Low Breastmilk Supply. How I Boosted My Milk Production. Fast.

in Motherhood3 years ago (edited)

I would like to share my story and dedicate this post to all mothers who don’t produce enough breastmilk for their babies.

When my daughter was 5 months old, my body suddenly stopped producing enough breastmilk. I was not sure why it was. I tried to boost my supply by eating more oats, oat milk, garlic, fresh funnel and drinking more water. It didn’t help. Nothing changed. I pumped every 2 hours but frequent power pumping was not helping either. My baby wanted more milk and I didn’t have it.

I bought Munchkin breastmilk cookies which were absolutely delicious and my milk production was boosted already on the next day. But Munchkin cookies are expensive, around £10-17 depending on the size pack, and I went through them quickly.

I decided to try herbal nursing tea for breastfeeding mothers. All natural ingredients, the box contained 40 tea bags and the price was just under £6. I wanted to compare both products. My milk production was boosted on the next day and after a few days I started even storing extra milk in the freezer. What I like about this tea, unlike cookies it is sugar free, so I am not worried putting on extra weight. I use/recycle the same bag 3-4 times, so this product lasts longer. Ingredients include: Goat's Rue - Herb 30%, Lemon Balm Herb (20%), Fennel - Fruit (20%), Cummin - Fruit, Anice - Fruit. So it’s plant based and the country of origin is ‎Czech Republic.

It tastes like a herbal tea, nothing fancy. It’s good to drink with cookies or any other snack of your choice.

My advice to those mothers who are experiencing low milk supply is to try these methods first before looking for a milk donor or start buying baby formula. Your own milk is the BEST food for your baby. It’s not only a health/ hygiene issue here, it’s also a right content/antibodies that you are giving to your baby. You are the mother and your body knows what your baby needs.

Please note, to boost your milk production, you need to drink more water. Twice as much as you would normally drink, e.g. drink for 2. 90% of breastmilk is water.

It’s not a promotion of any sort. My intention is to inspire and help to those who are looking for a solution. I am not including any links, however, below how the product looks like:

Do your own search and choose any brands you think is right for you. I bought this nursing tea which works for me.

It has been 2 weeks since I started drinking nursing tea. My freezer is full, I have no space to store more bags of breastmilk milk. I am producing way more than my baby needs, so I am planning to stop from now on.

Stay safe and healthy

The biggest advice my doctor told me was to stick the baby to the boob the sucking will make the production grow.

It’s a good suggestion and solution, Victoria. Thank you for mentioning. I presume it is very time consuming though. I usually express milk into a bottle and give it to my daugther. It’s a quicker process. Although, I agree with you, skin-to-skin breastfeeding is a good and effective solution to boost milk production.
