Amazing Evangelical Lutheran Church (Red Church) in Arad, Romania

Hello travelers

If in my last blog I shared with you some of the most important historical buildings in the center of Arad county, I hope you didn't miss this blog, if you haven't seen it yet you can see it here.

So today we leave behind the buildings at kilometer zero, but we don't go too far because I have to show you one of the most beautiful places of worship in the county, the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church is located on one of the most important boulevards in Arad, Revolution Boulevard, on both sides of this boulevard there are many historic buildings, some of them have been renovated, but there are also some that are in a state of decay.

So we took a short walk along the boulevard until we arrived right in front of the church, which is simply stunning, and the fact that it was evening outside made the church look spectacular.

My first reaction was to check if it was open so I could see inside but unfortunately the church was already closed, the visiting hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:30-13, Saturday from 9-11, there is no entrance fee.

A very important aspect is the fact that this church is known in the city as the Red Church (very few people know that its name is Evangelical Lutheran Church), where the name comes from the red church, actually from those red colored bricks that were clad all the exterior walls.

Standing there next to the church I really wondered what is under those red bricks (I took a walk around the church to see if I could discover a portion where there is no brick, but I couldn't find it), what materials were used in its construction, especially since the Evangelical Lutheran Church was built between 1905-1906.

With the passage of time, the church has undergone several renovations, but it has never given up the red brick that made it famous, another amazing detail being the church tower that measures 46 meters.

Speechless, the church had a total of three bells, and during World War II two of these bells were melted down, so the resulting bronze torpedoes were made of bronze for later use in the war, isn't the history of this church fabulous, I for one was fascinated.

In the following I will show you what this church looks like from all around, frankly its architecture is impressive, such an imposing church in such a small space.

Fascinatingly, right next to the church, on a cobbled alleyway, you can sit in an igloo (the temperatures outside are still low) to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and, as a view, to have the church next door.
