Bring the Paint Festival - Part 5

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Hail to the Hive!

The actual festival finished a few days ago but such was the scale of it I am still finding art from this festival and also the last one a few yesrs back. This site is at the Sue Towsend Theatre, named after the Leicester author of the Adrian Mole books and the Queen & I. When i came here last week they hadn’t yet started but boy oh boy have they been busy.

I never know what to expect when I go searching for works indicated on the map and the styles of the artist are quite varied and this was more than a pleasant surprise.

Being the first piece of the day it set the bar quite hight for those to follow.

I then ventured to an area on the map I had not yet visited while on my street art hunt over the festival.

This piece was on the side of a pub and I thought if this was my pub I am sure I would have had a ‘ the worlds gone mad’ discussion many a night so this did make me smile.

Even though I personally think that even if we lived in Roman times we’d be saying the same thing. The worlds gone mad! It’s always been mad.

But wait…what do we have here?

Jimmy!

This has got to be one of my favorites so far since doing this and not just because I’m a Jimmy Hendrix fan but because it really pops and the more you stare at it the more you see.

I waited a long while to get these shots without traffic and had more than my fair share of strange looks.

I don’t understand why people would think wanting to look and photograph this piece would be weird as it’s simply superb.

As I’m writing this I am looking at this one more and more and it makes me smile that someone has done this in my hometown. I absolutely love this.

As I looped my way back into the city centre I saw that even the supports to the traffic flyover were adorned with art. The Bring the Paint Festival has really breathed so much life and vibrance into what is usually very drab and dreary.

Again people were looking at me odd as I took pictures and I must admit I did feel like a tourist in my own back yard but I really didn’t give a flying F#£k!

Or a flyover f#£k in this case.

I was definitely having more luck with the map today. Possibly because everything was finished and I was also very familiar with the area as I used to work in this part of town about 22 years ago.

So I was finding more art with ease.

Some of it squeezed into a narrow street like this. And this is some very , very impressive work and would be easy to miss if you weren’t paying attention.

Love the style of this, the colours and everything. It was quite difficult to photograph as the street was narrow and I had to step into the road between spurts of traffic to get it all in from an angle.

Much safer from this angle though, no traffic.

And before I knew it I was back into the city centre. This wall a homage to places people would have gone out to for the night way back in the day which Inthought was a nice nostalgic touch. Well I’m getting old innit!

And this concludes my 5th round up of artwork From the Leicester Bring the Paint Festival. I do hope you’ve enjoyed these beautiful works of street art as much as I have.

I may just be able to rustle up one more……

The building in the background across the road from the monkey dragon one is the former Brewer's Arms, which my great-great-grandma ran. Now sadly derelict.

And than Jimmy, what a cool concept. You do see more and more the longer you look. It sure was worth your time to get it captured without traffic. Thanks for that 😁

The bridge pilers are great to. A complete different style.
