Hey Hive!

If you missed the last couple of posts, we're currently on a journey back in mid-March 2019 when we flew to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for an event that Sean got invited to! Since we have friends and family there in KL it also gave us a chance to visit them!

And last week, we got done attended said event that Sean was invited to, which was a banquet hosted by this trading company that Sean used to use called FX Primus! It was a pretty fancy dinner at Sheraton Hotel so we got all dressed up and had a lovely dinner there, with some pretty decent entertainment including an amazing singer, whom we were fortunate enough to meet! She was a singer from Zimbabwe and we really enjoyed her performance so it was honour to meet and grab a photo with her!

Anyway, after that dinner we were pretty beat and had a good night's rest in our hotel with very full bellies!

17 March 2019. Sunday.

We didn't really have plans for the day other than visiting my relatives and checking out their new house. And since we slept in and missed the hotel breakfast, my aunt picked us up from the hotel and we met up with the rest of their family at a cozy cafe nearby their place.

It was really hot at high noon so unfortunately I didn't take photos of the place and can't remember what the name is anymore. But they had quite a range of items on their menu with Chinese and Western dishes and even dessert!

I wanted something with vegetables though so I bought this Mongolian style chicken with vegetables and rice:

And Sean ordered from stir-fried vermicelli:

Both dishes were really good! I think they had a special set that cost about RM12 that came with a drink and ice cream for dessert that was really worth it!

And it was Magnum ice cream for dessert too! Pretty dang good imo.

Anyway, after lunch my aunt drove us back to their place to relax and hang out. This was also the first time we were going to their new house ever since they moved a few years ago. And it was miles better than their old house that's for sure!

I remember when we were kids my mum would bring my brother and I to go visit them during the school holidays and my brother, my 2 cousins and I would stay in their shared bedroom playing games and chatting all night! It was really fun, but having so many people in that house did get really cramped whenever we would visit.

Plus since my cousins were all growing up they couldn't really share a room anymore so it was about time they had an upgrade.

The kitchen was a lot nicer and bigger. The whole house was very spacious and neat, with everything kept away. My cousins' rooms were really nice too.

It was really huge compared to their condominium "apartment" last time, and the design was really nice and simple too! I was so happy for them now that they're all settled in and happy in their new home!

They said there was plenty of space for us to if we ever went over to visit and we wouldn't all have to share a bathroom like we used to.

So we hung out for a bit, played some games with my cousin and just chilled for a while and before we knew it, it was dinner time!

They brought us out for dinner and we went to this open-air hawker center called Restoran Station 8 that kinda looks like this!

It's a lot bigger than this picture since it goes around the corner on the right side as well, but there are plenty of stalls here that are open in the morning and at night.

I think when we went there it was still a little early in the evening though as most of the stalls were still closed.

Thankfully it wasn't that hot outside anymore and there were plenty of fans around since there's a lot of outdoor seating and we chose to dine al fresco.

There were only a few other customers there at the time including these adorable cuties!

The owner was sitting there having dinner and their doggos were so well behaved! They didn't bark or make any noise or mess at all and were such a delight to see!

We were pretty flexible on food, so we left it to my relatives to decide what to order, and my aunt chose fried rice, hokkien mee and satay! We also got lemon barley drinks to cool ourselves down since it was still pretty warm.

This was the Hokkien Mee and it looked and smelled so delicious! It actually looks opposite of Singapore's Hokkien Mee which is lighter and has different noodles, but resembles more of our Char Kway Teow which uses black sauce.

And this was the huge plate of satay/meat skewers!

I don't know how many sticks they ordered; maybe around 20? But it was soo good! And each stick didn't skimp on the meat as well, not like some stalls here in Singapore. The meat was also nice and tender and well marinated. The peanut sauce it came with added a nice flavour as well!

Sean also wanted to try the char kway teow so we bought a small plate of that as well.

This is what Singapore's Hokkien Mee actually looks like, so it's always interesting to see them be the opposite here across the border.

We all enjoyed a very nice meal together and were soo full and satisfied after that! By 8pm we had already finished our meal but the night had just begun for some stalls here and they were just getting fired up! It was also getting more crowded so we were glad to leave.

After that my aunt drove us back to 1 Utama shopping mall and we walked around somemore since the mall has 2 huge wings and we barely explored even half of it the last time!

So we went there to kill some time and just walked around digesting our food, and we saw a familiar store!

It was Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake! This is a famous cheesecake brand from Fukuoka that resembled Rikuro Cheesecake which was the one we tried back in Osaka in 2017! I think we did try Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake the first time we came to KL together in 2016 though. And I thought it was really nice and moist! And at least it didn't have raisins like the Rikuro one.

We were kinda full though so we didn't buy it at the time since there was now way we could've finished a whole cheesecake.

We did however, go back to Chizu and try another one of their drinks! It was also a really cozy place to sit down so we sat there to rest our feet after walking around for a bit.

After a while we were getting tired so we got a ride back to our hotel and since we could get a complementary drink at the hotel bar we decided to go check it out!

We'd never been to a real bar before so this was new. I felt really out of place though since it was so empty and we were dressed so casually. Also we don't drink.

But it was a pretty fancy looking bar, and we got served these green drinks that didn't really taste like much. If I recall correctly they tasted slightly minty or like toothpaste? Since it was free I doubt they put much alcohol in it anyway.

It was probably the first and last time we visited a bar since neither of us like alcoholic drinks. But it was a cool experience nonetheless!

18 March 2019. Monday.

The next day was our flight back and it was a little after noon so we didn't have time to go anywhere. We managed to get up early to enjoy the nice buffet breakfast at the hotel one last time though!

Thankfully it was after the weekend so not many people were around anymore and we could enjoy our breakfast in peace.

Then to avoid having to rush for our flight like the last time we were in KL, we made sure to go ahead of time and arrive 1.5 hrs before our flight. Especially with KL's notorious traffic, this was crucial. So it was a relief to reach the airport with plenty of time to spare.

It was actually surprisingly crowded at the airport for some reason. And it was also really warm as always. There wasn't much to do so we milled around until our flight and had a safe trip back home!

That's gonna be all for this trip! It was a very short and simple one, since we didn't really have much plans other than visiting friends and family or much time since it was only a weekend-long trip. And now that we can't travel at all, it was nice to relive this trip and remember the last time I actually saw my relatives in-person.

The next trip will be a very special one to our favourite country yet again, but in a whole other region this time! Stay tuned!
