I know my way around Comic Books. I've had a Comic Book Store since 1992 and I've read since then around 15-20 issues per week, mostly to be able to sell those titles to my customers and to make them fall in love with the stories so they become avid readers and thus, avid buyers.
This is a new section of my blog where I'll make some comic book reviews and recommend some titles to anyone reading my entries.
Captain America is one of those titles that, while never a leader in sales or fans, has a lot of stories worthy of readinf and that, fortunately, are still available in your comic book local store.
Captain America has had incredible moments. Since the early days with their creators Joe Simon y Jack Kirby. With a renewed and refreshed story with Stan Lee y Jack Kirby, after that, a short season with the art of John Romita Sr. and, in a more modern era, with creative writers like J.M. DeMatteis, Mike Zeck, Mark Gruenwald, Ron Lim, Mark Waid, Ron Garney, Ed Brubacker, Steve Epting and several others that are still worthy of a read, but I can't recall.
Those I mentioned are probably the "Golden" and "Silver" era of the Cap, at least story wise.
One of my favorite seasons and also one of the shortest ones due to a bad editorial decision was the season by
Roger Stern y John Byrne, two of the most respected creators in the comic book world. Together, they offered one of the best stories in a single title in MArvel. Even though they were involved just from #247 to #255, Stern y Byrne made a great distilled of the esence of Captain America.
If you have the chance and the interest, you should read it, full recommendation.
