30 days Blogging Challenge Day 11: Your favorite childhood book.

in Blogging Challenge4 years ago

My favorite childhood book is not really a book more of a book series. I can't really remember that I had a favorite.

Confession:
I was today years old that I found out that the books are based on the works from an English writer: Enid Blyton. I also did not know that the books in dutch got a different cover and title.

So my favorite childhood book series is named The Five find outers, which I found out myself a few minutes ago😅, as I know the book series as:
"De Vijf Detectives" which would be "The Five Detectives" in English. After the (I think Sixth) book, it continues as The Five or De Vijf. I have read 12.5 of the 15 (the last 3 are rebranded and after secondary school)

I must admit that I am confused because as a kid I always thought that the writer was a dutch woman. Not that It would take anything away from the book series. But the different used font tricked me into thinking that she was Dutch. As you can see on the cover of the books that I used to read, It looks like the name is Enid Blijton which seems more Dutch.

Ah well, maybe an old case of "Font marketing".

I really enjoyed the series from age 8 till 11.

The Five follows (surprise!) 5 kids from the same neighborhood during their vacation, in which they always have to solve a mystery. These mysteries had to be solved while competing against their local police officer who hated them because he badly wants a promotion in his force. Each of the 5 kids has a personality that sounds familiar to yours and makes you automatically gravitate towards that character. My favorite was Frederick, who is the more outside-of-the-box thinker of their crew. And more on the heavy side, just like me at the time. As I (like a lot of boys during that age) wanted to be a detective myself the books were very interesting to me.

The is another series where the kids are older, but that one failed to grab me as Marvel comics, the Mortal Kombat 3 game, and Dragonball Z became more interesting to me.
