Live broadcast from Kyiv, or a diary to the sound of explosions.
The phone keeps reminding me of what I did a year ago, two years ago, three years ago this day. It is now impossible to make out which of this is reality and which is a dream. Either the whole life that had existed before February 24, 2022 was just a sweet dream, or everything that has been happening after that is a nightmare. Life has been divided into "before" and "after".
War really takes all the masks off people. It becomes clear who has what values, who has what fears, how much composure people can keep and what their weaknesses are. Every day we go out for groceries, trying to find something that can be stored for a long time. My mother-in-law is very afraid of the blockade of Kyiv. Honestly, I feel the same and am also afraid of the dark times in the capital. But it is important to remain humans and not sweep everything off the shelves, especially inexpensive products. There may be people around who need them much more.
Since the beginning of the war, many residents of our area decided to leave the city. There are 2 couples and several elderly single women left in our house. One of them is non-mobile - she can only move around the apartment with the help of a special chair. My husband and I go shopping every day, trying to buy bread, some meat, some vegetables to bring to our neighbors. The hardest thing is getting milk and dairy products now. I hope it was only yesterday, because all the people were frying pancakes, because yesterday was the last day of Masliana.
I've noted that many small businesses and shops near the house have opened, are working and sometimes even have a better assortment than chain supermarkets. I was born and raised in independent Ukraine and in my conscious memory I never needed anything - you just buy everything you need. Everything was always available. I never thought I'd have trouble buying potatoes in the 21st century.
I want to believe that there will be no interruptions in the supply of essential goods in the capital. At least the mood of the townspeople is quite positive and stable. Although the disturbing sounds that come from the suburbs - Bucha, Hostomel, Irpin, Vorzel - do not let you relax for a second. However, we keep believing in our valiant Armed Forces!

So true! Under pressure and a lot of stress people truly reveal what they are made of. It is so kind and considerate to think of others in times of distress. Compassion toward fellow humans is a challenge during war times. History has shown how some humans lost their humanity in war. You have my admiration and my moral support. God is with you , Hive is with you and you are never alone 🤗
I agree it's very important to stay humans. There are people out there who feel much worse than I do or are in much higher danger. I have no choice but help them, because someone out there helps my family, too. This is the only way we can all survive and win.
Helping others is of paramount importance, I am so happy to read about the people who offered a hand in difficult times. During a war it is even more admirable as many would be tempted to think of themselves as a way of surviving
As it actually turns out, being together is the best way to survive.
I really admire your self-lessness at such a time. The fact that you think about the other vulnerable people in your community at such a time is a true testament to your character. I have met other Ukrainians here in Germany who escaped the war who have showed me the same level of compassion and solidarity. It is inspiring. Proud to be a part of a European Cultural with such a stalwart group of people in it. Slava Ukraini
It is inspiring and it can restore the faith in humanity as many people have a gentle soul even in the worst circumstances. True character.
War also shows the worse in people, it's true. I've seen so many nice examples of human kindness over the past days, but also some examples of undignified behavior. What I'm seeing though is that the light outweighs the darkness after all. And I believe my nation will survive. I didn't even realize how many bright, intelligent, courageous people my country has.
Even in the worst circumstances there will be people who will prove to be good humans, with excellent character. I will always choose to believe there is good in people.Always.
Glad to hear that. People actually worry a lot about each other, even strangers, now. Unfortunately, woes unite people, this is what I know for sure now. But I like the way most of Ukrainians tries to cope. Makes me feel even prouder of my country.
