The Comedy Open Mic Newsletter - Quick Update + Future Comment Contest

Greetings

As the Comedy Open Mic community (COM) continues to grow we feel a clear relationship is required between us as admins, curators, moderators, and members of this COMmunity to ensure we don't have any problems going forward.

In this post, we will quickly cover a few points to keep you all updated

Growth

If you read @ocdb's latest OCD Communities Incubation Program Update you'd know that despite having a little over 600 members, our COMmunity ranks high in terms of interactions, surpassing communities with over 6 thousand members.

We would like to thank all our members for their interactions as it shows real growth. Interactions are key to any community's success and essential to its growth and we have the best members. That's why we're planning a weekly contest that is comments-focused.

Whose Line Is It Anyway(WLIIA): COM Edition

This will be our weekly comments contest, every Saturday. The contest will be inspired by the American improvisational comedy television show which is inspired by a British show of the same name.

The show has many categories and mini-games which we believe are adaptable into a comment contest. We will be trying it for the next 5 weeks and see if it proves more sustainable.

There are other ideas that be tried out in between.

A song lyrics, a movie, or a character description will be copied from Wikipedia or IMDB and put into translation between at least 20 languages before it gets put in front of you to guess what it is describing.

Group Comedy War

@ckole had this interesting suggestion and we will look deeper into it with him but here is what it is so far.

Well said and understood. The clarification really pointed out what and what not to do when composing comedy content on the platform. The integrity really matters.

As per the suggestions, I'm thinking we can have a "group comedy war". The comedians would be divided into strata by the admin and the moderators randomly. Each group would present a person as the group representative. A topic would be chosen by the admin for the comedy ( maybe an argumentative comedy where one part would be in support or against). If we have 10 groups, for instance, 5 will be in support and the other 5 against. And they must all post at the same time to avoid cheating( rule must be followed)

Then the group members would engage in the comment section to argue further and long as they can leaving the room lively. The intention is to unite active posters and also have fun.

@ckole admits that the idea isn't fully formed yet but it will be looked into.

This is just a raw idea. One or two points can be picked from it to develop or add to other ideas. It might not necessarily be implemented.

Without Repetition

A topic will be picked and people will be asked to describe it with no less than 100 words will win. The only catch will be that the description can't have a single word repeated. If more than one person does this successfully within 24 hours of posting the winner will be picked based on the following criteria:

  • Description accuracy

  • Quality of the description

  • How funny the description is

  • The length of the description

That's it for Today

Pick which of the suggestions is your favorite and also feel free to share any ideas you might have. The rewards of this contest will depend on how much support we get. The same goes for how many categories we could have per contest.

We realize that some of these ideas may sound stupid and we accept any criticism you may have but our goal is to try and entertain our members as much as we can. There's also the possibility of hosting a comedy show with rewards in the future.

Thank You For Reading

I have a suggestion. A post with a word prompt or image prompt should be given and the members would make funny comments about them and they would interact with each other as well

Amber had a nice suggestion here, this way, the community would be more entertaining, lively and smooth 🤗

Whose Line Is It Anyway(WLIIA) is basically that.

I am also trying to avoid stepping on Memes' territory

🤔🤔🙄

I think @ckole has a good idea here. This will be better. The way the groups will be arranged is what I can't really figure out. I think user's comments here would determine.

Nice idea...

Hehe seems like comedy war is going to be the real war for jesters. Well, I supper the group coordination and topic suggestion 😁 hopefully it would spread the more quick and unique giggles 🌀

I think the two suggestions are cool but how will the group be arranged? Is there going to be an interaction on discord to know which group a person belongs?

I also have the similar question in mind

Which means we're on the same page. Hehehe

See? You and @amberkashif already formed a group lol!

In seriousness, yes, that's what I am planning to ckole and the team about. Until the group activities are achievable we'll aim for the individual ones.

Great!😁

Looking forward to the final decisions

All three suggestions are cool tho and would be a good starting point. The only thing now is to define the fine lines and implement. Perhaps we could also explore a contest for visual content

It's still sketchy to me...I don't get the full picture...but I'm hoping it'll be clearer as it starts to be implemented...

These experiments are interesting, and we should wish them every success. Participation will be essential.

This is great. This Community is an interesting one. I always have a good time here. I am glad about the interactions. I will try my best to add to that.
I am look forward to the 'Without Repition ' exercise. I think that will be really fun. I really like the idea.
Nice piece.

Sorry, I'm just responding to this. I've been ill for the past one week and haven't blogged since. Just coming back.

Thank for looking into the idea. I think we can deliberate on it to know the best way it can be implemented.

The other ideas are also cool. They would all go a long way in boosting the platform. Thanks.

A mí me fascina leer las historias traviesas que se cuentan en esta comunidad y comentar y votar, pero hoy lamentablemente, no he tenido ocasión debido a que internet está muy mal por mi zona.
