This girl was 12, is that the toymaker's fault?
No, I think it was the parent's. Who can raise a 12 year old that's that incompetent? I'm also tempted to use the "when I was X age, I was way more responsible" example, and for a long time, I didn't, telling myself that not everyone grew up as I did. But at the same time, why should that matter? Obviously, in this case, the 12-year-old's parents were doing something wrong, so maybe they should be made to feel bad for it by parents who didn't screw up so bad.
I noticed through the comments here talk of @smallsteps growing up to be different, but if you ask me, that's good. Everyone I meet grew up "the same", and it doesn't seem to have done them many favors. Most young people my age are lost, confused, and highly infantile. So maybe it's good for her to grow up different ;)
