Yes you heard it right! Today we are at the top of Bijli Mahadev temple. Finally after climbing few 100 stairs the huge devda trees and with mind blowing few of Kullu Valley we reached the top of temple. I was not that difficult if you are a beginner you can easily do that track. Bijali Mahadev temple is dedicated to Lord shiva and it is believe that Lord Shiva's existence was always there even before the creation of the universe and he will stay there till eternity.

Under the clear blue sky we continued are track, work you homes homes along the way the people there sell all the essentials requirements to do Pooja. These are generally single story home and they are made in traditional kullu architecture.

According to historical saying the history of temple is full of miracles and mysteries and no one exactly know what happened here. Situated in small village called kashwari in Kullu Valley this Temple attracts lots of pilgrims as well as adventurous seekers from all over the world. Elevation of 2460 m you get the whole view of the Kullu as well as Parvati Valley and the temple is among the most ancient temples in India.

Story behind the temple

The name Bijali Mahadevitself reveals about the temple Bijli Hindi word which translates to thunder lightning. Have you ever heard about a strange news with tells about lightning falling on a temple? Here in Bijli Mahadev almost after every 12 years thunder lighting fall on the Shivlinga. Strange right?

That's not it, most range is after the lightning hit the Shivlinga it gets broken into two parts and the price of the temple fix it with butter and sattu (gram flour) coating. And after sometime Shivlinga come back to its original and natural form. Lord Shiva who is worshipped here is believed to be protected of whole Kullu Valley.

Architecture of the temple

Temple is made up of wood and it's roof is made up of slate which shows a typical Pahari style of architecture which is famous in Himachal Pradesh. Exact date of construction of the temple is quite a non but it is considered as an ancient shrine. Believe that the temple is full of divine energy and blessings from Lord Shiva. Getting here and praying here is considered auspicious and therefore you will see lots of devotees here.

Story behind the Mountain

There is a story behind this huge mountain. A demon named Kulant used to live near this area in one day he took shape and form of a giant python and set down in a river called Vyas. As he was in coiled form the river stopped and started to get over flow. Cause of this lots people died by drowning and then Lord Shiva came there and killed him and his body suddenly turned into a this mountain. The name Kullu is derived from Kulant- the demon.

People of the area were afraid that the demon will harm them by causing a natural disaster. Ensure of the area Lord Shiva decided to sit on the head of the mountain and ordered the lord of rain Indra to strike lightning hair after every 12 years to reduce the level of negative energy of Kulant.

During Shivratri there is a huge influx of devotees to celebrate the festival and also to during the restoration of Shivlinga after the lightning strike, lots of local rituals and prayers are done here. Is a most visit temple in Himachal Pradesh it's not only a religious place but it is a travel destination for those who love nature and spirituality and for trekkers. I had a great experience visiting this temple and loved every part of my journey as well as destination.
