Cape Town, Waterfront - Nobel Park in the Dry Dock District

in Worldmappin2 days ago

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa. Just dropping another pin on my Worldmappin map!

This time it is of the Dry Dock District in the Waterfront.

This place is not to be confused with the Sturrock Dry Dock where I work. The Waterfront is a tourist destination with hotels, restaurants, curio shops and all sorts of sights to see.

There is, however, a working Dry Dock for smaller vessels and I have seen a vessel or two in that area. I can imagine that the kind of work they do there will be restricted when it comes to noise and welding out in the open. The risk to the public would be too great.

I am probably not going to label every single photo... maybe I will, but we shall see... haha. Above is a map of the area. As you can see, even if you had all day, you probably could not see it all in one day. There is so much to see and do here.

This picture is of mid morning in the off-peak times where it is still quiet. If you come at a busy time then the whole area is full of people.

Down that way there is a drawbridge that opens and closes for ships/boats/yachts to go through and connects the Quays District and the Clock Tower District.

This is the Drydock's gate, now closed and with a fenced walkway across, Table Mountain in the background.

Here you can see a part of the Dry Dock. I think by its construction that it must be very old. Proper cranes working here so as I say. It is functional.

Here the entrance to what is not the Time Out Market. It used to have another name and was basically a food market. Inside there are a bunch of food stalls and restaurants with a communal sitting area.

Seems there is entertainment in the place as well.

Then there is an area with some statues. Some are very recognizable. I don't need to label these since I took photos of the lables!

I don't know if this will be legible to everyone but basically this gives some history about "Nobel Square" This is because all four of those people have received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Another statue. I did not take a picture of its descriptor.

From this viewpoint on the left at the bottom there are pubs and a huge shopping centre. At the top there is another monument and what I think is a hotel.

There is another building in the front here. I am not use what it is used for today. I remember going in there as a kid. It was a tourist information center.

There are some old buildings here getting some work done on them. I don't think they are being heavily modernized because there is a drive to keep old buildings looking as authentic and original as possible. It might be a Heritage Building.

And there we have it!

Thank you for joining me on this quick little tour of the Waterfront!

Cheers!
