Wright Park's Mansion House and Baguio Cathedral: A walk to remember

The beautiful destination of Baguio City is surely a walk to remember. In our case where we doing a DIY trip, there are areas where we need to walk to save up a little bit. You need to walk to see its beautiful and scenic views around. Dropping by isn't just enough to cater to all the best landscapes that you need to see, you have to stay for a while and enjoy the great scenery.

After a day of visiting the Igorot Stone Kingdom, our next day destination is to visit the Wright Park's fountain in front of the Mansion House, and Baguio Cathedral. We asked locals that we met along to the different destinations we wanted to visit for we were just relying on Google Maps.

We arrive at our first destination around 10:30 in the morning. We visit the famous Wright Park Fountain and the Mansion House. It was just along the highway where you could either ride a jeepney or even your private car. In our case, we ride a jeepney with a fare of Php14.00 per person. The excitement you feel when you are in the place is at the highest level.

Because we were very eager as first-timers in the area, we bravely went through the 150 steps to go upstairs. It was not easy, we had to stop for a while after walking to a series of steps to catch our breath. But in the end, it was a fulfilling part. You can see the stunning view of Wright Park's fountain and garden and the famous Mansion House on top of the stairs.

The greeneries surrounding the place are spectacular. Gigantic pine trees were planted on both sides, while beautiful white anthurium flowers were aligned at the center.

The elongated pool of water or the "pool of pines" directly reaches the gate of the Mansion House which adds to the magic the place offers to everyone. And because it's a sunny day, the beautiful reflections of the trees can be seen on the water.

The front part of the elongated pool of water is a cute old structure of a house but it doesn't have a roof. Its vintage look adds beauty to the place. Some people come across this area to take pictures of the center with its amusing background of vintage scenes.

As you walk further, you will reach the main gate of the Mansion. It was built in 1908 for US governor-generals and was destroyed in 1945 during the battle for the liberation of the Philippines. The gates were not open for public viewing when we arrived, so we just took pictures outside the main entrance. Though we were out, the beauty of the place could just be seen. The green grasses that surround the Mansion are truly amazing. Guards were guarding the gates to maintain the safety of the tourists nearby.

Afterward, we went to Baguio Cathedral. Though we were tired from the 150 steps back and forth of Wright Park, our hearts were longing to see the famous destination of Baguio.

The Baguio Cathedral is located at the Cathedral Loop adjacent to Session Road in Baguio. Its exterior view shows its twin spires and stained glass windows. During the Second World War, the cathedral served as an evacuation center and the only building in Baguio that withstood the carpet bombing of the city.

The cathedral is accessible in two ways. One with 104 steps upwards and the other one is through the adjacent campus from Saint Louis University. And in our case, we went with the lesser steps, because we were tired a while ago from Wright Park. And so, we need to choose the lesser one because our knees are shaking already.

We were so amazed by how our travel went well today. Despite the long walks we needed to go through, the shaking knees, and the scorching heat of the sun on our skin, we never gave up. Instead, we were determined to walk and see how beautiful Baguio City is.
