Hi, this Friday I unintentionally walked several kilometers, and although it's something I really enjoy, perhaps this time it was more than my body could handle, and my knees felt it a bit.

Either way, it was worth the effort because it allowed me to share this post with you, explore iconic streets of Havana, feel the city breeze on my face, and help fulfill a request from my older sister.

I started the trip in The Corner of Tiles. This is one of the most popular spots in the Cuban capital, where the boundaries of the Cerro, Diez de Octubre, Old Havana, and Central Havana municipalities converge. Its importance dates back to the last century, and it gets its name from the tile roofs of the houses that lined it.

However, the reconstruction of many homes and the replacement of tile roofs with concrete have erased the street's original name, but not the name itself or its popularity.

When you're here, you can see the passage of time in the buildings and their need for a fresh coat of paint or some other improvements to the surrounding facades.

Since my destination was Vedado, a neighborhood in the Plaza municipality, I had to take a car because the journey is quite long.

I got off on one of Havana's main thoroughfares, where the Yara cinema-theater is located, a venue that has hosted numerous cultural events, such as the Havana Film Festival, musical concerts, and screenings of hit films.

Being one of the most picturesque and beautiful areas in the country, I decided to continue on foot, and before I knew it, I was near the Meliá Cohiba hotel, part of the Spanish Meliá group. As is common in many places, the contrasts in ornamentation and construction between these buildings and the homes of the local residents are striking.

One of the exceptions was the blue building, as it's known, located near the Mella Theater. This was one of the highlights of my Friday, because I was able to be near places that have witnessed great events in the country. For example, at the Mella Theater, I've been able to enjoy performances of important works of world literature and musical shows featuring leading figures of the Cuban cultural scene.

Many of the musicians and artists who have performed there praise the theater's quality, citing its location in the city's cultural heart, near-perfect acoustics, excellent lighting and visibility, and beautiful architecture.

On the way back, I got close to the university residence hall and admired the Monuments and statues erected near the Havana hospital complex.

After this tour, I took a ride that dropped me off near my home.

I can't say the exact number of kilometers I walked because I don't have the app installed that lets me know that data.

What I can say is that I walked more than seven kilometers.

But I can assure you that all that walking was worth it, and I'm very grateful.

Hola, este viernes sin querer he caminado varios kilómetros y, aunque es algo que disfruto mucho, quizás en esta ocasión fue más de lo que el cuerpo puede soportar, y las rodillas lo sintieron un poco.

El viaje lo comencé en la Esquina de Tejas. Este es uno de los lugares más populares de la capital cubana, y en ella convergen los límites de los municipios Cerro, Diez de Octubre, Habana Vieja y Centro Habana. Su importancia data del siglo pasado, y recibe su nombre debido a los techos de tejas que tenían las casas que la formaban.

Sin embargo, la reconstrucción de muchas viviendas y el cambio del techo de tejas por hormigón han hecho desaparecer el origen del nombre de la calle, pero no el nombre en sí ni su popularidad.

Cuando estás en este lugar, puedes ver el paso de los años en sus edificaciones y la necesidad que tienen de una mano de pintura restauradora o de alguna mejora en las fachadas de sus alrededores.

Como mi destino era el Vedado, un reparto del municipio Plaza, tuve que tomar un automóvil porque el trayecto es muy largo.

Me bajé en una de las arterias principales de La Habana, donde se encuentra el cine-teatro Yara, una instalación que ha sido sede de numerosos eventos culturales, como el Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, conciertos musicales y proyecciones de películas exitosas.

Al ser una de las zonas más vistosas y bellas del país, decidí continuar a pie y, antes de darme cuenta, ya estaba cerca del hotel Meliá Cohiba, perteneciente al grupo español Meliá. Como sucede en muchos lugares, se notan los contrastes ornamentales y constructivos entre estas edificaciones y las viviendas de los habitantes.

Una de las excepciones fue el edificio azul, como se le conoce, que está ubicado cerca del teatro Mella. Esta fue una de las principales alegrías que tuve este viernes, porque pude estar cerca de lugares que han sido testigos de grandes acontecimientos dentro del país. Por ejemplo, en el teatro Mella he podido disfrutar de puestas en escena de obras importantes de la literatura universal y de espectáculos musicales con grandes figuras del panorama cultural cubano.

Muchos de los músicos y artistas que han actuado allí elogian la calidad del teatro por su ubicación geográfica en el corazón cultural de la ciudad, un lugar en el que la acústica es casi perfecta, hay una excelente iluminación y visibilidad, y su estilo constructivo es muy bello.

De regreso, llegué cerca de la residencia estudiantil universitaria y admiré los monumentos y estatuas erigidas cerca del complejo de hospitales de La Habana.

Después de este recorrido, tomé un transporte que me dejó cerca de mi vivienda.

No puedo decir la cantidad exacta de kilómetros que recorrí porque no tengo instalada la aplicación que me permite saber ese dato.

Lo que sí puedo decir es que caminé más de siete kilómetros.

Pero puedo asegurarles que caminar tanto valió la pena y lo agradezco mucho.
