Hello, dear friends.
I managed to prepare the post I'm sharing with you today quite quickly, and since we're approaching the Halloween season, a holiday that has become quite popular in Italy, I thought of making this post about an exploration I did in a place some time ago. Frankly, I hadn't shared it before because I didn't find this place particularly interesting from an architectural perspective. Also, throughout its history, it has been modified and essentially turned into a country house. However, there's something eerie behind this place.
I'm talking about the Castle of Sorci, an ancient fortress that is located near Anghiari, a place I've already talked about in the province of Arezzo. As I mentioned, it has a long and fascinating history tied to various families, condottieri (military leaders), and ancient legends, and that's what I want to tell you about. It's called the Castle of Sorci because two families in the area, the Rats (Sorci) and the Cats, used to vie for this castle. The fact that two families with such unique surnames were fighting over it is already quite amusing. In the end, the Sorci family managed to gain control of the castle after various wars and battles.
Behind this castle, like in other castles in Italy, there's an ancient legend. It is said that even today, you can see the ghost of Baldaccio, a famous condottiero who lived in this castle but was treacherously killed in Florence in 1441 by the famous Cosimo de' Medici. It is believed that his ghost, his spirit, wanders through the rooms and the underground passages of this castle in search of justice. I went to this place, curious about this legend because I had heard that some visitors had heard noises and footsteps during their visit. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case for me as I roamed around and didn't hear a thing. This might be because the castle, as you can see from the photos, has undergone significant modifications over the years and has changed quite a bit.
I hope you enjoyed my story, especially now that Halloween is approaching. Ghost stories always intrigue me, especially when I visit places like these. Do you feel the same? It's a shame I've never had the chance to encounter any entities, although in Italy, there are several groups of ghost hunters who visit these places to document and photograph their sightings.
I wish you all a great day, and see you in my next post!
