Santiago Downtown and the changing of the guard

Hello travelers...

After a short break to talk a little about Rio de Janeiro, back to continue our trip to Chile, this time a very short post to get back into the swing of things...

So, to recap... where did we stop?

Oh yes, after visiting two famous wineries near the city, the next day we had to go to downtown Santiago. The mission?

• Exchange some reais for Chilean pesos.

Because, right? A self-respecting tourist needs local currency to spend. Relying solely on your credit card in places you don't know is not a good idea, there's always that place where your card won't go through, isn't accepted or has some other problem.

It's always good to have some change in your pocket.

We woke up to a nice sunny day, but it was freezing cold. And to top it off, the hotel decided to trick me with the water in the shower.

It was freezing cold! And there was no way to heat it up, but I didn't want to waste time complaining to reception so... Nothing like a really cold shower to wake you up from the Chilean cold, right?

Would you take the cold shower or skip it? LOL

From there, we took the car and went downtown, looking for the best exchange rates.

We found a street with several exchange bureaus, each one showing a different rate, and it is in these small differences that we can win or lose.

It was then that, by accident, we stumbled upon the changing of the guard in the square.

It seems that it is the "event of the moment" for tourists. And, of course, we went there to see what was so special about it.

I liked this sign:

Education is the first duty and the highest right of the State.

The result? A lot of commotion for little action and crowded with curious onlookers.

I took the opportunity to take some photos of the buildings in the center – the architecture is very impressive.

Since I like to collect bad money notes from other countries, I took some photos to keep as a souvenir, since I didn't know if I would return with some notes in my wallet or if I would spend it all there.

With the Pesos finally in my pocket, we continued our trip to the coast, because I was getting tired of the chaos of the city and needed to see the sea.

And the Chilean money, with the 5k, 10k and 20k notes that I exchanged, ready to be burned.

We went back to get the car, strategically parked to get out of the center quickly without getting stuck in too much traffic, and continued on our way.

Olá viajantes...

Depois da pequena pausa para falar um pouco do Rio de Janeiro, voltando para continuar nossa viagem ao Chile, dessa vez um post bem curto para voltar ao ritmo da viagem...

Então, recapitulando... onde paramos?

Ah sim, depois de visitar duas vinícolas famosas perto da cidade, já no dia seguinte tínhamos que ir ate o centro de Santiago. A missão?

• Trocar uns reais por Pesos Chilenos.

Porque né?, turista que se preze precisa de dinheiro local pra gastar. Depender somente de cartão de credito em lugares que você não conhece não é uma boa ideia, sempre tem aquele local que o cartão nao passa, nao e aceito ou algum outro problema.

Sempre bom ter uns trocados no bolso.

Acordamos com um Sol gostoso, mas o frio tava de lascar. E, pra completar, o hotel resolveu me trolar com a água no chuveiro.

Estava muito gelada! E nada de fazer aquecer, mas nao queria perder tempo com isso reclamando na recepção então... Nada como um banho bem gelado pra te acordar de vez no frio chileno, né?

De lá, pegamos o carro e fomos pro centrão, naquela busca pelas melhores taxas de câmbio.

Achamos uma rua que com várias casas de cambio, cada uma exibindo uma taxa diferente, e nessas pequenas diferenças que podemos ganhar ou perder.

Foi aí que, sem querer, trombamos com a troca de guarda na praça.

Parece que é o "evento do momento" pros turistas. E, claro, fomos lá ver o que tinha de tão especial.

Resultado? Muito alvoroço pra pouca ação e lotado de curiosos.

Aproveitei para tirei umas fotos dos prédios no centro – a arquitetura é bem imponente.

Como gosto de colecionar notas de bad money de outros países, tirei umas fotos para guardar de lembrança, já que não sabia se iria voltar com algumas notas na carteira ou iria gastar tudo por lá mesmo.

Com os Pesos finalmente no bolso, seguimos viagem pro litoral, porque já tava ficando cansado do caos da cidade e precisava ver o mar.

E o dinheiro chileno, com as notas de 5k, 10k e 20k que troquei, prontos pra serem torrados.

Voltamos para buscar o carro, estacionado estrategicamente para sair rápido do centro sem pegar muito transito, e seguimos viagem.

Algumas poucas fotos tiradas da janela do carro, porque andar por cidades que você não conhece tudo parece ser novidade.
