others.

Not long, meteor-like objects began to fall from the sky, followed by vicious, blind, extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing. This creature began to harm people and destroy things. The city went up in flames as explosions kept happening simultaneously in different places. Before Sam knew what was happening, an explosion rock where she was standing trying to find a safe place to hide. This explosion knocked her unconscious. Did Sam wake up? What happened afterwards? Where did these extraterrestrial creatures come from? And why have they come?

My Review And Rating.

After the production of this sequel was announced, a lot of people expected that they would finally get to know the backstory of the extraterrestrial creatures. From the first installment of this franchise, I have been curious as to how and where the creatures came from and why they came to earth. Also, I know that I won't be the only one who taught about this.

Michael Sarnoski did an amazing job with this sequel but it doesn't measure up to the two initial sequels. For this sequel, Sarnoski concentrated and put in more work into the characters than the actual story arc of the film (the creatures). I say this because the creatures are the reason why this franchise has a story to tell in the first place.

The scene arrangements were excellent, the plot was well written but lacks substance. The characters were well built. The actors were the right pick, especially the two main characters and the cat. Can we please offer the cat a Grammy award. The storytelling technique was okay but lacked focus and the location was befitting.

Why I say this movie was a huge let down was because the plot fell flat for me. Yes we were introduced to characters that we don't even know why and how they are connected to the cause of chaos in the plot of the movie. They are just universal characters that can fit into any plot of any movie. They had attachment to the story of the movie and they had no purpose. Also, the characters were all introduced in a dull manner hence their backstory failed to impress the audience.

The chaos, the adrenaline rush were fully present, the action was there and the eerie suspense was there also, but in the end, I feel that Sarnoski took us on a circular journey and brought us back to where we started from again. He didn't resolve the major motive behind this trilogy, he didn't explain to his viewer his character was meant to be in the plot and overall, he drew the substance of this trilogy (creatures) out the window.

What made me watch this movie to the end were the two main characters, the cat, the eerie suspense before the creatures attack, the chaos and the action. I say, Lupita Nyong'o did amazingly well with her character. The bluntness, the resilience, and the courage of her character was adequately portrayed.

Two things I strongly find fault in from the producers of this movie is the fact that their marketing was deceiving and misleading. Their trailer depicted the wrong storyline of the movie which made the viewers have high expectations for the final installment. Also, the element of horror was missing.

Rating this movie, I will give 6 out of 10 stars. Would I recommend it? Yes actually. If you are into apocalyptic horror films, then you should try out this movie and if you haven't seen the previous installments I suggest you start from the first sequel that will be produced in 2018.

Have you seen ”A Quiet Place: Day One”? Did you enjoy it?

I agree with you that the film lacked substance and left us with the same questions we had with the other two installments.

I think it is simply part of this world, what was successful was in making us empathize with these protagonists. In the end I could say that I did like it.

se ve interesante, buena reseña!

looks interesting, good review!
