December walk in village Byala Voda

in Worldmappinlast year

A few days ago, I visited a friend in village Byala Voda in Strandzha mountain. The village is located on the Bosnian ridge between centuries-old beech forests.

I love visiting this authentic Bulgarian village and even though I have been here several times in different seasons, there are still places I haven't been able to visit.

The village is located about 45 km from the city of Burgas and in the past was called Konak.

My walk this time was even more exciting because I was in the company of two Basenji dogs - Yasha and Karaman. They are my friend's and they are 6 and 7 years old.

With Yasha and Karaman we started the walk to the old chapel "St. Petka", which is located about 1 km south of the village. We walked along a dirt path, surrounded by the charms of the autumn forest.

The chapel of St. Petka is located near the river in Ryakata locality. To get to the other side of the river, we crossed a wooden bridge.

Around the chapel there is an external and internal ayazmo. The water in the inner ayazmo is medicinal and drinkable. It helps with bile and liver diseases.

The water from the external ayazmo is not suitable for drinking, but it is curative for skin diseases, for gout and for compresses for bites and swellings.

In Strandzha mountain St. Petka is revered as a healing saint, patroness of women, women in labor and the childless.

Around the chapel was a corner with wooden benches and tables.

We continued our walk back to the village. I also wanted to go to the other Saint Petka chapel, which is newer and is always closed when I come to visit.

And this time was no different, even though it was Sunday, it was still closed and you couldn't enter the courtyard.

Here is the center of the village.

The town hall.

There is no shop, cafe or pub in the village and people get their own supplies by car.

In the center is the village church "Saint Prophet Ilia". It was built in the 18th century.

"300-350 years ago, the settlement was located about 4 km east of the present one. During their exodus, the people destroyed the church and built a temple in the new place with the same material.

The bell tower:

The building of the church - low and with very elongated proportions.

It has been declared an architectural monument.

The church from the inside:

The walls of the church are made of quarry stone. The floor of the church is constructed with antique bricks.

I continued the walk in the village. I like looking at the houses and their yards. Some houses were very old and abandoned. Others were old but well maintained and preserved. There were also brand new houses.

I hope you enjoyed the walk in this authentic Bulgarian village.

Thank you for stopping by!

Going into the forest is a bit scary as there are not many humans to be seen. The area there is deserted. But it feels very good to be near the forest because there is no sound of any kind. There is a calm atmosphere.

The area is really deserted but in the forest it is peaceful and so nice with this beautiful nature and forest sounds around 😍👍

Karaman is the black one right? He's beautiful. Love his colour. #monochrome 😁

Yes - Karaman is the black one 🙂👍😍
