Navidad, el símbolo que creamos (Es-En)

Hola amigos de #Greenzone, hoy mi Pincelada XV trae una contradicción simbólica, artística y cultural. Ya que estamos en Navidad pues deseo contarles algo que por mucho tiempo me rondó en la mente.

¿Por qué Santa Claus es hombre si su nominativo es femenino?. Y por supuesto prejuiciada por el empoderamiento del machismo, aún desde el seno de la mujer y la familia pues pensé que Santa Claus fue una figura femenina, cuya imagen trascendió por su magia y bondad.

La figura de Santa Claus se fundamenta en San Nicolás de Myra, un obispo cristiano del siglo IV, histórico y masculino. Su transformación folclórica, especialmente en países protestantes como Alemania, Países Bajos e Inglaterra, consolidó un personaje paterno y benevolente. Estos roles tradicionalmente eran asignados a lo entes masculinos en esas sociedades.

El nombre Santa Claus deriva del neerlandés Sinterklaas", abreviatura de Sint-Nicolaas. Aunque Santa puede asociarse al femenino en español, aquí funciona como apócope de santo. Así, su género no lo determina la gramática, sino su origen histórico y la construcción cultural de un símbolo navideño patriarcal.

Y el nombre podía generar confusión pero no podía haber dudas del sentido patriarcal de la humanidad, La barba larga y blanca funciona como un símbolo transcultural de autoridad del hombre. En numerosas tradiciones, representa la edad, la experiencia acumulada y la sabiduría, atributos históricamente asociados y reservados a los patriarcas, chamanes, dioses o reyes varones. Es un distintivo visual de jerarquía y solemnidad.

En figuras como Papá Noel, Dios o los sabios de relatos fantásticos, esta barba no denota solo vejez, sino una benevolencia paternalista y un poder incuestionable. Así, el símbolo refuerza un arquetipo donde el liderazgo, la guía espiritual y la generosidad suprema tienen rostro y barba, masculina.

Aquí otra de las disyuntivas desde niña, ¿eran dos hombres viejos con barbas, bondadosos y benevolente?. Luego en mi viaje a Francia, por la curiosidad de la niña Lea, su padre me explicó que aunque hoy designan al mismo personaje, su origen es distinto. Papá Noel proviene del francés Père Noël y se difundió en el mundo hispano. Santa Claus deriva del neerlandés Sinterklaas, evolucionado en el mundo anglosajón.

La diferencia radica en la tradición cultural que los moldeó: la versión latina es más etérea, mientras la anglosajona, popularizada por Coca-Cola y el cine, estandarizó su imagen actual (traje rojo, trineo, renos). Se usan indistintamente por la globalización cultural, donde el ícono anglosajón absorbió y unificó diversas regiones navideñas europeas, haciendo de ambos nombres sinónimos de un único símbolo universal.

Nada, que no pierdo las esperanzas que en algunos de estos siglos la imagen navideña sea el propio Jesús o una imagen femenina, la hermosa mujer de rostro dulce y sonriente, la Virgen María que nos concedió el mayor regalo; marcando un antes y un después en el desarrollo de la humanidad.

Why is Santa Claus a man if his nominative is feminine? And, of course, prejudiced by the empowerment of machismo, even from within women and the family, I thought that Santa Claus was a female figure whose image transcended due to her magic and kindness.

The figure of Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas of Myra, a 4th-century Christian bishop, historical and male. His folkloric transformation, especially in Protestant countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and England, consolidated a paternal and benevolent character. Thus, the symbol reinforces an archetype where leadership, spiritual guidance, and supreme generosity have a masculine face and beard.

Here's another dilemma from my childhood: were they two old, kind, and benevolent men with beards? Later, on my trip to France, due to little Lea's curiosity, her father explained to me that although they designate the same character today, their origin is different. Papá Noel comes from the French Père Noël and spread in the Hispanic world. Santa Claus derives from the Dutch Sinterklaas, evolving in the Anglo-Saxon world.

They are used interchangeably due to cultural globalization, where the Anglo-Saxon icon absorbed and unified various European Christmas traditions, making both names synonymous with a single universal symbol.

Oh well, I haven't lost hope that in one of these centuries the Christmas image will be Jesus himself or a feminine image, the beautiful woman with a sweet and smiling face, the Virgin Mary, who granted us the greatest gift; marking a before and after in the development of humanity.
