30 DAY CHALLENGE: Ten favorite foods (Day 10)

in Blogging Challenge4 years ago

Fawaka (whatsup) everyone! It's me again 24 hours later...missed me?

Today I have one of the hardest questions to answer so far to be honest.. this is because I am from Suriname and we have the BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD. And yes.. I guess you can feel it coming from my energy already. I AM A FOODIE!

I will try to keep this as short as possible while choosing my 10 favorite foods so far (Keep in mind this is so hard for me to do). I had my own cooking "show" as well on YouTube which is called "TJAPPEN" in which I make a lot of Surinamese, Chinese, Italian and many more type of dishes especially for students in the Netherlands who don't know how to cook. (I'll drop a link to one down below).

Lets start foodies!

Here are my ten favorite foods! p.s. These are not in a specific order (Just what comes to mind at the moment).

  • "Bruine bonen": This is just "brown beans" with chicken, sausage, unions, tomatoes, pepper etc. (Surinamese people know). This is a dish that almost never goes wrong and the more left-overs you put in there (especially BBQ meat) the better it becomes in my opinion! With some cucumber on acid on the side and sweet bananas (fully Surinamese styling) that's the best way to eat it if you ask me! In my video below you can go to my video on YouTube, where I make a delicious Surinamese style "Bruine Bonen".

  • Chinese food (I will do this one as a whole, because if I need to call out the exact dishes, I won't be done with this blog for another 2 months. I like all the dishes that the Chinese cuisine has to offer. If we have to talk about soups than you have to try out: Corn soup with chicken, wonton soup, dumpling soup, seafood soup and the ultimate Chinese soup called "Yok Soy soup". These are amazing soups and I definitely recommend them to you guys! There are so many amazing dishes that I am just getting really hungry thinking about them! Don't forget a good orange chicken or an amazing "Tjaumin" (Noodles) as we call it with "Bigi meti nanga tjing meti" (big and small pieces of meat in it).

  • BBQ: I can eat BBQ for you all day long ! I love it even more when we just make it at home (SO FRESH). We always make chicken, pork and some sort of steak...oh yeah don't forget the Smokey joes (Sausages). I really love BBQ because we do it with the family (which makes it even more fun). Me, my brother and my dad built a BBQ in the garden a few years ago (made of bricks). And we use that to BBQ every time that we go and visit Suriname again. Usually I stand behind the BBQ to prepare the meat. (YES SORRY I AM A MEAT LOVER GUYS). My mom always makes awesome salads with the BBQ (Which are my girlfriend her favorite salads by the way). If you ever want to surprise me in the middle of the night or just during the day, bring me some BBQ and you will be in my top 10 friends list for the rest of my life hahah!

  • Alfredo pasta: I like pasta a lot and I can eat all different kinds of pasta for you. But my favorite is still alfredo pasta with mushrooms, a bit of spice and a creamy sauce! I like it with shrimp, chicken or with beef (steak) in the pasta. And yes I like penne pasta or tagliatelle with alfredo pasta (AND ENOUGH CHEESE). So if you ever think about bringing me pasta, make sure that it has these things in there haha LOTS OF LOVE! Italians do know their stuff...p.s. pizza is also life, but I won't be talking about that in this blog.

  • Lasagna: Oh so you thought I was done? NOPE. I can make a damn delicious lasagna and I usually make two versions (a vegetarian one and one with beef). I'm thinking about making it right now that's how good it tastes. I won't be sharing my secret recipe on here but I can make it for some of you that know me very well (Lets plan in an Italian cooking day in Rotterdam, so that we can have some fun and meet up with one another). Who is bringing the wine?

  • Hamburgers: I will keep this one simple for you guys. I can eat this the whole day long for you with some fries or just one burger with 5 more next to it hahaha. BURGERS ARE LIFE. I like me a juicy, medium done burger with cheese, lettuce, unions and some jalapenos, that's just some of the good stuff on there. I have made a video on my YouTube channel about a burger (if I am correct) so feel free to check that out! My favorite places to get burgers are: at home (because those are the one's that taste the best). By the way grilled/bbq burgers are way better than burgers that are made in a hot pan (just a tip for some of you).
  • Fried Chicken: I am not kidding I really made NFC (Niguel Fried Chicken). Check it out on my YouTube channel! You can wake me up at 2 in the morning and I would eat a bucket of fried chicken for you! My favorite fried chicken is from Popeyes (too bad that they don't have that in the Netherlands. Or maybe it's good because then all my stuffi would have gone to Popeyes. In Suriname I like Popeyes a lot and I enjoy Naskip a lot as well (those are the only 2 fried chicken places that are heaven to me. KFC is alright but meh... gives me stomach aches every single time. The best thing to do is to simply make your own fried chicken like I did below: SUPER EASY AND SUPER GOOD!
  • Curry Duck: This is one of the first things that I always eat in Suriname. I just love the taste of curry duck and I can't get enough of it. When it has enough pepper it's even better! With a good ROTI from someone who has made it at home is just something that tastes like heaven ( I am sure it does). I just really like masala/curry in general and in Suriname they know how to make it like the best! Make sure to at least try "Roti kip" on time and try a "Bara" on the side. I think you will like the food a lot! I even have a video on how to make a masala chicken, so if you are game to make a dish like that, feel free to follow me on my YouTube channel and check out the video below:
  • Dim sum: I think a lot of you know this already, this is simply Chinese breakfast. I LOVE THIS. Because you can taste a lot of different things if you share the meals with 4-5 people at a time. You have things like: dumplings, saw mai, chicken feet, sea shells, spring rolls, saw paws, "flensjes with chicken, beef or shrimp", ho-foen with beef, mi-foen and many more! The list goes on and on! I just want to go and eat that tomorrow for breakfast hahaha, don't forget your chopsticks and your green tea guys!

  • Indo-food ("Javaans from the Warung"): This last one should speak for itself. When you go to Suriname make sure to visit "blauwgrond" and make sure to eat a "Bami" and a "saoto" don't forget to ask for extra soy (ketjap) and don't forget to take some friend sweet bananas (bakabana) which means baked banana. My favorite indo meal is Nasi rames. This consist of yellow rice, brown rice, noodles (bami), chicken (on the bbq or baked in an indo-sauce), an egg, gudanang (I hope I am pronouncing it well) it's something spicy with coconot pieces on there and it has a delicious "sate" as well on there. Which is sort of a BBQ chicken kabab. You will love this dish believe me! The original is given in a leaf.
