Hello dear friends,
In today's post, of course, what can I talk about? But another beautiful village, this time located right on the border between my region of Emilia Romagna and Tuscany. It's a village I recently discovered on a trip to Tuscany and one that I liked very much because of its intriguing architectural features.
Today, I want to tell you about Pianta ed Uli, a village certainly rich in history and beauty, once part of the possessions of the famous Countess Matilda of Canossa but over the years dominated by people from Bologna and Florence. This shows how rich this place is in history and culture.
As usual, I explored this place on foot—my legs being the best means of transport for me in this form of slow tourism.
After a few steps, I was struck by the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a true architectural gem from the 1600s. Apparently, it seems to have been recently restored, but unfortunately, it was closed, so I couldn't admire the interior.
Continuing my walk, I noticed in the distance the Lombard Romanesque style Parish Church of Sant'Andrea. Initially, it looked very ancient from the outside, but reading the plaques nearby, I discovered it was actually built in 1926. Nevertheless, its facade immediately caught my attention—it's truly beautiful and quite unique.
Nearby, I found a fountain with a monument dedicated to Evangelista di Gaspare Torricelli, the inventor of the barometer, which was probably used in those years around 1600 for weather forecasts. It's fascinating to know that this inventor was born in this small village, and it was a great discovery for me.
I also learned that this village once had a castle overlooking it, so I quickened my pace to see if any traces of this ancient stronghold remained.
I walked up the road near the church, but there was no sign of the castle—likely destroyed over time, perhaps by invaders. Disappointed but curious, I returned and entered the church because fortunately, it was open.
It was indeed a beautiful church, filled with light, just the way I like it. Afterward, I decided to take a walk around the village to get a view from above. The surrounding nature creates a breathtaking panorama, though I must admit the village itself didn't impress me as much, although it was still an interesting discovery. Lately, I've been discovering quite a few of these hidden gems.
Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling well that day, and I realized I didn't take as many beautiful photos as I would have liked. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed them in some way. Until next time, I wish you all a wonderful day.
