Drive of Sacrifice

in Self Improvement2 years ago

I don't know why, but last night I just couldn't get to sleep properly and each time I dozed off, something would trigger me to wake back up and the process would start again. This used to be a nightly occurrence once upon a time, however once I started using my brain more, it subsided. Which now has me thinking - am I mentally slacking?

Perhaps.

It is not that I am not doing anything, as I am doing a lot, but perhaps it is that it is a lot of low-grade activities that only challenge me due to their volume, not their content. And, because of all of what is going on, I am not writing as much as I would like, which is generally a sink for mental power for me, drawing any extra energy there might be available, leaving me drained and ready for sleep in the evening. The amount of work is draining still, but in a different way.

Now however, due to the near absence of sleep, I am having trouble focusing, which is why I came to the office instead of working from home. At least here, I will get "something" done, even if it isn't overly productive. It also means I can spend a few minutes talking with colleagues, which is an important part of working life for me, personally and professionally, as if there is little to like in the people I work with, I am unlikely to get engaged in what I do - especially since my job is an internal enablement role.

I don't know how people work in places where they don't like their colleagues.

Do it for the money alone, I guess?

It is interesting to consider what we would do for the money and, how much. There is the job component and of course, the "Indecent Proposal" of it, as well as how much harm we are willing to cause or, pain willing to inflict. What is worse, selling weapons for hundreds of millions, or killing someone over hundreds?

What are you willing to do and for how much?

"I would never" seems to be said often, but when there is enough money on the table, is it true? Is there really the concept of "priceless"?

Perhaps for some things.

But for most, I think there probably is a price and for many, that price is incredibly low, often dictated by local values. What is the price to "take a life" in your city? That is probably a darkweb search, but in some places, it really isn't very much by all reports and in many places, taking a life is done for the chance of a small score out of a wallet, an amount that is unknown before the killing.

We live in a strange world.

Don't we?

image.png

It is hard not to get depressed at the state of this world at times, as even though we all play a part in the outcomes, there seems to be some who play more of a part than others, on both the positive and the negative sides. And while it is easier to look at the big macro problems of the world, perhaps the most depressing is what happens at the micro local level, where we interact directly with people who are much like us, trying to do the best they can too.

Though "best" is relative to the individual, as are the hierarchy of importance of life activities and desires. We are all willing to work hard at something, what that "something" is might differ greatly however, as might white be willing to be incentivized to do it.

A lot of people don't want to work for a wage and will work very hard not to do so, for far less return than if they just got a job. Some are willing to kill others for what they could get paid in a 40 hour week.

Strange world.

But, while we might be willing to do a lot for money, what are we willing to forego and endure to follow our dreams? What are we willing to give up for love?

Not an easy answer perhaps, because what most of us are doing in this life, are choosing to work for money to meet our living needs, at the expense of following what we actually want to do. But, many of those who claim they are doing what they want to do, are struggling to live and not enjoying that experience either. Very few are able to find a way to satisfy both and I don't think anyone is able to fulfill both sides completely.

It is a world of sacrifice.

I believe, the problem is many of us just follow the "regular" path and sooner or later are trapped in the monthly income needs to pay for the bills.
Last year I saw some Italian small villages offering housing and jobs for those intending to move there, and last week I saw the same for a small town not far away from home. They need a minimum of population to keep the school open as well as basic public health care in town, so they offer you a very cheap rental and help to find a job if you move there.

A €200 to €300 per month rental of a new house and help to find a job make a big difference as you can afford to work on what you like even if you do not get paid that much as your monthly bills are much smaller.

Then there are those working from home who do not need to live in expensive towns as all they need is a good network connection and can afford to live closer to nature.

My personal feeling is that little by little there are different options than the regular path of going to school, finding a job, buying a house, raising a family, and getting trapped in a job you may not like just because you need to pay the bills.

I believe, the problem is many of us just follow the "regular" path and sooner or later are trapped in the monthly income needs to pay for the bills.

I agree. It is the "safe" path.

That sounds like an interesting offer - do they take foreigners?

The Italian villages did, and I don't see why the Spanish ones may not. All they need is for the population in the village to stop falling or even increase a little bit.
Yesterday, they had an open day to show the appartments and the different companies recruiting in the area, 25 families showed up. You can use Google to translate this link

The answer is not easy Mr. Taraz, I think that in a world of sacrifices we are all addicted to the moments of happiness and become aware of this all the different beliefs and ways of thinking are nothing more than agreements that we establish with ourselves and with other human beings....is our creation that we do not know if it will be true with the symbols we use to build what we know, think, do ...I would say the truth of each one...

I think it is good to stop punishing ourselves so much for the same mistake and to extend the moments of happiness, just thinking about it.

I think that in a world of sacrifices we are all addicted to the moments of happiness

And, doesn't this lead to even more sacrifices down the road, where we overvalue pleasure, rather than value?

It is possible, but everything will always depend on the choice and decision that each person makes to be happy while having this life here and now... Will it be worth it to continue reinforcing these paradigms of so much sacrifice in the future? 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗲𝘀𝗼, 𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿 individually...as I always say we are 100% responsible Mr. Taraz

I also believe that no matter how happy we pretend to be, we all have to suffer that struggle, that tension that is generated between our dark feelings and the rough flare of the wide, bright, shiny, luminous, and happy world.

But, while we might be willing to do a lot for money, what are we willing to forego and endure to follow our dreams? What are we willing to give up for love?

That's a very big and very good question...

Very well said. I think You've been restless because the void / the universe has been sending you knowledge to share with us... perhaps

Thanks for sharing!

Have you considered what you would give up in life for love?

I gave everything up for love 😊

I lost my love as well in the end, but I was gifted Radical "Liberation" in return.

Sometimes we don't get what we want, but instead we get what we need as some pretty cool humans once said

The money comes and goes. It's not worth happiness, health or freedom in my opinion.

And, in fact, it seems to usually bring the opposite of why we're always chasing it so...

Great post with a perspective that should be shared widely.

Nice one 👍👏🦊

I lost my love as well in the end, but I was gifted Radical "Liberation" in return.

Worth it?

Hmmmmmm... no. That wasn't worth the exchange.

Good question again though.

I don't know how people work in places where they don't like their colleagues.

I think they have to in early days. Later, it becomes difficult and things out of work replaces the work. If irresistible, they change department or job in the end.

Maybe even in early days it was important for me to like at least some of them. Not all of course, as that just doesn't happen, but going to a place of work each day liking no one?

I have a mindset; you may not like what you do, but if your colleagues enchancing the quality of the workplace, you can tolerate what you do. Otherwise, it would be kinda torture.

I eel quite a lot of people are getting tortured! :D

It is a world of sacrifice.

This topic reminds me of my all time favorite manga Berserk. It is about a man with a great ambition. To achieve his goal he had to sacrifice everything he had.

At some point sacrifice becomes not worth it- we lose as much(or more) than we gain.

To achieve his goal he had to sacrifice everything he had.

I think that a lot of big achievers sacrifice what others are unwilling to give up. Many are unwilling to give up much at all.

But, where is that "not worth it" point? It can be hard to find, especially while achieving goals.

Often when you have money, it overshadows whether you are with the one you love or your work is something you love, that's why we often focus on the £€¥$ above all else.

Yes and then wonder why we are still unhappy, even though we have "everything" w
we want.

what most of us are doing in this life, are choosing to work for money to meet our living needs, at the expense of following what we actually want to do.

This is really true and as human this is what majority experience on a daily basis trying to work to settle or solve every necessities that is needed to be cleared.

A life of making ends meet, but is it a life of living?

Folks stay in jobs they don't like, yes. They need the money, but that are a slave to their fear of change. They are too afraid to go after their dreams. They may not believe in themselves enough or perhaps it is low self-esteem. They are smart enough to do the daily routine work, yet dumb enough to not move forward. They are employees or self- employed. They are not investors or entrepreneurs. They may have dreams but they are day dreams rather than visions and they have not invested in themselves. They have chosen to be a slave to the system and a slave to their boss.

Very interesting! I was just recently thinking about this difference between being just active or productive...but that this even as an influence on your sleep in that way is an observation I havent made yet (Ill pay attention to it:)
and indeed it is only a matter how to phrase it, and everything has a price, I liked the way you put that into words. shocking indeed but initiates some very interesting thoughts and questions...

You asked some good questions and I would probably need to write a blog post to reply to them all. But, what we are willing to do for money is a an important question these days. The crypto world has turned the world of finance upside down and everyone is questioning the idea of money itself.

In my personal life I'm starting to view all forms of energy as currency. Time is obviously a currency, morality is currency, trust is currency, health is currency, and so forth. If we sacrifice any of these things for money, which is arguably the lowest form of currency, then we're going into debt, while convincing ourselves that we're getting rich. Just my two cents! Have a great day! ☀️
