Hello dearest friends,

As you may have noticed, I’ve been a bit absent recently because, unfortunately, I received some very sad news the other day. My cousin, who lives near Valencia, suffered a terrible loss. During the recent flood that you might have heard about on the news or read in the papers, her husband tragically lost his life. He was on his way back from work when his car got caught in the raging waters and was struck by an enormous amount of mud.

I have to say this news has really shaken me. I was truly shocked by the images I saw, and, as I understand it, many of the victims have yet to be found. This is why I haven’t been able to write or share any posts; the sheer power of nature has deeply affected me at this moment in my life.

This morning, though, I decided to gather my strength and share with you all a beautiful village that I rediscovered recently. I had first come across it some time ago, but I had the chance to explore it more thoroughly this time, as I was working nearby. It’s located in the province of Siena, near Casole d’Elsa, and is called Pievescola.

Pievescola is a truly interesting place, and the first thing that strikes you when you arrive is the Church of San Giovanni Battista. Its standout feature is its bell gable, and although the façade isn’t in the best shape, it’s charming. Sadly, as usual, I wasn’t lucky enough to find the church open.

Anyway, as always, I explored this village on foot, which allowed me to take in every corner of this little gem.

The houses were well-kept, and it was clear they had been recently restored. There was plenty of greenery throughout the village, and as I strolled, I spotted a beautiful fountain adorned with an artistic sculpture—a common and wonderful sight in Tuscany, where artistic touches are everywhere.

Continuing my walk, I had a lovely chat with a kind elderly woman who lives in this beautiful village. It was such an interesting conversation, but above all, what struck me most was her kindness. She was so hospitable that she even offered me coffee! She also told me she takes care of the stray cats that wander around the village, which, to me, makes her a superstar.

I took one last look around this charming village. Sadly, one slightly disappointing thing was that the shops selling local products and crafts have closed, as the shopkeepers have retired, according to the woman I spoke to. Still, I’m glad to see the village is holding on, which makes me happy.

I hope the photos I shared were interesting. I would have loved to include every word the elderly lady shared with me, as it was such an engaging conversation, but then this post might have ended up being 3,000 words long. I wish you all a great start to the week, and see you next time!
