Hace algunos días comenté que vi mi primer k-drama —incluso cuando había dicho que nunca vería uno— y ahora vuelvo por acá para traerles mi opinión sobre otro, porque una vez que caes en este terreno, no puedes salir.

La razón por la que comencé a ver esta serie es muy divertida, dado que en este momento yo estoy realizando mis pasantías de Psicología Organizacional en un hotel, y cuando mi compañera (la principal culpable de que ahora pase horas viendo series coreanas) me comentó que la trama comenzaba con la protagonista siendo interna en el hotel donde se desarrolla la historia, tuve la necesidad de verlo🤭😂 Y así fue cómo esta serie se convirtió en mi momento de paz cada vez que volvía a casa de mis pasantías.

Así que sin spoilers te daré mi opinión de King The Land✨

A few days ago I commented that I watched my first k-drama -even when I had said I would never watch one- and now I'm back here to bring you my opinion on another one, because once you fall into this terrain, you can't get out.

The reason why I started watching this series is very funny, given that at this moment I am doing my Organizational Psychology internship in a hotel, and when my partner (the main culprit that now I spend hours watching Korean series) told me that the plot started with the main character being an intern in the hotel where the story takes place, I had the need to watch it🤭😂 And that's how this series became my moment of peace every time I came home from my internships.

So without spoilers I'll give you my opinion of King The Land✨

La historia se centra en Gu Won quien regresa al país después de varios años para descubrir todo el misterio que envuelve la desaparición de su madre, sin embargo, al llegar se encuentra dentro de una disputa con su hermana mayor por la dirección del Grupo King, la corporación de su familia que se encarga del manejo de hoteles, aerolíneas y tiendas.

Gu Won es un hombre serio, frío e inexpresivo, una personalidad completamente diferente a la de Cheon Sa-rang, una de las mejores empleadas del Hotel King; una joven carismática, servicial y siempre sonriente, un rasgo que le molesta demasiado a Gu Won. Los primeros encuentros entre los protagonistas no son nada románticos, a ambos le incomoda la actitud del otro, incluso a Sa-rang quien a pesar de ser una mujer muy cálida con los huéspedes, le disgusta el carácter de su nuevo jefe.

Y de esta manera se va generando un lindo romance, con Gu Won sanando sus heridas del pasado y permitiéndose demostrar todo su potencial, y Sa-rang aprendiendo que los sueños pueden ser más amplios de lo que imaginas.

The story centers on Gu Won who returns to the country after several years to uncover the mystery surrounding his mother's disappearance, but upon his arrival he finds himself in a dispute with his older sister over the management of the King Group, his family's corporation that runs hotels, airlines and stores.

Gu Won is a serious, cold and inexpressive man, a completely different personality from Cheon Sa-rang, one of the best employees of the King Hotel; a charismatic, helpful and always smiling young woman, a trait that annoys Gu Won too much. The first meetings between the protagonists are not romantic at all, both are uncomfortable with the attitude of the other, even Sa-rang who despite being a very warm woman with the guests, dislikes the character of her new boss.

And so a nice romance ensues, with Gu Won healing his past wounds and allowing himself to show his full potential, and Sa-rang learning that dreams can be broader than you imagine.

Algo que vemos desde el comienzo es la diferencia entre ambos protagonistas, Gu Won es un joven solitario y heredero de una gran empresa, mientras que Sa-rang es una ordinaria pero muy talentosa, que está rodeada de grandes amigos. Totalmente distintos en clases sociales, comportamientos e intereses, y, sin embargo, esa es la cuestión de la vida, las particularidades que nos definen nos hacen únicos e interesantes para alguien más. Y eso fue lo que sucedió aquí. Ambos comprendieron que aquello que más le molestaba del otro eran aspectos que debían mejorar en sí mismos.

Sus primeros encuentros fueron muy malos, pero realmente divertidos para el espectador. Varias veces me podías encontrar en mi habitación, riéndome sola por esas escenas; y aunque las historias románticas de amores a primera vista pueden ser muy lindas y mágicas, en mi parecer son más entretenidas los dramas de “enemies to lovers”, es más intenso.

Something we see from the beginning is the difference between the two protagonists, Gu Won is a lonely young man and heir to a big company, while Sa-rang is an ordinary but very talented, who is surrounded by great friends. Totally different in social classes, behaviors and interests, and yet that's the thing about life, the particularities that define us make us unique and interesting to someone else. And that's what happened here. They both understood that what bothered them most about each other were aspects they needed to improve in themselves.

Their first encounters were very bad, but really fun for the viewer. Several times you could find me in my room, laughing alone because of those scenes; and although romantic stories of love at first sight can be very cute and magical, in my opinion "enemies to lovers" dramas are more entertaining, it's more intense.

Por ejemplo, a él le molestaba demasiado la actitud positiva y sonriente de Sa-rang, ¿y cuál era el problema? Él tenía varias heridas que sanar, que no le permitían ver la felicidad de la vida. Mientras que a ella le disgustaba el comportamiento frío y calculador de Gu Won, porque debía aprender que no siempre debes ser una persona servicial con todos, hay momentos en que necesitas tener tú el control de la situación, especialmente en tu vida —analizando a los personajes, porque no puedo dejar atrás la psicóloga que vive en mí😂—

Él era muy cerrado y serio, siempre buscaba la manera de apartar a todos y hacer las cosas por su cuenta, por eso me encantó ver su desarrollo, ver la manera en que vivía cada fase del enamoramiento (muy divertido para mí), como finalmente comenzó a sonreír, estar más inspirado en su trabajo, y a disfrutar de la vida en general. Y la influencia de él sobre ella se evidencia al final, cuando Sa-rang se da cuenta de que su sueño no es solo de ser una empleada servicial, es mayor que eso, y en él encuentra la fuerza y motivación para lograr su meta.

For example, he was too annoyed by Sa-rang's positive and smiling attitude, and what was the problem? He had several wounds to heal, which didn't allow him to see the happiness of life. While she disliked Gu Won's cold and calculating behavior, because she had to learn that you should not always be a helpful person to everyone, there are times when you need to be in control of the situation, especially in your life -analyzing the characters, because I can't leave behind the psychologist that lives in me😂-

He was very closed and serious, always looking for a way to push everyone away and do things on his own, so I loved watching his development, seeing the way he lived each phase of falling in love (very funny to me), how he finally started to smile, be more inspired in his work, and enjoy life in general. And his influence on her is evident at the end, when Sa-rang realizes that her dream is not just to be a helpful employee, it's bigger than that, and in him, she finds the strength and motivation to achieve her goal.

Hay dos historias que debo mencionar porque me encantaron los personajes y conecté con ellas varias veces, hablo de las dos mejores amigas de Sa-rang: Oh Pyeong-hwa y Kang Da-eul💕

Oh Pyeong-hwa, trabaja como azafata en las aerolíneas del Grupo King. Con sus amigas es extrovertida y risueña, pero en el ámbito laboral es una persona completamente distinta (y más abajo comentaré el porqué). Vemos como en el pasado fue engañada por su exnovio en una situación que se mantiene como una sombra sobre su vida actual. Y es fácil conectarse con ella, porque ¿quiénes de nosotros ha tenido que fingir estar bien cuando realmente no lo está? ¿O ha tenido que callar sus problemas para no causar preocupación a nuestros seres queridos?

There are two stories that I must mention because I loved the characters and connected with them several times, I'm talking about Sa-rang's two best friends Oh Pyeong-hwa and Kang Da-eul💕

Oh Pyeong-hwa, works as a flight attendant at King Group Airlines. With her friends she is outgoing and giggly, but in the work environment she is a completely different person (and I'll discuss why below). We see how in the past she was betrayed by her ex-boyfriend in a situation that lingers like a shadow over her current life. And it's easy to connect with her, because who of us has had to pretend to be okay when we're really not? Or had to keep quiet about our problems so as not to cause concern to our loved ones?

Y Kang Da-eul, es una vendedora en una de las tiendas del Grupo King (sí, todas trabajan para la misma corporación). De joven soñaba con enamorarse y casarse, no obstante, no supo escoger bien a su pareja, y terminó vinculada con un hombre holgazán y mentiroso, quien solo se aprovecha de ella y la trata como una criada. Es difícil ver como trabaja tan duro cada día, y luego verla llegar a casa muy cansada para encontrarse con un marido sumamente intolerante que me causaba un tic en el ojo cada vez que lo veía.

Pero lo más bonito es la hija pequeña de Kang Da-eul, quien fue mi personaje favorito de toda la historia. Madura e increíblemente inteligente, reconoce lo que está mal en su entorno e incluso le reclama a su padre que “cuando sea grande no se va a casar con un hombre flojo como él, que debería agradecer a su madre por preparar la comida, y que lo mínimo que puede hacer es pararse a sacar la basura”

And Kang Da-eul, is a saleswoman in one of the King Group stores (yes, they all work for the same corporation). When she was young she dreamed of falling in love and getting married, however, she didn't know how to choose her partner well, and ended up tied to a lazy and lying man, who only takes advantage of her and treats her like a maid. It is hard to watch her work so hard every day, and then to see her come home very tired to find an extremely intolerant husband who gave me a twitch in my eye every time I saw him.

But the cutest thing is Kang Da-eul's little daughter, who was my favorite character in the whole story. Mature and incredibly intelligent, she recognizes what's wrong with her surroundings and even claims to her father that "when she grows up she's not going to marry a lazy man like him, that he should thank her mother for preparing the food, and that the least he can do is stand to take out the garbage."

Como dije al principio, estoy realizando mis pasantías de Psicología Organizacional, el área de la psicología que interviene en el desarrollo de una empresa y sus empleados, por lo tanto, pude darme cuenta de los diversos problemas que se presentan en la jornada laboral de estas tres amigas, y es importante hablar de eso dado que es una realidad que muchos viven.

A Oh Pyeong-hwa, la vemos esforzarse tanto, dar todo de sí misma para hacer un trabajo excelente, y nunca ser valorada por nada, todo lo contrario, a pesar de su dedicación, las personas de su entorno laboral siempre encontraban la manera de menospreciar su compromiso. ¡Y me daba tanta frustración! Era una muchacha maravillosa, pero se encontraba en un lugar lleno de personas tan desagradables que siempre buscaban pisarla y pasar por encima de ella. Incluso cuando fue la empleada que ayudó a su grupo a tener mayores ventas y ascender su posición en la compañía, le dieron el ascenso de trabajo que tanto se merecía a otra.

Un claro ejemplo de acoso laboral; criticaban cada uno de sus movimientos, en cada momento le recordaban que no hacía un buen trabajo (aunque sí lo hacía), indagaron en su pasado y lo usaron como un arma en su contra para desacreditarla, y si eso no es suficiente, también había cierto piloto que la acosaba sexualmente. Aprendemos que incluso en el ambiente laboral debemos establecer límites, que al momento de ser quebrantados se debe alzar la voz, y ella por miedo a perder su trabajo, no lo hacía.

As I said at the beginning, I'm doing my internship in Organizational Psychology, the area of psychology that intervenes in the development of a company and its employees, therefore, I was able to realize the various problems that arise in the workday of these three friends, and it's important to talk about it since it's a reality that many live.

Oh Pyeong-hwa, we see her trying so hard, giving her all to do an excellent job, and never being appreciated for anything, on the contrary, despite her dedication, people in her work environment always found a way to belittle her commitment. And it made me so frustrated! She was a wonderful girl, but she found herself in a place full of such unpleasant people who were always looking to step on her toes and walk all over her. Even when she was the employee who helped her group have higher sales and move up her position in the company, she was given the job promotion she so deserved to someone else.

A clear example of workplace harassment; they criticized her every move, at every moment they reminded her that she didn't do a good job (although she did), they inquired into her past and used it as a weapon against her to discredit her, and if that's not enough, there was also a certain pilot who sexually harassed her. We learn that even in the work environment we must establish limits, that when they are broken we must raise our voices, and she, for fear of losing her job, did not do so.

Con Kang Da-eul vemos la explotación laboral, dado que la jefa no solo la manipulaba para que hiciera trabajo que no le correspondía, teniendo que alargar injustificadamente su horario laboral, horas extras que obviamente no eran remuneradas, sino que, además, la amenazaba con despedir a otras integrantes del grupo si no subían las ventas de la tienda, y quien se debía encargar de eso era Kang Da-eul, y al mismo tiempo, esta ‘brillante’ jefa utilizaba el dinero de la tienda para realizar compras personales.

Y con Sa-rang comprendemos las exigencias psicológicas de trabajar con Atención al Cliente, porque aunque sus amigas también trabajaban con clientes, sus trabajos se inclinaban más hacia las ventas, mientras que para Sa-rang era el servicio. Vimos varios clientes tan irritantes y antipáticos que le robaban toda la energía a la protagonista, y al final terminaba su día completamente agotada, y con los pies cansados de usar tacones mientras corría de un lugar del hotel a otro por demandas que debía cumplir.

Sinceramente, podría hacer todo un informe psicológico de los riesgos psicosociales que se manifiestan en los empleados de King the Land😂 Lo único positivo fue que Gu Won se dio cuenta de la realidad de sus trabajadores y comenzó a realizar varias intervenciones para corregir esto, y eso me encantó.

With Kang Da-eul we see labor exploitation, since the boss not only manipulated her to do work that didn't correspond to her, having to unjustifiably extend her working hours, overtime that was obviously not paid, but also threatened to fire other members of the group if the store's sales did not increase, and who should be in charge of that was Kang Da-eul, and at the same time, this 'brilliant' boss used the store's money to make personal purchases.

And with Sa-rang we understand the psychological demands of working with Customer Service, because although her friends also worked with customers, their jobs leaned more towards sales, while for Sa-rang it was service. We saw several customers so irritating and unfriendly that they robbed the protagonist of all her energy, and in the end she ended her day completely exhausted, and with tired feet from wearing heels as she ran from one part of the hotel to another for demands she had to meet.

Honestly, I could do a whole psychological report on the psychosocial risks that manifest themselves in King the Land employees 😂. The only positive thing was that Gu Won realized the reality of his workers and started to make several interventions to correct this, and I loved that.

En cuestión de romance siento que en los k-dramas todo pasa muy fácil, el destino conspira para que a la protagonista le salga todo bien, pero King the Land llevaron eso al máximo, un tanto surrealista. A Sa-rang todo le salía bien, todo lo hacía perfecto. No importa en cuantos problemas se metiera, al final todo se resolvía no solo bien, sino extraordinario. Y para mí hubo un punto en que eso comenzó a molestar, era demasiada perfección en todo, quería algo más demandante y realista.

Pero vemos este tipo series para salir un poco de la dura realidad. Además, sinceramente las escenas románticas fueron un 10/10, al igual que los momentos entre amigas 💜 Hay algo que aún te permite conectar con los personajes y sus vidas, a pesar de como se desarrollen los hechos.

In terms of romance, I feel that in k-dramas everything happens very easily, fate conspires for the protagonist to get everything right, but King the Land took that to the maximum, a bit surreal. Sa-rang did everything right, everything was perfect. No matter how much trouble she got into, in the end everything was resolved not only well, but extraordinarily. And for me there was a point where that started to bother me, it was too much perfection in everything, I wanted something more demanding and realistic.

But we watch this kind of series to get out of the harsh reality a little. Also, honestly the romantic scenes were a 10/10, as were the moments between friends 💜 There's something that still allows you to connect with the characters and their lives, despite how the events unfold.

Son 16 episodios de poco más de una hora, la llamaba “mi momento de telenovela”, disfruté cada capítulo y me mantuvo enganchada durante cada minuto. Es conocida como uno de los mejores k-dramas de este año, y tiene motivos para llevar este título.

Hay que hacer una acotación especial para el maravilloso trabajo que hicieron los encargados de vestir a los protagonistas, porque Sa-rang se viste precioso, ¿pero Gu Won? W-O-W, ese hombre se viste espectacular🤭💕 Uno de los personajes con más estilo que he visto en mi vida. Fue un detalle que amé, y no podía dejar de comentarlo😂

No juzguen algo si aún no lo han probado, le di una oportunidad a las series coreanas y descubrí que me encantan. No las veo seguido por ser tan largas, intento darme un descanso antes de comenzar otras, pero realmente son entretenidas y te regalan un momento de paz😌

It's 16 episodes of just over an hour, I called it “my soap opera moment”, I enjoyed every episode, and it kept me hooked for every minute. It's known as one of the best k-dramas of this year, and it has every reason to carry this title.

A special mention must be made for the wonderful job done by the people in charge of dressing the main characters, because Sa-rang dresses beautifully, but Gu Won? W-O-W, that man dresses spectacular🤭💕 One of the most stylish characters I've ever seen in my life. It was a detail I loved, and I couldn't stop commenting😂

Don't judge something if you haven't tried it yet, I gave Korean series a chance and found that I love them. I don't watch them often because they are so long, I try to give myself a break before starting other, but they really are entertaining and give you a moment of peace😌
