Schools are suppose to be a safe space for students but sometimes it's one of the most dangerous place to be.

A lot of times you hear heart breaking things that happen in school, and some experiences you hear children face can be very disheartening, we see school students being killed, beaten like animals, and raped and in the end, nothing is done.

When you speak about things like this, people would always think that it happened in the university but sadly, these things happen in secondary schools also and it makes me wonder if these schools don't have supervisors, hostel teachers, securities and school authorities and what is the point of sending your kids to school if they cannot be protected.

Recently we heard about a school student being beaten and given a substance to drink in school which ended his life because he refused to join a cult and it reminds me of my younger brother's story in boarding school and it made me think to myself that it could have been my brother who lost his life because I knew what my brother went through in that school.

My brother was sent to a boarding school in a different state in Jss 1 when he was 13years old and very naive, and so many things happened to him; he was beaten, bullied, and had his provisions, food, clothes, toiletries taken from him by his fellow students

He was punished, chained to the bed and was told to knee down on stones as punishment, he kept on complaining about it to our parents but they thought he didn't just like the school, then finally one night while he was sleeping, a student poured hot kerosene that was inside a lamp on him, his body was badly burnt, and he had to be rushed to the hospital and that was when my parents saw what was done to him and realized all he was saying was the truth and he was removed immediately from the school.

The rate of bullying in schools these days are ridiculous and it is scary as an expectant mother to even imagine bringing up a child in these situations.

It is very vital as parents and guidance to learn to communicate properly with our children and also learn to listen to them because you could just be saving your child's life.

In the end, it is sad that a child had to lose his life for people to start talking about bullying and I pray that his death is avenged.
