Sinulog festival is crowded, busy and the streets were all locked up! A tiring day to go to the Cebu City since you’ll see a swarming group of people when you go to the streets, it’s nice to celebrate Sinulog but there is this place that caught my eye and the historical monument that is one of the greatest asset of Cebu City. Let me take you to the “Heritage of Cebu Monument”.
Small Fact About the Place:
The Heritage of Cebu Monument was built on Plaza Parian, Cebu City. It was built by and conceptualized by the local and now famous artist Eduardo Castrillo, he started it in July 1996 and was completed by the various donations and funds helped by Senator Marcel Fernan. The construction was successfully finished in December 2000, and it is now a famous tourist spot especially because of the Cebuano Martyr Pedro Calungsod.
How to Get There:
The place is very accessible and easy to find whether it’s a public transportation or even private cars. It’s a short walk from Colon Street near the Basilica of Snr. Sto. Niño and a 15-20 minutes taxi ride from Ayala to SM. The place is easy to find when it comes to jeepney and and taxis.

Insights and Critic About thr Place:
First of all, if you want a historical stories and a fan of a big monument this is a great place for you! It’s meaningful stories especially to cebuanos can really touch and amaze you. A devotion of St. Pedro Calungsod and all the catholic Cebuanos are portrayed in this monument which had a big meaning and a symbol of being a true Cebuano and catholic, the monument is so big that you can easily see it. A great sculpture and artwork by the artist, it can give you a goosebumps when you’re seeing the very big statues of the people that converse of Raja Humabon and the people following to the Christianity.
What I love about the place is that it is very neat and clean, it’s well taken care of and there is no fee when entering or taking pictures. It has a 7/11 store just across the street and you can just buy if you’re thirsty or hungry, the ambiance and the history itself is very nice and magnificent. The monument itself really gives you the importance of the history of our people living in Cebu and the Martyr itself, they also said that the place also is a center of trade that is why it was called the street Parian or “pari-pari” that means trading by the Chinese and Spanish people. It’s not just the memory of taking pictures that you’ll gain but also the knowledge and the history of our queen city.
