I think that Scotland will gain independence eventually. The trend of the future will be smaller and smaller nations, even though some idiots desire 'one world government'.
I think the closer you are to your ruler, the more chance you can slap them in the face when they eventually deserve it. I try to rule myself and you'd be surprised how often I need a good slap. ;)
No state can rule forever by suppressing the minorities in it. Especially if these minorities were able to preserve their own culture. As you say, I don't think it's far from the Scottish independence. Even Wales and Northern Ireland will join it.
I would ask any idiot who came up with the idea of a single world government: How will you make the citizens of countries with a per capita income of $100,000 a year live in the same country as people with a per capita income of $500 per year? Apart from their language, culture and appearance, these people's educational values and morals will (naturally) be very different from each other. its integration is impossible, even if possible, I am sure that our lifetime will not be enough.
