3 películas románticas con un enfoque trágico | 3 romantic movies with a tragic twist

Yo, al ser un fanático de sabotear mi bienestar emociona, he estado dándome un maratón de películas románticas y entre algunas de ellas he encontrado joyas con un color bastante diferente a lo habitual. Mi afición por lo melancólico no se queda solamente con la música, también me gusta mucho en el cine, por lo que entre estas películas románticas, las que más me gustaron fueron aquellas que no fueron historias felices. Son historias de amor disfuncional, de amor roto, complicado y perdido. Ver el amor desde este enfoque, es más realista y crudo, son historias que me hacen sentir mucho más que aquellas que idealizan el amor. Por ello, hoy quiero recomendarles tres películas románticas muy hermosas, pero que también podrían hacerte llorar.

Me, being a fan of sabotaging my emotional well-being, so I have been giving myself a marathon of romantic movies and among some of them I have found gems with a quite different color than usual. My fondness for the melancholic doesn't stay only with music, I also like it a lot in movies, so among these romantic movies, the ones I liked the most were those that were not happy stories. They are stories of dysfunctional love, of broken, complicated and lost love. Seeing love from this approach, is more realistic and raw, they are stories that make me feel much more than those that idealize love. Therefore, today I want to recommend three very beautiful romantic movies, but that could also make you cry.

Noah Baumbach, todo un experto en el género del Slice of Life, es el director de esta historia de drama familiar, con el humilde título de "Marriage Story" (Historia de un matrimonio). Protagonizada por Adam Driver y Scarlett Johansson, Marriage Story narra una historia muy normal que podría estar ocurriendo dentro de muchos hogares del mundo. La historia del matrimonio Barber, formado por Charlie y Nicole, está cayéndose a pedazos. Y no de una forma melodramática, la tragedia que sucede dentro de este vínculo, crece lentamente desde dentro. Nicole no se siente bien con las decisiones que han tomado como matrimonio, no le gusta el lugar en el que están viviendo y se siente estancada, en general, la llama de su amor se está apagando. Charlie, por su lado, siente que el mundo le está cayendo encima, piensa que ha estado haciendo las cosas bien y ver que su esposa quiere divorciarse, lo hace colapsar emocionalmente.

Visto de este modo, Marriage Story es la historia de un matrimonio roto en el que, se crea muy inteligentemente, un problema central, muy difuso, que de un modo u otro, está separando cada vez más a este matrimonio. Por ello, Marriage Story recae dentro de estas historias donde los espectadores toman un bando. La película no se pone necesariamente de parte de ninguno de los dos, aunque muchos puedan argumentar que le da el favor a Nicole. Marriage Story es también una historia con un mensaje feminista impreso de forma muy sutil dentro de su historia, queda de parte del espectador el analizar los comportamientos de los personajes.

La principal razón por la que Marriage Story es tan increíble, es por lo realista de su historia y lo bien interpretados que están los papeles de los personajes. Adam y Scarlett hacen un trabajo increíble encarnando a estos personajes, dando lugar a algunas de las escenas más legendarias del cine. Desde un enfoque delicado y sutil, Marriage Story es el retrato de un matrimonio que no da para más.

The story of the Barber marriage of Charlie and Nicole is falling apart. And not in a melodramatic way, the tragedy happening within this bond is slowly growing from within. Nicole doesn't feel good about the decisions they have made as a married couple, she doesn't like the place they are living in and feels stuck, overall, the flame of their love is dying out. Charlie, on the other hand, feels like the world is falling down on him, he thinks he has been doing things right and seeing that his wife wants a divorce, makes him collapse emotionally.

Therefore, Marriage Story falls into these stories where the viewers take sides. The film doesn't necessarily take a side, though many might argue that it gives Nicole the favor. The main reason Marriage Story is so incredible is because of how realistic its story is and how well played the characters' roles are. Adam and Scarlett do an incredible job embodying these characters, resulting in some of the most legendary scenes in cinema. From a delicate and subtle approach, Marriage Story is a portrait of a marriage that can't go on any longer.

De parte de uno de los creadores más sensibles del mundo del cine, Spike Jonze, llega "Her", una película de amor muy particular. Protagonizada por Joaquin Phoenix, Her nos cuenta la historia de Theodore Twombly, un escritor de cartas en una realidad futurística. Theodore es un hombre solitario y está rodeado del tema del amor debido a su trabajo, sin embargo, su soledad lo lastima constantemente y busca alguien con quien compartir, tras haber tenido una difícil experiencia amorosa.

Las cosas cambian cuando se comienza a volver popular una inteligencia artificial que es tan inteligente y emocional como una persona real. Comienza a convertirse en asistente virtual de millones de personas, y Theodore decide afiliarse a este servicio. Conforme pasa el tiempo, Theodore conversará constantemente con esta inteligencia artificial que es muchísimo más inteligente y emocional de lo que esperaba. Her es un retrato increíble de la soledad y del amor visto a través de la lupa de una realidad de ciencia ficción que se antoja más distópica que utópica. Una realidad donde la soledad y la falta de afecto crea estas realidades tan irónicamente trágicas. La cinematografía es hermosísima, con las paletas de colores pasteles y brillantes y una banda sonora increíblemente dulce.

From one of the most sensitive creators in the world of cinema, Spike Jonze, comes "Her", a very singular love film. As time goes by, Theodore will constantly converse with this artificial intelligence that is far more clever and sensitive than he expected. He comes to form a bond of friendship with her. A bond that will eventually turn into one of the strangest crushes ever portrayed in cinema.

Her is an incredible portrait of loneliness and love seen through the lens of a science fiction reality that seems more dystopian than utopian. A reality where loneliness and lack of affection create such ironically tragic realities. The cinematography is gorgeous, with pastel and bright color palettes and an incredibly sweet soundtrack.

Blue Valentine es de esas películas que definen un estilo entero. Si tuviera que escoger una de esta pequeña lista que representara a la perfección lo que significa el "amor roto", esta sería mi elección. Dirigida por Derek Cianfrance y protagonizada por Ryan Gosling y Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine es la historia de un matrimonio que se está yendo al diablo. No se separa mucho del mismo concepto que en muchas otras películas, pero lo que la hace interesante, es su forma de ser contada. Blue Valentine combina escenas del presente en esta relación, mientras las mezcla con escenas del pasado, de como esta pareja se conoció y se enamoró. Lo cual crea un contraste increíble, ya que las escenas del pasado encajan perfecto como una película romántica soñadora, mientras que las escenas actuales son sumamente tristes y desalentadoras.

La historia de Dean y Cindy está marcada por la disfuncionalidad. Ambos son personas tóxicas, con malos hábitos y comportamientos cuestionables. Y aunque se amen mucho, con el tiempo, la incompatibilidad entre ambos no puede evitar hacerse presente. Dean intenta revivir la llama del romance, pero Cindy no quiere hacerlo, y Dean intenta revivir la llama de formas muy cuestionables también, lo cual lleva constantemente a conflictos.

Blue Valentine es la película de "anti-romance" perfecta, una historia de amor desalentadora, acerca de esos romances que no suelen mostrarse en pantalla. En general, es una gran película, con increíbles actuaciones, increíble cinematografía y una banda sonora encantadora.

Blue Valentine is one of those movies that define an entire style. If I had to pick one from this short list that perfectly represents what "broken love" means, this would be my choice. Directed by Derek Cianfrance and starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine is the story of a marriage going to hell. It doesn't deviate much from the same concept as many other films, but what makes it interesting is the way it is told. Blue Valentine combines scenes from the present in this relationship, while mixing them with scenes from the past, of how this couple met and fell in love. Which creates an incredible contrast, as the scenes from the past fit perfectly as a dreamy romantic movie, while the present day scenes are extremely sad and disheartening.

Dean and Cindy's story is marked by dysfunctionality. They are both toxic people, with bad habits and questionable behaviors. And although they love each other dearly, over time, the incompatibility between the two can't help but become present. Dean tries to rekindle the flame of romance, but Cindy doesn't want to, and Dean tries to rekindle the flame in very questionable ways as well, which constantly leads to conflict.

Blue Valentine is the perfect "anti-romance" movie, a daunting love story, about those romances that are not usually shown on screen. Overall, it's a great movie, with incredible performances, amazing cinematography and a lovely soundtrack.
