(ENG-ESP) Manzanillo Biodiversity Refuge - Refugio de Biodiversidad el Manzanillo

Hello, dear friends of Hive, this time I want to tell you a little about my visit to the Manzanillo Biodiversity Refuge, located in the Felidia district, in the northwest of Cali. Together with my good friend Cesar Garzón, we are embarking on an incredible project that fills our souls and gives us the energy to continue climbing, no matter the difficulties. Located in the Los Farallones Nature Reserve, my friend Cesar has a wonderful piece of land, filled with an unimaginable biodiversity of flora and fauna. Below, we'll tell you all about this adventure and some of the projects we have in mind.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive, en esta ocasión quiero contarles un poco de mi visita al Refugio de Biodiversidad el Manzanillo, ubicado en el corregimiento de Felidia, en el Noroccidente de la ciudad de Cali. Junto a mi buen amigo Cesar Garzón estamos iniciando un proyecto increíble que nos llena mucho el alma y nos brinda energía para seguir cuesta arriba sin importar las dificultades. Ubicado en la reserva natural los farallones, mi amigo Cesar tiene un terreno maravilloso, lleno de una biodiversidad de fauna y flora impensable. A continuación les contaremos todo lo que es esta aventura y algo de los proyectos que tenemos en mente.

A brief presentation by Cesar Garzón. How have you been doing? I had this idea many years ago. I always wanted to be a biologist. I'm fascinated by everything flora and fauna, the land. I like agriculture. And well, this is a heritage that our grandfather left us, it belongs to the whole family, to all the people. I want to conserve this land, which is now a nature reserve. The idea is to make a trail, which I've already started, a trail so people can see the wonderful forest we have, and I want to plant trees. I've already learned to identify, not many, but there we go, and identify cedar and oak, trees that are already endangered, and around the trail, plant native trees that we're growing right here.

Una pequeña presentación de Cesar Garzón. Cómo me les ha ido? este tenía esta idea hace muchos años, yo siempre quise ser biólogo me fascina todo lo que sea flora o fauna, la tierra, me gusta la agricultura y bueno esto es un patrimonio que nos dejó nuestro abuelo nuestro es de toda la familia, de toda la gente, yo quiero pues conservar esta tierra que ahora es una reserva natural La idea es hacer un sendero que ya lo comencé, un sendero para que la gente vea el bosque tan maravilloso que tenemos y quiero sembrar árboles, ya he aprendido a identificar no muchos pero ahí vamos e identificar lo que es el cedro, el roble, árboles que ya están en vía de extinción y alrededor del sendero ir sembrando árboles nativos que estamos cultivando acá mismo.

Well friends, I tell you that in this area, we are privileged with biodiversity. We have more than 260 species of birds endemic to the place, of which I have documented approximately 50 or 60 species. We are located at about 2,600 meters above sea level. The variety of fauna can also be seen in different species of reptiles, felines. With the help of a camera trap, I have been able to capture several very interesting images and videos of animals that I will be showing you throughout this project. Little by little, we will demonstrate to you step by step how it has evolved since the beginning until now.

Bueno amigos les cuento que en esta zona, somos unos privilegiados de la biodiversidad, cotamos con mas de 260 especies de aves endémicas del lugar, de las cuales tengo documentadas aproximadamente unas 50 o 60 especies, nos encontramos sobre los 2600 metros sobre el nivel del mar. La variedad de fauna la podemos ver también n diferentes especies de reptiles, felinos, con ayuda de una cámara trampa he podido captar varias imágenes y videos de animales muy interesante que les estaré mostrando a lo largo de todo este proyecto, poco a poco les vamos a demostrando el paso a paso de cómo se ha ido evolucionando desde que desde el comienzo hasta ahora la fecha.

Impamo Tree: This is a tree whose leaves are bought in Cali for decoration. It is called Impano. It is a very pretty tree. It is in the forest. I have a very large specimen here in front of the house. I have named it the hummingbird tree since it is filled with these beautiful and mystical birds, which when they gather together emit a rather curious sound.

Árbol de Impamo: Este es un árbol que sus hojas las compran en Cali para decorar se llaman Impano es un árbol muy bonito está en el bosque tengo un ejemplar muy grande aquí de frente en la casa lo he nombrado el árbol de los colibrís ya que se llena de estos hermosos y místicos pájaros, que cuando se reúnen emiten un sonido bastante curioso.

Spring tanagers from tropical forests, small emerald toucans, hunting snakes, banana spiders, guatines, ocelots, an incredible diversity of fauna and flora that each day has a pleasant surprise.

Tangara primavera de los bosques tropicales, pequeños Tucanes Esmeralda, serpientes cazadoras, Arañas Bananeras, Guatines, Tigrillos, una increíble diversidad de fauna y flora que cada día tiene una agradable sorpresa mas.
