Tried To Cool Off In The Forest [ENG-TUR]

Those who live in Istanbul have been experiencing extremely hot weather for over two weeks now. It is almost impossible to stay at home or at work without air conditioning. Particularly on weekends when it is that hot, people want to go to the sea or the forest to cool off. I haven’t started my sea season in Istanbul yet. Also, since entrance to the forested areas in Istanbul is prohibited until October 15, we can’t go to any forest we want. In this case, our only alternative was the Taşdelen Recreation Area in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul.

İstanbul’da iki haftadan uzun bir süredir aşırı sıcak hava etkili oluyor. Neredeyse evde veya iş yerinde klimasız durmak mümkün değil. Özellikle haftasonu böyle havalarda insan serinlemek için ya denize ya da ormana gitmek istiyor. İstanbul’da henüz deniz sezonumu açmadım. Ayrıca, İstanbul’da ormanlık alanlara giriş 15 Ekim tarihine kadar yasaklandığı için istediğimiz ormana da gidemiyoruz. Bu durumda tek alternatifimiz, İstanbul’un Çekmeköy ilçesinde bulunan Taşdelen Mesire alanı kalıyordu.

I last went to Taşdelen Recreation Area last year with my friend after a 9-year hiatus. We met around noon on Sunday, bought the necessary things for a barbecue and picnic from the market and set off. Since the Taşdelen Recreation Area was about 10 km away from us, we got there in twenty minutes. The demand to such paid recreation areas has been increasing because of the ban on entrance to the forest areas and Sunday. In the meantime, the entrance fee has been increased from 50 TL to 70 TL. Still not much. Since the area on the left after entering the picnic area is less crowded, we always prefer this area when we come here. After finding a suitable and empty table, we carried the belongings and things there.

Taşdelen Mesire alanına, 9 yıl aradan sonra, en son geçen yıl arkadaşımla gitmiştim. Pazar günü öğlen gibi buluşup mangal ve piknik için gerekli olan malzemeleri marketten alıp yola çıktık. Taşdelen Mesire alanı bize yaklaşık 10 km uzaklıkta olduğu için yirmi dakkada oraya varmıştık. Pazar günü ve ormanlık alanlara girişlerin yasak olması nedeniyle bu tür ücretli mesire alanlarına olan talep artıyor. Bu arada giriş ücreti 50 TL’den 70 TL’ye yükseltilmiş. Yine de çok değil. Mesire alanına girişten sonra sol taraftaki alan daha az kabalık olduğu için buraya gelişimizde hep bu alanı tercih ediyoruz. Uygun ve boş bir masa bulduktan sonra eşyalarımızı ve malzemeleri oraya taşıdık.

Since we both had a late breakfast, we decided to have the barbecue later. As my friend lit the samovar first as usual, we sat and chatted until the tea brewed. Then, we had some snack with tea. By the way, the number of cars and people coming to the left side of the forest had increased considerably. Although we chose a shady spot, the wind was not blowing very much. The barbecue smells coming from the surroundings had made us hungry by then. We had the barbecue towards evening. After eating, we wanted to light the samovar again and brew another tea. I went for a walk around until the tea was brewed. I took a few photos as the evening sunlight hit the trees in the forest.

İkimiz de geç kahvaltı yaptığımız için mangalı daha sonra yapma kararı aldık. Arkadaşım her zamanki gibi semaveri önden yaktığı için çay demlenene kadar oturup muhabbet ettik. Daha sonra çay ile birşeyler atıştırdık. Bu arada ormanın sol tarafı gelen araba ve kişi sayısı oldukça artmıştı. Gölgelik yer seçmemize rağmen rüzgar çok fazla esmiyordu. Etraftan gelen mangal kokuları artık bizi de acıktırmıştı. Akşama doğru mangalı yaptık. Karnımızı iyice doyurduktan sonra semaveri tekrar yakıp bir çay daha demlemek istedik. Çay demlenene kadar ben etrafta yürüyüşe çıktım. Akşam güneşi ormandaki ağaçlara çarparken birkaç fotoğraf çektim.

When I got back to where we settled, I lit a fire to burn the wood we collected in the forest and the plastic waste that other people threw around. Since the weather was hot, we sat until 8 pm, took in the forest air, and chatted. Even though it was Sunday, there were still people having barbecue when we left. Arkadaşımın yanına geri döndüğümde, ormanda topladığımız odunları ve etrafımızda diğer insanların attığı plastik atıkları yakmak için ateş yaktım. Hava sıcak olduğu için akşam saat 8’e kadar oturduk, orman havası aldık, muhabbet ettik. Pazar günü olmasına ragmen biz ayrılırken hala mangal yakan insanlar vardı.
