Thien An Monastery - The old beauty covered by green pine forest

About 10km from the south of the city, Thien An Monastery is a catholic monastery located on a green pine hill in Hue city, Viet Nam. This place is known as a miniature Da Lat in Hue land. Today I will tell you about my trip to Thien An hill with the idyllic and silent beauty of the natural landscape in this place.

We started going on a lightly sunny afternoon, just as I originally planned, the destination was an old mansion located in the center of Hue city, but it was closed because of the covid-19 pandemic. Besides, the city hasn't yet welcomed tourists, so this place hasn't still open to welcoming visitors. With disappointments, we drive around the city looking for new destinations, after looking up the map for a while, I have a suggestion to Thien An monastery from my friend where have a green pine forest and cool air. I think it would be a good idea if we go to a pine forest in this fine weather. We started our next journey to a new place.

Where is Thien An Monastery?

For people who don't know the way to this place, from the center of the city along Dien Bien Phu street to the end of the road we turn right to Le Ngo Cat Street then to the road fork and turn left to Minh Mang street then go ahead to Khai Dinh street not far along this road you will see a direction board leading to the monastery. Because surrounding this road is quite sparse, I think finding the sign to enter this place isn't too difficult for newcomers.

Located on a high hill named Thien An hill, the road to this place is quite winding, around this road is a green pine forest with cool fresh air. Thien An Monastery is a place attractive tourist destination for many young people because of its beauty like the pine forests in Da Lat city.

The road covered with pine forest

For people who are new to Hue city and want to drive around in this mysterious ancient city, this is a place not to be missed. Pine forest covers the path leading to the monastery which creates a mysterious feeling that attracts people to go deep inside.

Come here you can stop at the monastery gate and walk around the road covered by the green pine forest. From the monastery go down to the foothills where have wide trees and green lawns. This place is suitable for a picnic on the outskirts of the city on weekends. In addition, there are several ancient relics located on both sides of the road leading to the monastery and now it's used as a resting place for tourists coming here.

The main area of Thien AN Monastery

The path to the Monastery is built with two main roads, you can go up by stairs road that is built by stone with one side is the rows of trees and some flower gardens are planted along below. The other side is a railing with square boxes with ancient architecture, I think inside it put lights that are used to light up at night. The second road parallel to the stairway is a steep path extending inside. This road is probably for vehicles to stop when coming to stay overnight at this place. You can go up from the path with steps and go down by the steep path to be able to see all the beauty on both sides.

This place was called Thien An means peace of heaven and earth, built-in 1938 and this is also the second monastery built after the first monastery was built in Da Lat named Bien Duc Monastery. Thien An Monastery with the unique beauty of Asian architecture. In front of the church are religious symbols, and next to it is a tall tower highlighting the religious beauty in the wild mountains here. Around the monastery are green lawns with a large ancient tree that has existed for a long time. From the top of the monastery, you can look down on the city through the green vegetation and the fog shrouding the bottom of the hill.

Thien An Monastery is an ancient church that has a lifespan of nearly a hundred years, experiencing the destruction of many wars and many closures, this place still retains the intact beauty of ancient architecture along with nature dreamy, fresh, cool atmosphere. For me, This is a great destination for picnics on the weekend to admire the quiet nature and green pine forests. In addition, this is also the right place to take pictures of beautiful nature like the miniature Da Lat in the ancient capital.
