I remember the first time I came across the basic “Four Temperaments” in the book titled “Why you act the way you do “ written by Tim Lahaye, I was about Sixteen years old and was battling Low self esteem and Self acceptance.
I didn’t know why I was different from my friends and even my siblings until I came across the book mentioned earlier, someone gifted the book to my sister, I guess it was her boyfriend then, but she didn’t develop interest in the book I guess it is because it was so different from the love novels she preferred reading.
After going through a couple of pages in the book I began to understand myself better and also “why I act the way I do”, I learnt about the four basic temperaments which are (Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholy and Phlegmatic) I also learnt that an individual can possess two or more temperament in different ratios.
Gradually I started to embrace myself as I learnt about the strength my temperament possess which was true, but I got scared when I saw the weakness my temperament possess which was also very correct about myself, I became jealous of other temperaments and wish I could change my temperament. Lol but I felt a huge relief later when I discovered that other temperaments also have their weaknesses.
I worked on strengthening my strength the more, I didn’t ignore my weakness rather I started to work on them too and also figured out ways to improve my weakness, I won’t say it has been easy but I’ll say it is worth it.
Now people who meet me see a very handsome strong man with a healthy self esteem and self image/ confidence, they thought I was born this way little did they know that I put in a lot of work to become the man I am now and I’m also putting lots of work to become a better man tomorrow.
Apart from developing myself with the knowledge I learnt about the temperaments, I also learnt how to use my knowledge about the temperament to relate with different people, there were certain people I disliked, the knowledge of the temperaments helped me understand “why they act the way they do” since it’s a weakness their temperament possess.
There were certain people I liked and tried to act like them but the knowledge of the temperament helped me realise that it was the strength their temperaments possess that made them act that way.
It helped me understand relatives, my parents, siblings, friends and even my employer. I was able to notice people temperaments from certain behaviour they exhibit then I had an idea on how to approach them and also relate with them including my course mates and co-workers at work.
Have you read the book about temperaments “Why you act the way you do”? By Tim Lahaye? Let me know what you think about it and do you also know your temperament? Please comment how knowing your temperament has contributed to your personal development.. Thanks for reading.
