The Majestic Thermal Spa of Saturnia || Cascate del Mulino || Italy

in Worldmappin2 years ago (edited)

Hii all! I'm currently on a roadtrip with my campervan in Southern Europe. In my stories I will take you along to the most beautiful places of Europe and give you a little view into the good and the bad of vanlife.

Last blog I showed you around Milan. The actual plan was to drive all the way south to Puglia, until I saw this bucket list destination: Cascate del Mulino. It is also known as Terme di Saturnia and definitely worth a visit.

This stunning place can be found near Saturnia, in the south of Tuscany, about 2,5 hours north of Rome. It is not easily accessible by public transport so renting a car might be the best. There is plenty of parking space near the hotspring but only for cars and bikes. There is a special parking nearby for campers which is part of the campsite just around the corner. It is called Sosta camper Saturnia. That's where we decided to park so we also had a shower and toilet for the night. The internetconnection on our sim was not that good, but good enough for my online job.

Cascate del Mulino is a Majestic hotspring, located in Tuscany, Italy. The name Cascate del Mulino is Italian for waterfall of the mill, since back in the days there used to be a mill located next to the waterfall. Now there is only an empty building next to the thermal falls, But the look of the building definitely adds up to the atmosphere.

After arriving, we went - ofcourse- to the Cascate di Mulino. The limestone pools are having a magical blue hue, and it seems like it could be a movie set as beautiful and magical as it looks. And you know what's the sweet surprise? It is actually a hot spring! The thermal springs of sulphurous water water is almost 40 degrees and stays this warm all year around. Even on a not so hot, moody day like today it is a great place to relax. The smell of the water is not the most pleasant, but a shower afterward will make it vanish.

The water flows underground from Monte Amiata all the way to the precious hot springs of Saturnia, along the way, the water gets enriched with gases and minerals which give the hotsprings their health benefits, mainly for the skin. The Hotspring is 100% natural and it is free to enter, 24/7 open 365 days a year. So whenever you visit Rome, this natural Thermal Spa is waiting for you!

It is possible to walk from the entrance up or down, but it isn't that easy as the stones are a little sharp. It might be comfortable to wear water shoes. The first time I walked barefoot, the second time I used my shower slippers, which were quite a lot more comfortable. But you can also just sit down in the nearest pool, close your eyes and relax!

Ohh and before I forget, sulphur can oxidise the metal of your jewellery, so better take all your jewellery off if you don't want to damage them :)

A second advice I want to give: go early if you want the place for yourself. I went early in the morning, because the place is no secret anymore for Italians. Especially in the weekend, it can get crowded. We visited the place on a Saturday.

Thank you for reading my story! I hope to share my next blog soon, with some more details about the van, the good stuff and the bad stuff and whatever. If you want, you can follow me along in my journey :)

Regards,
Sascha

So cool!! Your trip seems to be chill and super free, and that landscape, I guess in the real life is something difficult to believe as a real thing. It seems to be a kinda movie place.

Yeahh it was really Beautiful! But I must say that I went very early in the morning to avoid people :) It was in the weekend and kinda near Rome so many locals go here for a weekend getaway.
