Venasque - In the Heart of Provence

Hello all Art Lovers!
In the small village of Venasque located in the department of Vaucluse, we last visited 2016. With a population of thousands, it is a stylish small village a little high located a few miles southeast of the city carpentras.
The artist Raymond Gallo lives here (lived) for at least part of the year. By chance we saw his alley on the left side of the main street near the small square.
Raymond started painting in the forties and was a student of the artist / sculptor R. Vidier. His themes were still lifes, flowers and the Provencal landscape. He begins to attract attention in the 50's and gets his first award with a still life: "Flowers of Almond Trees".
The big breakthrough came in the 60's in Paris and it was there that he got his own style.
Then he was back in Provence again and now he began to discover the special light that characterizes the Provencal landscape. Paintings he creates during this period are Poppy in Provence (1971), Gardens in St Paul de Vence (1972), Inland in Nice (1973), Iles de Lérins, Cannes (1973).
Villages such as Méthamis, Gordes and Venasque gained extra importance. Venasque is considered by many to be one of the ten most beautiful villages in Provence. His success continued and later he also took up sculpture work. In 1994 he had been painting for fifty years.
A retrospective exhibition is organized in Arles (Chapelle St Anne), with 130 paintings during the winter of 1995.
More than 350 works by Gallo are available among French and foreign collectors.
For several years GALLO has been listed in the International Art Directory.
