Hi @Worldmapinn Community, you know that we are always on the hunt for places that offer more than just a photo. We look for destinations that offer a reset button. On my recent journey through the "Friendly Heart of the Visayas," I found that reset button at Lakeside Camp Mabini.

A Town Named for a Hero
Before diving into the campsite itself, it’s important to understand the ground we’re standing on. The town of Mabini was once part of the larger municipalities of Talibon and Ubay. It gained its independence in the early 20th century and was named in honor of Apolinario Mabini, the "Brain of the Revolution" and the "Sublime Paralytic" a figure of quiet but undeniable strength.
Historically, Mabini has always been a place of resilience. While much of Bohol became famous for the Chocolate Hills or the white sand beaches of Panglao, Mabini quietly nurtured its rich agricultural and fishing heritage. The lake in Barangay Abaca isn’t just a scenic backdrop for selfies it has been the lifeblood of the local community for generations, providing water for the fields and a gathering place for families. Visiting Lakeside Camp Mabini means stepping into a living, breathing piece of Boholano history.
How to Get There: Your Roadmap to the Lake
Lakeside Camp Mabini is located in Barangay Abaca, Mabini, Bohol, approximately 100–110 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. Depending on your mode of transport, the journey takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Option 1: Public Transport (Budget-Friendly)
Head to Dao Integrated Bus Terminal: Next to Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City.
Take a Bus or Van bound for Ubay or Mabini: Fare is around Php 120–180.
Drop-off Point: Ask to be dropped at "Junction La Union" in Candijay or "Ka-Porsing" in Mabini.
Last Leg: Hire a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) to reach the campsite directly.
Pro Tip: The campsite offers a shuttle from La Union or Ka-Porsing, ranging from Php 50–200 per head depending on group size.
Option 2: Private Vehicle (Most Convenient)
Take the Bohol East Circumferential Road, passing scenic coastal towns like Baclayon, Loay, and Jagna. Most roads are well-paved, though the final stretch narrows. Look out for local signage leading to the campsite. Parking is available for Php 20.
Option 3: From Cebu
Take a ferry to Tagbilaran or a direct boat to Ubay. From Ubay port, Mabini is only a 30–40 minute van or bus ride away.
Know Before You Go: Start your journey around 12–1 PM to arrive by 3 PM. Bring cash no ATMs nearby and a power bank, as signal can be spotty deep in the hills.

Arriving at the Sweet Spot
We planned our visit strategically, arriving at 3 PM the ideal time for nature photographers and peaceseekers alike. The first thing that strikes you is the greenery. Rolling hills, reminiscent of the Chocolate Hills, drape themselves in a vibrant, year round emerald green. As we approached the lake, we spotted local carabaos enjoying the water. In Filipino culture, the carabao symbolizes hard work and persistence, and watching them rest felt like permission for us to do the same.
Camping Made Easy: Comfort in the Wild
For many, camping can be intimidating. Carrying tents, mats, and sleeping bags across the province isn’t easy but Lakeside Camp Mabini solves this. They offer well maintained rental setups with sturdy tents, comfortable mats, pillows, blankets, and even canopy options for protection against morning dew. First-timers can experience the thrill of sleeping under the stars without the stress of roughing it out.
The Logistics:
• Day Tour: Php 20 per person (Kids free)
• Overnight Camping: Php 200 per person
• Parking: Php 20
• Hours: Day tours 3 PM–9 PM; Overnight check-in 2 PM
Packing Essentials:

A Sunset That Mirrors the Soul
By 5:30 PM, the atmosphere shifted. The sky over Mabini painted itself in shades of violet, burnt orange, and soft pink. Facing the lake, the sunset’s reflection created a perfect double image, as if the heavens themselves were mirrored in the water. Sitting by the lake, enjoying a meal from the on site Kubo kitchen or a personal picnic feels like the ultimate reset. With no Wi-Fi to distract you, it’s just you, the shimmering water, and the emerging stars.
Whether you’re a photographer chasing the perfect shot, a family looking for a peaceful getaway, or a traveler simply seeking calm, Lakeside Camp Mabini offers more than just a destination it’s a pause button for your life.
So, pack your tent, bring your camera, and immerse yourself in the serene soul of Bohol. Mabini awaits, quiet yet unforgettable.
