A few things you should know about this Zamindar house:

Zamindar Hemchandra Chowdhury built this zamindarbari (1890). He used to rule the people of his area with a strict hand. To cross the zamindarbari, they had to walk upside down while bowing their heads constantly with bare feet. They were forced to obey these rules.

Hemchandra Chowdhury left Ambaria Rajbari of Madhupur Upazila in 1880 (1286 Bangabad) and built a new Rajbari in Subarnakhali village of Jhawail Union of Gopalpur Upazila. He started managing the zamindari from there. Suvarnakhali was a famous river port on the banks of the Yamuna. At that time steamers from Assam and Calcutta used to come to Subarnakhali due to easy communication with Calcutta. The railway line was extended from Mymensingh to Jagannathganj Ghat in 1905 with the initiative and efforts of some Hindu landlords including Hemchandra Chowdhury. Which facilitates the connection of Calcutta with Dhaka by rail and steamer. Hembabu arranges travel by tomtom or palanquin from Subarnakhali to Jagannathganj ghat of Sarishabari upazila by herring-bonding the five kilometer road. It is known that this is the first curved road of Gopalpur upazila. In the last decade of the 20th century, the Yamuna's corals washed away the river port of Suvarnakhali and Hemchandra's palace. Suvarnakhali has lost its tradition and survives today under the name Sonamui/Sonamukhi.

Also Zamindar Hemchandra Chowdhury had another house located in Bailor Union of Trishal Thana in Mymensingh District.

Stepping inside the mansion was like stepping into a time capsule. The architectural brilliance of the past era was evident in every corner. The intricate woodwork, adorned ceilings, and ornate chandeliers were a testament to the craftsmanship of the artisans who contributed to this masterpiece. The tour guides shared captivating stories about the nobles who once inhabited these halls, bringing the history of the place to life.

During my visit, I had the pleasure of enjoying local delicacies prepared by the gracious hosts of the estate. The traditional flavors and warm hospitality added an authentic touch to my experience.
