Hail to the Hive
We have been out of action for a few days due to hectic traveling in covid times. We had so many hoops to jump through to both get out of the Philippines and to enter the UK it made you wonder what they would throw at you next and at what stage you would possibly be denied travel. We were traveling through Qatar also and the UK government announced suddenly that it would be added to the red list literally the day after we transited through.
But after endless paperwork, Covid testing, online forms, locator apps ,online locator forms, ordering test kits on the other end etc etc we finally made it!
And this is 'Badger' our new home.
Captain @millycf1976 at the helm.
Very compact and bijout but has all we need for mobile living as we navigate the inland waterways of the UK. Shower, toilet, cooker, oven, fridge, solar power and there's even beer on board already, which I believe is a life essential. Oh there is food as well. I left a little space for food in the fridge, just a little.
So now we must quarantine here at this location for 10 days while we are tested on day 2 and 8 and then it seems restrictions are lossening a tad and we may be able to roam a little and take Badger on a bit of a cruise. Excited doesn't begin to describe it.
Now we had a nice view at our last location but the beauty of what we are about to do is that the view will be ever changing and if we like a spot then we perhaps stay a little longer. No concrets plans just roam.
The other added bonus is that if you're neighbours are not pleasant then you can just move but everyone here has been super friendly, which is good as we can't move for another 9 days.
So we will enjoy the peace and quiet of the canal side in Lichfield for this time and then start moving onwards. It's a nice change from the tropical environment. It is also very relaxing, which after the trip we just endured is a welcome relief.
I'm happy anyway
yes that's my happy face! No, it really is!

Brilliant! Welcome and looks like your getting settled already. Beers on the boat :)
cheers fella. Been away a very long time and despite everything it's great to be back!
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Whew! What a journey! Congrats on getting relocated. It sounds like it was quite the gauntlet. Glad you’re safe and sound and I hope all the follow-up testing goes well and you can settle into your new lifestyle. Badger is adorable!
thanks @jayna. It's going to be quite an interesting shift in lifestyle. I'll do some posts on the interior once we are settled in. Then ( rubs hands together ) the traveling begins :)
You made it, well done, hope the tests all fly through quickly enabling you to start to move. What a brilliant way to spend your days floating around the UK with many places to stop and explore.
Badger looks sturdy, big enough not to have worries about bringing more than what is required to live onboard. This deserves that !BEER after moving from East back to West.

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 70/112) Liquid rewards.
Thanks @joanstewart much appreciated.we are excited 😃.its going to be an interesting time
Exciting to say the least, when you get tired of moving, tie up for a couple of days and go exploring.
Major adjustment will be size of living space, but then... with a beer or two on desk watching the stars not a bad idea either.
You read my mind @joanstewart ;)
Look forward to the pub crawling along those waterways, have fun!

.So Many Questions.!!
But what I will do is sit back, relax and wait for your next 9 days of blogging and most likely answering many of these questions along the way...
The "Fat Cat" Sammi Jo says hello to you both. And that She Ain't skeerd' of no boats!
Silly cat actually likes water...
there's already a cat flap ready and waiting bro :)
Welcome back! A barge is a great way to quarantine and move around. Is that permanently or will you move back in land afterwards?
Thanks @livinguktaiwan ! we are gonna go with the canal flow. If we have had enough in a year cool if we love it then lets carry on. Over 2000 miles of rivers and canals at 4mph make take a while ;)
Come down to Caen Hill Locks. They're awesome
Btw, how much do they cost if you don't mind me asking ? I've always wanted to do that.
will let you know when we are in the area. We are just going to meander no plans. But we are headed that way I think laterthis year
Nice choice of lifestyle. 👍 I've often considered a houseboat.
we nearly did it 12 years ago. So happy we finally did. Off to see Kevin in April, beers on the boat!
I would love to live on that. You can go literally anywhere with it. I would use that to travel around the world. At least at first. Imagine literally waking up in a different country every week. That would be a big/huge adventure.
Its going to be an interesting change of pace for sure. Waking up this morning and having breakfast on the boat was amazing. Simple life but so good
Talk about a change of scenery!
What a load of bollocks govts made you go through these days for their fake pandemic. Fuck that. I would have stayed beachside! Glad you're happy to be in the UK though. At least you're on the right side of summer (for now).

Welcome back to the UK and your new adventure
I am happy to be back. Never thought I'd say that :)
This is my most recent happy face.
I am happy for you that you've found a new place to be happy. Stay well you two @scubahead and @millycf1976
Thank you very much @jerrytsuseer 😊
All good wishes to you too :)
Great shots dude. Congrats on the reward here.
We stayed in Ilkley and Todmorden, you wouldn't happen to be near either of those? I was just at a mountain bike competition last weekend with 'riders from all over the country,' a big huge event. Restaurants, concert venues, same shit. Shoulder/to/Shoulder.
But we call the UK home away from home so we're stuck here until ya'all open back up. Such a weird time.. one ocean apart and completely different.
ilkley is a bit further north we are in the midlands. It's nice up where you were. Very weird time but we have to try and make any positives out of any negatives and thats up to us. No government cares enough to do any of that for us. We all must realise tht now
Well said. One thing this pandemic has generated is a buzz about the current financial system.
I miss England dude. We're not supposed to be here right now, buncha bullshit. Can you believe we got caught up in Brexit AND Covid, what are the chances?
So now we gotta bounce back n forth between EU and UK for that 90 day thing. With the exception of a few EU countries like Croatia. And between me and you, it's just us here, right? I sofa king can't wait to get the hump back over there and hop, hop, hop and hop again.
Badger looks fantastic!
Did I do it!? Did I find the first post in your offgrid boating series!? I kept having little "teases" and then I would scroll further and realize I hadn't quite found the first yet haha.
This is something I am really, really interested in. I plan on moving from this post forwards to check out what you've been up to. I've always been into this type of living but life hasn't really allowed me the opportunity to do it in any real capacity just yet. The closest I've gotten is living out my hatchback for 6 months or possibly spending a couple months on my friends' school bus converted -> veggie oil traveling art bunkhouse.
I'm looking forward to reading through these. Glad you avoided that disaster in Qatar. As of a week ago I was supposed to head from the USA to Chile, where my partner is from, for our marriage; and they decided to close the borders three days prior to my departure. The airlines were unaware and if she had not heard it on the news I would have been put into a "quarantine hotel" there and forced to pay whatever they asked for until I was allowed to either enter or go home. Missed that bullet.
Hope all is well on your boat travels Scuba. Looking forward to catching up on them!
